The House "Gello" in the Tuscan hills, is located in an area rich of history and natural beauty. Gello is a certified organic farm with 43 hectares of primary forest and olive groves.
The house was originally a watchtower overlooking the Trove valley and the village of Civitella in Val di Chiana located on the opposite hill. Restoration of the building was completed using only original materials, with respect considering that Gello dates back at least 600 years.
The house has four bedrooms, three upstairs (one with private bath, and two that share a bathroom) and a single with private bathroom on the ground floor.
Also on the ground floor are the kitchen, dining area, and living room with a large wood burnig fireplace.
The kitchen is fully equipped including a dishwasher.
There is a telephone, and wireless internet.
Surrounding the home is a beautiful garden with a pergola under which you can dine with the scents of herbs.
A salt wather infinity pool frames the view west.
Heating is extra according to consumption
We loved this Italian villa. Everything was as advertised. Our hosts were present on arrival, available during the week, and very accommodating on check out. It was perfect for us. It is off the beaten path just enough to find privacy and quiet. Yet it is a great starting point from which to explore all of Tuscany easily by car. It has all the amenities to live comfortably. The pool is beautiful and refreshing. The villa has tremendous charm and a great story. We loved it.
We had a beautiful stay in Civitella, our hosts Luciana and John were very helpful.
I spendt almost two weeks during Easter with my family of 5 in Luciana and Johns house, beautifully situated on the brink of a hill with a view towards west, appr. 20 min drive from Arezzo and 20 min walk from Civitella in Val de Chiana (a beautiful old village with two nice restaurants and a small grocery store)
The house, partly as old as 600 years, is charming and was delicately and tastefully modernized in the end of the 90's.
The reason for not giving a top rating was its size (the living room did not match the 4 bedrooms and 7 beds), that the pool was located by itself 50 m from the house (the pictures gives a different impression) and a terribly expensive heating (I spend 385 EUR on gas). The house may be more suitable when it is warm outside and one can enjoy the beautiful scenery by utilizing one of the many outside seating areas.
Luciana and John, who lives only a few minutes away, was warm, welcoming and service minded and are highly recommended as hosts.
Perfect!!!! The house is beautiful. The grounds are gorgeous. The view is magnificent. Luciana and her husband John are wonderful hosts. They allow you your privacy but are always available to help you if needed.
This is an idyllic and private dwelling with a beautiful pool and wonderful aromas from the flowers and herbs. If you want to be a "tuscan", this is the place to go!
