The space

A graceful blend of the old and new near the heart of Amherst. Maybe you just want the master suite, but we can accommodate larger families and groups by adding one, or two more private bedrooms. Sleeps up to 7.

A private front porch opens to the entrance foyer and staircase. Upstairs is the master suite/apartment (1 queen bed and 1 twin bed), with a private bathroom and kitchen attached, and lovely farm views. A second private bedroom (1 queen bed, and a massage chair!) is also available upstairs.

Downstairs you will find a finely furnished living room (with a flatscreen TV, streaming movies, and lots of DVDs). If needed, the living room converts to a third bedroom by closing the doors and opening the sofa into a double bed.

Outside, you and your guests also have access to a large fire pit, a gas grill, and picnic tables.

Guest access

Private front-door entry. Plenty of free parking. Access to our farm and trails. Plus all Amherst has to offer (see the guidebook section of this listing).

Interaction with guests

The farm family lives in the separate adjacent home, and is often available to assist with anything you might need. We welcomes as much or as little interaction as you like. Chat about local sustainable livelihoods, tour the farm and CSA, or enjoy your privacy and do your own thing.

The neighborhood

A walkable/bikeable community, that cares about being a community. Stroll west past Emily Dickinson's homestead on your way to dinner in the center of town. Or turn east toward mother nature and hike to the Amethyst Brook Conservation Area, Mt. Orient, and the Robert Frost trail at the back of our farm.

Getting around

Easy access to the Five Colleges. Bus service (Pioneer Valley Transit Authority) is available on the corner (North East Steet and Main Street).

Other things to note

Historic farmhouses have their charms and quirks.
N.B. There is only one bathroom available, and it is accessed through the master suite bedroom. This is perfect for couples, and usually works well for families and good friends too. Unrelated parties can still be very comfortable by using the other two private bedrooms, and keeping the suite open for kitchen and bathroom access.

EXTRAS: You may also book a horse-drawn WAGON/SLEIGH RIDE or HORSEBACK RIDING LESSONS. Ask for details. Drop-in CSA VEGETABLES shares are also available.

Great location near UMass and perfect for our trip to attend our daughter's graduation. Very clean and homey. Enjoyed the chickens and alpacas.

Bernard really welcomed us warmly. He took time to take us over to the alpacas to feed them. We enjoyed the farm fresh free range chicken eggs for breakfast. The rooms were tidy and linens and towels fresh. We also loved how close the farm was to U Mass and Amherst. We were moving our son out of his dorm and the proximity to campus made the logistics of the move a breeze. If you love farm animals and historic farm houses you will be charmed by Bernard's place.

Bernard's farm is very beautiful. A late afternoon walk through the property makes you feel you are deep in the country. Kids would love watching the chickens, horses and alpacas dotted around the property. And yet the house is just minutes from central Amherst and Bernard provides great tips on places to visit, eat and drink. Bernard and his family are warm and welcoming and the unit has everything you need for a comfortable stay. Note that the bathroom and kitchen are both off the larger bedroom (sleeping three) so those in the other bedroom (sleeping two) will need to pass through it. We had a marvelously relaxing weekend and would definitely stay with Bernard again.

This was a lovely place for our family get together. The beds were comfortable, the kitchen was well equipped and the farm setting was conducive to helping this urban family feel like we had a real getaway. Thanks Bernard!

We had a terrific time staying on Bernard's farm. For our family of five it was a relaxing and fund experience, not to mention a perfect location for our tour of Amherst College.
