Larry was not the most welcoming and was short in messages, referring me to the house manual instead of engaging in conversation about our upcoming stay.
The apartment was really lovely architecturally and the neighborhood was great. Just a few blocks away from shops and restaurants in the Haight.
However, arriving late at night, my boyfriend and I were spooked by the overwhelming number of deceased animals (i.e. taxidermy) in this home, as well as the accompanying kill shots of the hunter with his prey. A few taxidermy pieces (as mentioned in the description) would be no big deal - a little quirky or nostalgic, perhaps. But this apartment contained a menagerie of dead creatures. The photos show a bulls head and a skull, but in fact we counted more than 20 creatures - loads of skulls, bobcat, turtle's head, bears, a wolf, tarantulas, oh my!
The bathroom was luxurious and the bed SO comfortable! These small luxuries made up for the somewhat creepy vibe and the smell of an old woman's fur closet. We made the best of our stay and enjoyed the location and comfortable bed, though the view of the bookshelf next to the bed with titles about Hitler and Stalin as well as pro-gun manifestos were not the most relaxing views to wake up to.
I'm sure many people have enjoyed the unique decor of Larry's place but it was a little too extreme for us to return. You probably will not want to stay here if you are a vegetarian or vegan, or sensitive to musky smells.
Amazing!!! Absolutely incredible place. We enjoyed the hot tub on cool summer nights and the jacuzzi tub in the morning, which was just so relaxing. The house is beautifully decorated and is very welcoming. The area is so beautiful and is a great place to take long walks and eat at good restaurants.
Very good location, and easy host to work with. Quite a few hunting trophies give it a hunting lodge feel.
The description of this flat was completely accurate. It is stylish, comfortable, and surprisingly quiet. You do need to be comfortable with taxidermy as it is everywhere: on the walls, underfoot, and on the couch. We would definitely stay there again. The neighborhood is fantastic. There are great neighborhood restaurants, the Magnolia Brewery is within walking distance, and you are right next to the park. There is also a laundry service and coin op machines at the corner.
Thanks for a great stay! Your flat is wonderful, clean and very comfortable. Love the neighborhood. Plenty of amenities and transportation close by. Hope we can come stay again in the future!
Staying at Lawrence's elegant Victorian was indeed a treat! Fabulous decor, beautiful home and backyard in a very happening neighborhood! Everything we could have asked for/anticipated had been attended to - towels, kitchen needs, and the most comfy bed. Sitting on the bench out back (or in the jacuzzi!) surrounded by trees, listening to the birds was magical in the sea of urbanity that was so near. Wonderful, reasonably priced restaurants within walking distance. Just walking in this neighborhood gives you the greatest examples of SF architecture. We enjoyed our stay and will definitely book with Lawrence again!
A very slick operation with information left out for you and a good position to explore the city. The apartment is big and great just to chill in – the deck is great for getting some sun if the weather is nice and the bed is very comfortable. As other reviewers say, make sure you're okay with taxidermy and hunting!
