The Space

A delightful haven for you and a loved one (or overflow for holiday guests), this island-flavored artists' nook is a perfect hideaway. Sink into the generous clawfoot tub (shower too), light the candles and sip a glass of wine. Cook a romantic alfresco meal in the kitchen/dining room. The oversized log bed (queen) begs to be stretched out in with a good book. This (email hidden) for ultimate relaxation. We are a 100% Smoke-free property as well. All the fun and ease of living in beautiful downtown Ojai, sans responsibilities!

Steps from the Farmers Market, all downtown shops and Italian fine or casual dining, Chinese, sushi, Thai, Mexican, sandwiches, old and new-style American food, Rainbow Bridge (healthy groceries and ready-made food if you don't feel like using the kitchen), Close to several local watering holes, (The Village Jester, tequila bar, Barrel 33 and Casa Barrancas' tasting room)....you name it, and you can get to it in a two-minute walk.

Quiet street, family neighborhood, close to local hiking trails, tennis courts (home to the famous 100+ year old "The Ojai" tennis tournament, or just bring your racquets and have fun) Golfer? Hop on the Ojai Trolley for $0.50! We are minutes from Soule Park. Yoga enthusiasts will delight in making the one-minute walk to the famous Lulu Bandhas' studio, just down the street.

Easy street parking, sunny small fenced yard. There is one outside cat that does not go into your space on the property, and one very sweet dog that is in her own section of the yard separated from the studio.

Need something special? Please let us know in advance and we will try and help you. See something you like? Ask, it may be for sale!

Guest Access

Our guests are blessed to be in the middle of downtown Ojai - Here are a few highlights: Check out "A Taste Of Ojai" on Vimeo

Interaction with Guests

We see our guests from time to time if we are home, so our interaction is basically on the guests' terms :)

The Neighborhood

We are in the middle of EVERYTHING! We are literally the middle of all the downtown maps (sometimes I have to open them extra-wide to find our street) and we have very friendly neighbors. If you bring your friendly, well-behaved, cat-friendly dog, you will find that you can take him/her just about anywhere with you. DOG OWNERS MAY NOT INSTANT BOOK, please message me with your details and dates so we can open a chat.

Getting around

The Ojai Trolley ($1) has two stops within a block from the house and the Gold Coast Vista bus ($1.75 for adults) stops two blocks away, in case you would like to go to/from Ventura or the train station there.

Other Things to Note

Enjoy yourselves! Relax, park the car and leave it there for your whole stay! Let us know if you have any questions!

  • Maya was extremely organized and timely! She was away for the weekend, but made sure to leave enough notes and very clear directions so we had no questions. The space is as gorgeous and unique as the pictures! Although Ojai was 97 degrees and VERY uncomfortable, we were able to cool down in our air conditioned space and sit under the shade of the "tiki" bar. We had so much privacy and really felt away from it all--- at the same time it was a 2 minute walk to downtown! The studio has a full kitchen, so we were able to make our own coffee in the morning and hang out. We also brought leftovers back to have a private picnic. If you don't feel like cooking, stores and restaurants are a skip away! This is a great spot for a romantic getaway. I am now inspired to redo my house in order to emulate Maya's zen studio! We would totally recommend the space.

  • Rose and I had a mid-week girls getaway in Ojai, and we had the fortune of staying at Maya and Robert's unique, artfully decorated cottage. The cottage is only a few blocks away from town, so we could easily walk to the restaurants, boutiques and thrift stores! Recommendations - Knead Baking Company for delicious gluten treats, Meditation Mount for gorgeous views of the valley, and the Ojai Inn and Spa for a day of indulgent spa treatments and relaxation.
Maya communicated promptly to all of our multiple questions and provided excellent tips and recommendations for our stay. We would come back to Ojai in a heartbeat, and we'd definitely book with Maya and Robert again!

  • This was the perfect escape for us! My husband an I stayed two nights in June for his birthday and we couldn't be more pleased. Maya was lovely. She came and greeted us and made us feel welcome. We didn't have much interaction with her as I arrived not feeling well so we were either out and about or asleep. The room was exactly like the photos, the location of the house couldn't be more prime and the tranquility and privacy were both appreciated. I highly recommend staying here!

  • This guest space is the perfect place to relax and disconnect. We rested more in the two nights we spent here than we had all week! Maya and Robert were very welcoming, helpful, and quick to coordinate plans for us. A very pleasant weekend, overall!

    Many thanks,

  • Pretty much everything about this backyard oasis is perfect. This was me and my wife's first trip to Ojai, and we were celebrating our 2nd anniversary. Maya and Robert were super friendly and eager to tell us all about the best spots of Ojai, like the lavender ice cream from Ojai Ice Cream...killer! The location is central with local shops just steps away, the bike trails are minutes away, and if you don't want to leave then you've got everything, including an outdoor kitchen (amazing!) there for you to use. Bed was comfy, bath was clean, and it was nice and quiet. They even had a futon set up outside that we drank some choice beers on and admired the starry sky.

Thanks Maya and Robert! We'll be back!

  • This was the second time I have stayed in Ojai with Maya & Robert. This time, I was accompanied by my teen-age granddaughter, who decided very late to attend the Ojai festival with me. Maya was MORE than accommodating for this sudden addition, and provided a comfortable bed for her. As always, Ojai was a fine place to visit, especially with such pleasant company. The convenience and comfort gave us the feeling we should try to come back, and maybe spend more time.

  • Loved this place! Super close to downtown Ojai, you can pretty much walk to everything. Parking was never a problem, and then if you're there on Sunday for the farmer's market, don't move your car from by the house, cuz you'll already have prime parking to wander down Lion St and check it out! Maya and Robert were both very kind and helpful with suggestions, and not intrusive at all--all in all we had a really wonderful time, and would love to come back and rent from them again, maybe even for longer! Definitely give them 2 thumbs up and a big recommendation to prospective renters. :)

  • Maya and Robert have a beautiful home that we felt privileged to get to share. Their cottage was so carefully designed and decorated that we truly felt like it was an experience in itself in Ojai. And the location was central to the quaint and cute highlights of downtown Ojai, from the farmer's market to the row of shops and restaurants that define it's main street. We're appreciative for the wonderful time that we had at their place!

  • Had a lovely stay in Ojai at Maya and Robert's place. A great spot with tons of character! So glad we chose to stay here instead of a hotel. Maya and Robert are great hosts- we spent a couple hours just sitting and chatting with them :-)

  • Had a wonderful stay in this cute cottage in Ojai. It's at a wonderful location, walking distance to tons of restaurants, cafes, and shops. The place was lovely, cozy, and delightful. I've never used an outdoor kitchen before, but it was incredibly refreshing to cook outside and eat in the garden/patio area. Highly recommend this place for a nice relaxing weekend getaway in Ojai.

    Response from Maya:

Hi Gabby - those were actually the front houses' kid (and her little buddy) - I'm so sorry, I told them a couple times, HEY! you have to stay in your part of the yard, but they are literally JUST moving in .....and as curious as every 6 year old is, apparently :) You can always shoo 'em away, sorry they were peepin', I'll have a word with mum:)

I'm a wedding planner/floral designer from the last small beach town in Southern California. My husband Robert is an amazing artist (he built the beds you'll be sleeping in and did most of the artwork you will find on the property) designer and sculptor, and he is a highly skilled massage/bodywork therapist with clients ranging from professional athletes to those in wheelchairs - and everyone in between! Please let us know if you would like to book a massage with him. We love: Traveling (Hawaii is a big one, as we have family there, but we have been to Japan, Sweden, Denmark, Australia, England, Thailand, Cambodia, Costa Rica ...to name a few) the beach, watersports, volleyball, art, music, (good) design, Pixar movies, gardening (well, ONE of us does...I am much better at working with cut flowers..). We love traveling in the States as well, our big favorites are exploring our home California coast, San Francisco, Hawaii, Yosemite, Aspen Valley in Colorado, and the beaches anywhere we can find them. Things I can't live without: English Tea, the latest book I'm reading, Thai or Indian (read: SPICY!) food, tempranillo, viognier, champagne, dark chocolate, my husband, Radiohead, our kitty Smalls/Bittle/Beale (she's not picky) my iPhone. Not in that order. We spend quite a bit of time working on our 1927 California cottage house....Most recently, we added beautiful stone to our front porch and stairs. It gets nicer all the time here, so come on back, something is sure to be different! Please ask if you like something, it may be available for purchase! As hosts, we love to give local recommendations, tips and things to do, but are also mindful of your vacation needs, which may simply be for some much-needed down time.
