  • We stayed at Casa Azul for four days.
The house is new and all equipment (shower, sink, etc.) is in perfect shape. Shower was hot and water flow was excellent.
Margarita treated us as if we were her family. She and her family, including the cat and the dog, are very hospitable. The room was immaculately clean. The service was better than at many 5-star hotels. Unlike hotel service, theirs was very personal. They serve YOU rather than some anonymous hotel guest. Breakfast was good and plentiful. There is always a thermos with hot water in the room for making tea or coffee.
The price of the room is very inexpensive considering the service provided by the hosts. We felt that fair price should have been higher.
The view of the lake through the room window or from the private balcony is nice. The location is very quiet, about 20-minute walk from the town center.
Thank you for the wonderful stay, Margarita!

  • LOVED staying at Casa Azul. Margarita was amazingly generous with breakfast and helpful when attempting to arrange travel plans. The house was clean, bright, friendly and comfortable. Absolutely would stay there again and would recommend Casa Azul to anyone looking for a cozy nook while in Calafate.

  • The photos don't lie. The view is spectacular and the house is simply beautiful. This paired with a wonderful host makes it a great place to stay.

Room: Fabulous view, stupendously clean, and plenty of space for two or three people to call home while exploring in Patagonia. The beds in our space were bunked singles, and quite comfortable (however, if you're > 6'4" / 195 cm they will be a bit tight). Lovely little balcony to search for constellations at night.

Location: You earn the view - the location is up on the hill overlooking the bay and its about a 20-25 minute hike into the center of town. This can be a bit after a long day trekking, but you are closer to some great restaurants (Pura Vida is phenomenal) and outside of the deeply touristy areas.

Host: Friendly and helpful. Margarita was great at helping us get the information to plan our trip to El Calafate & Patagonia. She and her family made the stay at Casa Azul a very relaxing and comfortable one.

Breakfast: Wow! Perfect. Great spread. She makes a solid and delicious cup of coffee which is exactly what you need at 6 am before a day long hike.

    Thanks for a great stay.

  • The host Margarita and her husband were VERY friendly and made us feel comfortable and at home!! The room was absolutely clean (and was cleaned every day), we could use the families' kitchen, the bikes and whenever we had a question or needed help they were glad to help us. Nevertheless it is better if you can speak at least a bit of Spanish since they don't understand English that well. We had a wonderful time and can fully recommend the place.
Thanks to Margarita for all the courtesies that made our stay very special!!

  • We stayed at casa azul two nights (beginning and end of our adventures based in the area). I cannot recommend Margarita's home highly enough! It is a lovely spot just beyond town ( 10 min walk to center of El Calafate). It is quiet, safe, cozy, and very clean. There is fast Internet, comfortable sleeping arrangement for four, and big bathroom. The best part is eating breakfast the next morning though. The sleeping arrangements are completely separate but you eat breakfast in Maragirta's kitchen with a view of Lago Argentina and her wonderful company. Don't give it another thought - stay here!!!

  • The room was beautiful just as expected. Margarita and her family are really lovely. The breakfast was the most complete that you can find in Argentina! So glad I stayed there!

  • We had great time by staying at Margarita and Angel' house. Except for it is nice clean house, we had nice chat about the history of Argentina and China. Also we used the bike for free and hang out in the town easily. We recommend to ride the bike to the lakeside and then you will see a lot of swans and flamingos. We love Calafate and enjoy the stay.there. Wish one day we can visit Margarita Angel and their lovely kids dog Oso. Wish you all the best for new year 2014.

  • Martin and Margarita were great hosts - very prompt and hospitable. They went above and beyond to make us feel welcomed and comfortable! Breakfast was served every morning at the time we chose and they even prepared us a sack lunch for our hike on Perito Moreno Glacier! The family is so sweet and overall we had a great stay in Calafate! I would highly recommend staying at Casa Azul!

    Esperamos volver algun dia!!
    :)

  • My girlfriend and I had a wonderful 5 day stay at Casa Azul. Margarita and her family were dream hosts!

The private room and bath were spotless upon arrival, margarita cleaned our room each day of our stay and even provided fresh towels daily. We also had a great selection of coffee and tea in the room, along with chocolates and the occasional evening cocktail provided by our hosts.

Each day we started with a wonderful breakfast of toast, meat, cheese, coffee and cereal, plus almost every excursion in El calafate required attendees to bring their own lunch! We went to the local grocery store but found the pre made sandwiches less than appetizing so we bought everything to make our own and Margarita insisted on preparing them for us each day.

Casa Azul is about a 10 min walk from the El Calafate Main Street and had complementary bikes for guests. The views from the room are as shown, beautiful!

This stay was beyond our expectations and provides tremendous value for money., we highly recommend others stay with the Vargas family on their next trip to Patagonia.

About
Somos la familia Serra-Vargas. Margarita, Angel, Federico y Martina. ¡Sean bienvenidos! We Serra-Vargas family. Margarita, Angel, Federico and Martina. We live in Patagonia, land of wind, almost where South America ends. We chose to settle here in 2002, looking for a different quality of life. Here we build our house, and our children were born here. Our home is up against a large turquoise lake in floating icebergs and flamingos nest in a small but thriving town called El Calafate. El Calafate stands next to the Andes, amid the barren steppe and near a vast field of ice, perhaps the last remaining in the world outside of the polar regions. In our house, the doors remain open to receive friends from around the world. You are welcome!
