Daytrip around Fljótsdal :
Drive along the great lake Fljótið and through the beautiful Hallormstaðirskógur Forrest to the spectacular mountain Snæfell 6014ft (1833m) that stands tall at the bottom of the wide Fljótsdals Valley. In Hallornstaðir you can visit an old arboretum with trees from all over the World. You cross Fljótið by bridge and can see the Hengifoss Waterfall, the 3rd tallest in Iceland at 337ft (118m). From there you can continue into the valley to have a look at the Snæfellsstofa Visitor Centre where you can learn about Vatnajökull and the area around it. The old Skriðuklaustur itself is also worth a visit. There you will find the ruin of an old monastery, and a lovely, charmingly situated restaurant in Skriðuklaustur. Finish the day with a drive around the lake.

Daytrip along the east fjords :
This is a beautiful drive over a spectacular mountain pass through the amazing Breiðdal (valley), with its beautiful mountains. Then along the fjord by the ocean to the next fjord – Stöðvafirði, where the amazing stone collation of the late Petra, who collected stones her whole life. (website hidden) . Stöðvarfirði also have a nice little art gallery. From here you continue north along the east fjords till you reach Fáskruðsfirði. From here, take the old road along the seaside all the way to Reyðarfirði – but it is recommended that you seek information of the road condition beforehand – it is a dirt road!

Borgarfjörður in the east :
Driving past Egilsstaðir, towards the sea, you pass a tiny white cottage where the famous Icelandic Painter Kjarval painted many of his most famous paintings. There is a museum dedicated to him in Borgarfirði where he also grew up. Driving along the black sand-dunes you reach the mountains Vatnsskarð, which you climb to get down to Borgarfirði. To watch the puffins you drive through the town to the little harbour on the right side of the fjord. During the summer season you can get really close to the puffins. It is a great experience. Borgarfirði is also a nice littlefisherman’s place to take a stroll in!
