About this listing
Ballard 1 bedroom plus loft and AWESOME lovingly repurposed 25' Airstream trailer. A queen in the trailer, a king in the loft, queen in the main bedroom, and a queen sofa bed - only bath is off the main floor bedroom.
Just 6 blocks from Market street, you’ll be a perfect quiet distance from all Market street and old Ballard has to offer. 2 blocks from 15th Ave and a D-line RapidRide stop so it’s very accessible to bus-lines as well as a quick drive into downtown and blocks from all of the restaurants, nightlife and shops Ballard has to offer. Just 20 - 35 minutes to the airport by car. Large equipped kitchen with washer and dryer. Apartment is approx 500 sq feet on the first level with another 200 square feet in the loft area. Then another 200 plus square feet in the Airstream in the back yard. The large windows provide great light and give the unit a very open feel. Vented skylights keep the loft and entire space extremely comfortable during the summer. 6 can sleep here utilizing the loft but it would be best if everyone is family or well acquainted as the only bathroom is off the lower bedroom. I use high quality linens and bedding is triple sheeted or duvet covers used and laundered after every guest. There is only the loft with carpets but beds or constantly inspected to insure there are not unwanted guests (bedbugs) left behind. Kid & pet friendly but the loft does not have a railing around it so young children would need to be watched closely. I say sleeps 6 but there is a sectional sofa and room for sleeping bags if you are traveling with children. Email and let me know your request. There is just one bathroom and not a huge amount of communal space so I don't ever want to misrepresent the property and want to make sure people understand the layout.
Wireless internet reaches all throughout house and airstream. Satellite television in the living area, main floor bedroom and Loft. There is a key ring by the back door that has the back door and trailer key on it. The new paint on the back door seems to make it stick a bit so currently it's easier to just use the deadbolt on the back door.
Interaction with Guests
I am on the property often working in the yard or cleaning. If I am not there you will have a key code and there is a small book with notes about the house, neighborhood and local activities. I am typically always available via phone, text or email if you have any questions, concerns or needs. I will typically use the last four digits of the phone number listed on your airbnb profile as your entry code. Monthly rental includes weekly maid service.
Ballard is an old Norwegian fishing village 6 miles north of Downtown. Just a short walk away is Market street and old Ballard with it's great Sunday Farmers Market and all it's shops, restaurants and nightlife. The Locks and Dam, fish ladder, Norwegian Heritage Center as well as Golden Gardens Beach access is just a short walk away.
On 24th Avenue and 58th street is Scooter's probably the best burger stand you will ever eat at. Double Cheese burger with grilled onions and fried mushrooms is my go to!
Near market and 20th Ave is a great dive bar Golden City which also happens to be a great place for Chinese and better yet THEY DELIVER!
There is a dedicated parking spot in the back off the alley and it is 2 blocks from 15th Ave and a D-line RapidRide stop taking you right to the University or downtown.
Other Things to Note
This is an old home and sound travels easily. I want your stay to be pleasant and I realize you may be on holiday but I would ask that you just be respectful of the downstairs folks. Typically it seems the most transference of sound comes in the stairwell and in the bathroom. I put a door at the top of the stairs to try and limit the noise pollution a little bit and then when in the bathroom you may want to not have that deep, cathartic, private conversation with a loved one as it will not be that private :) The rest of the house is fine but for some reason those areas just seem to be amplified!
Smoking on the deck only please. Backyard is fenced so pets are permitted upon approval so please email or call to discuss your requirements.
Facing the home to the left are two white gates. This side of the house is dedicated to the airstream retreat. If you have a pet the front gate latches pretty tight - the back white gate not as much - so please make sure your fur baby isn't small enough to slip under the gate or through the pickets if you utilize the dog door or let them out on their own.
Our host definitely made us feel welcome, with a nice personalized note, yummy snacks, helpful orientation to the neighborhood, restaurants and the house, etc. House was just as advertised. Beds were comfortable. Everything worked. Kitchen was nice (thanks for the coffee!). No complaints whatsoever.
Chris was fantastic in accommodating our last-minute and quick overnight request. He was incredibly communicative and made himself available to answer any questions we had. Chris went above and beyond to provide recommendations, clear instructions, and a warm and welcoming environment for my family. We loved the location, listing, and overall experience at the Bunkhouse and will definitely keep it on our radar for return visits to Seattle!!
Great place in great neighborhood, with tons of info about both the house and the area provided by host. Shower is AMAZING. Oh, and free waters, sodas and a Toblerone bar. This place was awesome.
Chris is a very thoughtful host . He leaves some beverage and snacks for us . The house is cozy and lovely . We will be back soon .
Chris was a superb host. The rental was spotless and very comfortable. We would go back in a heartbeat!
Thank you Sir.
Great location! We walked everywhere in Ballard. Bedding was clean and pillows were great. Highly reccomend Staple and Fancy for dinner. I would definetly stay here again!
The Airstream Retreat, a great place to securely store bikes, was perfect for our Friday night stay prior to departing early Saturday morning as we participated in the 200 mile STP bike ride to Portland. The location provided an excellent selection of restaurants to choose from for dinner (highly recommend the Italian restaurant, Volterra) and also made for a short ride along the Burke-Gilman bike trail to the start line at the University of Washington. Chris was a very gracious host making sure we had a place to park our Suburban for the night. He also left us a very nice welcome card and a bowl for of snacks and goodies. The Airstream is also pet friendly! Staying at Chris' place was a breeze.

About the Host, Chris
A lab director, a stay at home dad, two teenagers and a cocker spaniel living the suburban dream! We love to entertain and originally started hosting with Airbnb because we had a medical rep that would call on my partner and we preferred he stayed with us when in town. This typically meant a hotel room somewhere would have been paid for and sat empty….We set up an account so we could be his hotel. We enjoyed Airbnb so much that we kept the listing up to meet others. We now host at our Ballard Duplex as well as a town home in Kirkland. We specialize in intern stays in the summer and are investigating boarding house concepts.
