About this listing
Welcome to one of Madeline Island's most beautiful properties.
Our home is located on over 900' of private lakeshore (18 acres) surrounded by beautiful white pine, maple and birch forest. The 3000 square foot home was built in 2003 from a 200 year old Vermont hay barn we had disassembled, transported and painstakingly reassembled into a luxury vacation home. The hand hewn beams inside are up to 20" in diameter and the walls are original barn board.
You will feel warm and comfortable from the moment you step inside to find a gourmet kitchen with Viking range and all of the amenities needed to relax and or entertain in grand style. Sit on the deck with family or friends and watch the sun set over the islands.
A perfect retreat for a couple or a larger group looking to experience peace and quiet on Madeline Island. Over the past seven years this home has been featured in Martha Stewart Weddings, the Discovery Channel and will be featured in an upcoming book of Madeline Island homes. It is truly a work of art that needs to be seen to be fully appreciated.
We are 7 miles from the town of LaPointe where you'll find restaurants, bars, ice cream and souvenir shopping. There are tennis courts available as well as a Robert Trent Jones-designed golf course. My classmates and I had a fantastic stay at the barn...we didn't want to come home! There were 12 of us and we were all extremely comfortable. The house was extremely well equipped and no detail seemed to small! We're planning on making this trip a yearly tradition.
We had an amazing stay at the Barn. Sanders and Sasha have such a special spot on Lake Superior with amazing views of the neighboring islands and sunsets. Great for morning coffee and sunset toasts.
Our week stay was split into some time with our family and some time just as a couple. With our family we spend a lot of time on the sunny pier and porch, and cooked some great meals together, all commenting on how we wished we had kitchens like this at home. As a couple we loved the indoor fireplace, the starry nights and the overall calm of the property.
Many memories were made and many pictures were taken; we can't wait to go back!
The barn at Madeline Island was the absolute perfect setting for our long girls' weekend away from the city.
We were Sanders and Tasha's first non-family guests, and they took special care to make sure we had everything we needed. When we arrived, the beds were freshly made, the heat was cranked and the fire place was stocked for the weekend.
The house is beautiful- a perfect mix of luxury and rustic North Woods. The view from the main room was breathtaking, and though we came in the winter, we dreamed about BBQs out on the huge deck overlooking Lake Superior.
We loved using the fully decked-out gourmet kitchen at the house and spent most of our time hanging out in there. The runner-up on our "Favorite Feature" list was the giant bathtub in the main bathroom; at least two blissful bubble baths were taken during our time away.
Tasha and Sanders were incredibly thoughtful hosts and made sure we had accurate directions to the cabin, a contact list of people on the island, and the name and number of their housekeeper in case we needed anything during our stay.
Perhaps the biggest testament to the great time we had at the barn is the fact that every single girl left already planning her trip back this summer :)
