Beautiful and spacious chalet with mountain views in Stöten, Sälen -- the premier ski-resort of Sälen. Ski-in/ski-out -- ca 300 m from the Kronoparken transport lift. Tasteful and fully equipped interior (ca 70 sqm + loft). Sauna and soap-stone fireplace. Hosts 6 -8 persons.

Cross-country skiing right outside the door and hiking trails nearby.

The timber-house was built in 2003 and is very well kept, throughout. Adjacent to the house is a ski-storage/-preparation house. Free parking (3 cars).

The space
The kitchen is fully and nicely equipped: cooker and hot-air stove (Zanussi), fridge and freezer, dishwasher, microwave, coffee machine, electric tea kettle, toaster and electric egg beater.

You may use any available groceries, e.g., salt and pepper. If you use our soap and paper, you replace it before leaving.

The main bathroom has a shower, adjacent (electric) sauna, washing machine and drying cabinet.

For your convenience, there is wifi (Tele2, 100GB per month is included), multicharger for four devices (incl. 2 wires suiting iPhone/iPad and one each for old/new Android devices), cabel-TV with basic channels (main room TV-set), Apple TV (loft-room TV-set), CD-/radio-player, bluetooth-speaker, a casket full of board-games (like Yatzy, playing cards, Tantrix, Sätt sprätt på en miljon, När och fjärran, Finans) and even a classical guitar.

Pillows and duvets available for 8 persons. However, sheets and towels need to be brought.

Child seater / high chair (infants) and a small stool for small children (bathroom use) as well as the pillows and duvets for the futon sofa bed are available in the left-hand-side room beside the main entrance and under the loft-room beds, respectively.

The skiing storage-/preparation house holds a bench for ski preparation and appropriate equipment and a Weber grill (pls. clean after using).

Firewood is free to use if available, but at times run out--however, the main mini-supermarket in Stöten centre sells suitable firewood. Our firewood for use is behind the ski-prep house (within reasonable limits) for comfort and extra heating from the soap-stone stove, while not necessary because of the central and underfloor heating. Please note that the stove can get very hot, so only use a 2-3 logs at a time. It will keep its heat for several hours. (Pls do not use wood from the other storage in front of the house, it is not dry enough.) Fireplace tools to be used for, e.g., cleaning the stove are available at the right-hand side of the ski-prep house. (The tool set is kept there to avoid children from hurting themselves or the interior of the chalet with the sharp and dirty parts of the tools.)

Guest access
Both the chalet and the ski-storage/-preparation houses are at your disposal. (However, the left- and right-hand side attic areas beside the loft is private storage.)

Other things to note
Day of arrival/departure: SATURDAY.

Self-check-in available, via separate instructions. Check-in from 2 pm.

Outside lights turn on/off automatically, for convenience.

The house has central heating (set to maintain 21 degrees Celsius) and underfloor heating in several areas. (Please do not alter these settings, thanks.)

You clean the houses after your stay. This includes also to do the dishes, put the sofa bed together again, make all the beds including bedspreads and pillows, remove ashes and garbage (incl bottles and foodstuff), and make sure the premises and the ski-storage house look nice.

You are responsible for clearing the parking place and the two entrances to the chalet and the one to the ski-storage house of snow. You may use the shovels in and outside the ski-storing house as well as the broom by the main entrance. (Plowing of the road to the house is of course arranged for.)

Concerning ski rentals, we usually rent skis at Kaiser, located right at the centre of Stöten. If you want cheaper options, there are several but then quite some distance away. E g, if you come from the south of Sweden, you pass by Skidhuset, but that's perhaps 50 km or more away from Stöten and on slow roads. If you have a baby/small child, you may consider to rent a proper mountain sledge for going cross-country with the baby/child behind in the cosy sledge. That's pretty cool and we've done it with both our kids when they were really small. Usually Kaiser have such sleighs for rental.

Getting here, is easy by car or by flight to the new Scandinavian Mountains Airport (opening date 22 December 2019), with flights from several national and international airports.

Where you’ll be

Malung, Dalarnas län, Sweden

Stöten is the premier ski-resort in Sälen, while still being more pristine and less crowded than other parts of Sälen. It was voted the ski-resort of the year in Sweden in 2019 and recently, in 2021, it was voted as both the best ski-resort and the best ski-resort for families by Sweden's largest ski-website Freeride. Stöten has 48 slopes, great lifts and the highest peak of Sälen, providing awesome views of the surrounding mountains in Norway and Sweden. Skiers at all levels and ages can find their slopes and challenges. Younger kids love “Grandma’s downhill race” – a 3,060 meter long slope – and teenagers love “Älvan” (one of the 5 best pists in Sweden). Stöten also has some 45 kilometres of cross-country trails right. The resort is really family friendly.

In the Stöten centre, close-by, you have everything you would expect from a complete ski resort, including restaurants, pool and spa, hotel, ski-shop, etcetera (see trippel-w + stoten.se). You can also rent snowmobile (trippel-w + fjallskoter.se) and take ski lessons. Grocery shopping is preferably done in Tempo Stöten (winter-time only) or else in ICA in Rörbäcksnäs village. Or you can order home-delivery, e.g., from ICA Lindvallen in Sälen, directly to the fridge.

Stöten has a lot to offer also in the summer! The Swedish King’s Trail actually passes right nearby as it stretches from southern part of Sälen to the most northern part of Sweden. There are ample opportunities to go hiking on this and other trails. The mountain views from the Östra granfjället – the highest peak in the whole Sälen mountains (948 meters) – is stunning! Wild-life surrounds the chalet, so elks are basically your neighbours. When you get tired of hiking, you can go fishing (trippel-w + limafiske.se and then fiskeinformation-20551683) or canoeing in Görälven (river close by) or Flersjön or down-hill or cross-country cycling in the nearby areas of Stöten, Rörbäcksnäs, Lindvallen or Norwegian Trysil. There are great areas for picking cloudberries, blueberries and lingonberries nearby. Swimming is possible both in the beautiful lakes Närsjön or Flersjön (about 15 mins drive away) or at Rörbäcksnäs (25 mins drive). If you have time, you may also go to, for example, Njupeskär – Sweden’s highest water fall – a great walk and experience. Njupeskär is located in the Fulufjället national park. Europe's largest predator park -- Orsa rovdjurspark -- is also perfect for a whole day-trip, watching, e.g., snow leopard, brown bear, wolf and lynx (trippel-w + orsarovdjurspark.se). An aquarium with nordic fishes may also be of interest (trippel-w + salenakvariet.se).

There is a new golf course to be opened very close to the chalet. Already there is one in Sälen (trippel-w + salenfjallensgk.se).

Bikes can be rented, e.g., in Lindvallen, Sälen (trippel-w + skistar.com); canoes, e.g. at Stöten camping (trippel-w + stoten-camping.se) or Sälen village.

If you ever want to explore new skiing or hiking/cycling areas, the Norwegian Trysil and the other Swedish Sälen resorts are not far off. (Stöten is a perfect hub for day-trips there. However, the ski-pass of Stöten is not applicable in Trysil/Sälen, so you need a day-card for that occasion.)

I am a family father and professional economist, who loves playing and listening to music as well as outdoor activities with my family - two boys (9 and 12 yrs old) and my wife (pediatrician). My wife and I have been fortunate enough to travel quite some, and I have lived in numerous places in Europe and America. We know what we expect from stays at hotels and AirBnB to feel at home away from home, experiencing the new setting. We hope this shines through in our efforts as AirBnB-hosts. And we'd love to get suggestions for improvement.
