Quiet country retreat on a scenic gravel road by Frontenac State Park & Lake Pepin. Cozy lower-level guest suite—easy drive to Red Wing/Lake City, 45 min to Rochester. Hike, birdwatch, snow trails & lake days—bring your water toys!
The space
Enter through your private, code-locked entrance and settle into your own cozy lower-level suite. You’ll have a full kitchen for meals at home, plus welcome basics—coffee & tea, honey from my own hives, sugar, creamer, oil, and salt & pepper.
After a day of exploring, unwind in the massage chair beside the gas fireplace, or sink into a long soak in the tub. Fresh linens are ready so you can truly rest—whether you spent the day adventuring or simply relaxing on the property.
Step outside and enjoy 5 peaceful acres, with Frontenac State Park adjoining the property for easy trail access. Depending on the season, you can hike through brilliant fall colors, hunt for morels or fiddleheads, or snowshoe in winter. When evening comes, gather around the fire pit and watch the stars.
If you want to explore town, you’re a quick drive to nearby eateries and local bars—many with live weekend music. I’m happy to share my favorite spots for food, trails, and quiet places to recharge.

After you turn onto the 2-mile gravel road, continue straight to our driveway entrance. Pull in, make a quick U-turn, and park by the sign labeled “Guest Parking.” This space is just past the sidewalk that leads to the lower-level/private suite entrance.
Please note: there is a second unit on the property called Veterans Retreat. It was built with Veterans and guests with disabilities in mind. Other guests may occupy it during your stay. It is dog-friendly and available for rent. I’m proud to offer a discounted rate for Veterans—please be prepared to show a VA card or other qualifying ID to receive the discount.
Kayaks + life jackets are also available to rent. A signed waiver is required before taking any kayaks off the property. Message me for current availability, pricing, and trailer rental details.

Our home is surrounded by Frontenac State Park which is a birdwatcher's paradise. It's one of the best spots in the country to view birds migrating in the spring and fall. More than 260 species of birds have been recorded here.
There is an abundance of things to see and do. Hiking, Biking, Golfing, Snowmobiling, Antiquing, Wine Tours, Kayaking, Boating, Fishing, Sailing Packages, Art Classes, Seasonal Berry Picking, and Morel Mushroom Hunting, foraging for fiddleheads, the ideas are endless! Lake City also has Paddleboard rentals, Parasailing as well as sailing lessons available!
Need a donut or pastry fix? Check out Hanisch Bakery in Red Wing. Have lunch at Mandy's Coffee Shop or Kelly's Tap House Bar and Grill, which has 61 craft brews, or an Ultimate Bloody Mary, which is a meal on its own!
Looking for a delicious steak dinner? Try Bayside Tap and Steakhouse, ask for Glen or Christy and tell them Sven sent you and you are staying at our Airbnb and get a discount!!
Dine at one of the three restaurants at the St James Hotel or drive south to Lake City and dine at The Lake House on Pepin, Port 104, or one of the smaller eateries around town.
Head even farther south and check out Reads Landing Brewing Company or continue the drive south to Wabasha and cross over the bridge to Wisconsin for a great relaxing lunch at Nelsons Cheese Factory. Try the Margherita pizza, it's our favorite! If there is a line out the door, it means it's warm out and everyone wants one of their delicious ice cream cones. Be sure to stand in line, it's worth it. Pick up some of their meat, cheese, pasta, and wine and make yourself a meal back at the house or head out for a picnic. Simply ask and they will slice a baguette for you and grab you some plasticware. Need some fresh herbs for your meal? We have some in the garden (seasonal) just ask and we will help you find them!
While in Wabasha you should also visit the National Eagle Center and learn about the eagles and the local area. Or grab lunch at the Slippery's Bar & Grill made famous from the movie, Grumpy Old Men. Need more ideas for an evening out just ask or look through our collection of brochures.
