The over 700 year old castle Haus Bamenohl is hidden behind old trees in the middle of an idyllic park in the heart of the Sauerland hills. As guest of the Vicounts of Plettenberg, who have been living here since 1433, you can relax for some quiet days alone, spend a romantic weekend for two or take a family outing. Whether it's hiking in the wonderful nature, cycling, sailing, golfing, skiing - Bamenohl is worth a visit.

The space
Highlight of the ~70 sqm apartment on the first floor is the spacious fireplace room with a view of the English landscape garden with its giant trees, some of them 150 years old.
It features a bedroom, a small kitchen (with induction cooktop, microwave/oven, fridge, Nespresso coffee machine with milk frother, toaster, crockery and cutlery for 6 people) and a bathroom with shower and toilet. There is also free Wi-Fi, digital satellite HD television and a storage room for bicycles.
A couch in the living room can be pulled out to a bed (1.40 m wide). On request, we are happy to provide children's chairs and cots and offer use of a washer-dryer.

Where you’ll be

Finnentrop, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany

The Sauerland, also called the 'Land of a Thousand Mountains', is a rural, hilly area spreading across most of the south-eastern part of North Rhine-Westphalia, in parts heavily forested and, apart from the major valleys, sparsely inhabited. It is the largest tourist region in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia and is known in particular for mountain biking & cycling, hiking, water sports and scenic recreation.
Bamenohl, a village in the municipality of Finnentrop, is situated right in the heart of this beautiful region. It is a one-hour drive from the cities of Cologne and Dortmund, and 2 hours from Frankfurt.

Activities include:
- Cycling: Sauerland-Radring and Lenneroute cycling routes pass right by the house.
- Hiking: the famous Sauerland-Höhenflug as well as many local hiking routes are in the vicinity
- Golf-, sailing- and skiing-opportunities are only a 15-minute drive away.
Attractions in the region include Lake Biggessee, Atta-Cave (one of Germany's largest and most spectacular dripstone caves), PanoramaPark and Fort Fun Adventure Land.

Hypermarkets with a bakery and a drugstore are just 200 meters away, as well as a decent Italian restaurant ("In Vino Veritas"). A little further away are more shops, as well as banks.
