Peace and quiet

Guests say this home is in a quiet area.
Relax and enjoy this contemporary casita (2 of 2) in a quiet, private garden (1.25 acres) filled with native plants and walking trails. The 500 sq. ft. one room interior is beautifully furnished, well-appointed and comfortable. Large, covered porches provide the perfect setting to experience the garden and distant mountain views. The property and garden are featured in four books, Gardens of Texas, Marfa Modern, Under Western Skies, and Marfa Garden.
(Registered 2025 City of Marfa #S95)

The space
The two casitas share the gardens with the main house and owners and full time Marfans, Jim and Jim. The casitas match the architecture and style of the main house featured in the book, Marfa Modern, Artistic Interiors of the West Texas High Desert by Helen Thompson. (Sky Island).

The property is certified night sky friendly by McDonald Observatory and is the perfect area of town for seeing stars and the Milky Way.

The house, garden, and native plantings are featured in several other recent books:

Gardens of Texas, Visions of Resilience from the Lone Star State, Published by Timber Press in 2025 (Penick, Braun) 'Grounded in Grassland'

Marfa Garden, A Field Guide to Plants of the Chihuahuan Desert, published by Trinity University Press in 2024 and authored by Jim and Jim with two Marfa friends.

Under Western Skies, Visionary Gardens from the Rockies to the Pacific Coast, Published by Timber Press in 2021 (Atkinson, Jewell).

The gardens and property were also featured in the PBS series, GardenFit, Season 1, Episode 112, "The Wild Wild West". Tour the garden and surroundings in the 30-minute episode on PBS.

Guest access
Feel free to stroll through the gardens surrounding the guesthouses. And if you are interested in native plants of the Chihuahuan Desert, please feel free to ask your hosts for a tour.

Other things to note
The kitchenette includes a portable induction cooktop, microwave, convection toaster oven, refrigerator, pots/pans, and cooking utensils. Many guests prepare meals in the casitas.

We would be happy to share information about the construction process and the recycled materials used to build these cost-effective and energy-efficient structures.
