Charming cottage on the Kennebec River on the outskirts of historic and beautiful Bath, Maine. Close to great shops, restaurants, and beaches, and just a 20-minute drive from Bowdoin College. Adjacent to a boat launch, and a short walk from the Bath Marine Museum and a scenic dog park.

The space
This beautifully preserved 1890's house is situated on the edge of the Kennebec River. It is the larger of two properties on a gorgeous piece of land on the outskirts of Bath. (The other property, "the nest," is rented on Airbnb separately). Guests can sit on the wrap-around deck and watch the evening fall over the marshes. The house has a large fully equipped open-plan kitchen, a sun room with windows on two sides, and a dining room. There are two bedrooms with queen beds, one bedroom with two single beds, and a small bedroom with a single bed, and two bathrooms. There are two dedicated private parking spaces.

Location

Bath, Maine, United States

Bath is a quaint town on the Kennebec river, recently voted one of the best small towns to live in America. Front Street and Maine Street have antique shops, boutique clothing stores, (email hidden) store and Cafe Creme, a lovely coffee shop. Stroll around historic downtown to see the architecture, or walk along the riverside park and stop in at the Farmer's market. If you enjoy nature and hiking, Popham Beach, Sewall Pond, Morse Mountain bird reserve and Josephine Newman Sanctuary are each about 15 minute drive. Boaters can take tours down the Kennebec (or even to Seguin Lighthouse) through the River Run tours, or the Maine Marine Museum. This museum also has exhibits for all ages, highlighting the history of the town that once was famous for building clipper ships, including a boat builders area and a pirate ship. Shoppers will love that Bath is 20 minutes drive from Freeport Outlet town and LL Bean Flag ship store. Bath is also 15 minute drive from the quaint town of Wiscasset, which is fast becoming Maine's antique-shop capital, and a 15 minute drive from Brunswick, for parents visiting Bowdoin.

Bath is famous for its Heritage Days July 4th weekend with a parade, a local fair and a fireworks display over the river.

And this is Mary. We are your hosts. We’ve been together for seven long bumpy happy years trying to cobble a life together across three distant states with five children between us. We tripped sideways into AirBnB in 2014. We love it and want to make it our mainstay, and that’s where you come in. Why Maine, you ask? My maternal family has a long storied past here. They were shipbuilders and politicians, feisty matriarchs and male ne'er-do-wells, and my mother left my sisters and I a handful of properties that we now manage. We’re not quitting our day jobs yet, but we are trying our to live our best lives now. I am a former journalist and writer who has lived and worked all over the world. Mary is a Dharma yogi and education activist who loves to cook vegan food. We put a lot of love into our houses. We have a great local cleaning crew who keeps keeps them sparkling clean and a colorful cast of characters who mow, drill, and generally keep the show on the road. We know the area really really well and love to share this knowledge with our guests. We hope you enjoy our houses as much as we do.
