El Pretexto is our home and life’s undertaking. A space that combines wooden villas, an agroecology farming bed, an orchard, a forest, and a large wooden deck. Located in a very peaceful area in the mountains of Cayey with fantastic views all the way to the south coast and just one hour away from San Juan. El Pretexto is an adults-only (18+) venue, so if you are looking for a relaxed, countryside experience, El Pretexto is the place to stay. Farm-to-Table breakfasts are included each morning.

The space
The wooden house has two stories. Villa 1M is on the ground floor. There is another villa in the top floor. The bedroom has a queen bed with 300+ thread cotton sheets. Villa 1M has a private bathroom with hot water in the shower. This villa is equipped with a kitchenette and a small fridge. Breakfast is included every morning. You are welcome to join us for a farm-to-table, home-cooked dinner as an optional experience on Tuesday and Saturday nights. We also offer massages and yoga with professionals; reservations in advance are highly recommended.

It is important to note that we have a pest control process in place every two weeks, but we live in the heart of the countryside, and if the doors are not kept closed all the time, insects or critters could get in. We do everything we can to prevent this, but it can’t be guaranteed. Please keep the doors closed to minimize any undesired visitors.

Guest access
In your villa, you will have your own living room and private terrace. You can also access the gardens and the seating areas on the deck. We kindly ask you not to go inside our home in the main building.

Other things to note
We love to cook! A fresh, locally sourced ingredients breakfast is included every morning.

A four-course dinner experience is offered on Tuesday and Saturday nights. Further information on how to reserve will be shared after booking. You can bring your own beverages or buy a wine bottle from us. An optional massage session ($100 per person) or yoga session ($85 per hour) can be booked in advance and is highly recommended.

Where you’ll be

Cayey, Puerto Rico

This is a calm and quiet residential neighborhood; there are nice local places to eat and have drinks. The closest one is 4 minutes away by car. There is a baseball park at the end of the street that has a trail to run or walk.

Cayey has various famous amenities as the "Ruta del Lechón" a road full of pork smokehouses, Lake Carite for kayaking and paddleboarding, and hiking tours across natural reserves as La Robleda, Bosque de Pinos and Yeyesa Planadas.

Aibonito, the next mountain town, is full of small dive bars and "chinchorros" on the main #1 road. Cayey is also close to Salinas, a south coast town with delicious options for fresh seafood lovers. Cayey is halfway between San Juan and Ponce, one hour away from each one, north and south.
