Children and up to 2 well-behaved pets welcome.
The space
Coille Bheag is a six-acre working croft situated in Inverasdale, on the shores of Loch Ewe in the wild and beautiful landscape of Wester Ross. We're 4 miles away from the popular NC500 route which passes through the nearby village of Poolewe. Coille Bheag is perfectly placed for exploring the hills and mountains of the Great Wilderness or the Torridons, and close to many beautiful beaches. We are within the Wester Ross National Scenic Area and the Unesco Biosphere. We enjoy beautiful views across the loch towards the mountains, including An Teallach; Beinn Eighe and the mountains at Ullapool and in Sutherland, and we have direct pedestrian access to the loch shore.
The Lodge is one of three houses on the 6-acre croft, the others being our own house, and the old croft cottage. Our detached open-plan, all-electric eco-friendly Lodge sleeps up to four people. It has a cathedral ceiling and picture windows and is fully equipped for a perfect self-catering holiday, with off-road car parking for up to two cars. However the parking area is not suitable for large items such as caravans, or boats carried on trailers, or full-size motorhomes or campervans.
Children and up to 2 well-behaved pets (extra £25 pet cleaning fee applies) are welcome. However, we're sorry, The Lodge is not suitable for guests in wheelchairs.
The Lodge's lower level is a spacious open-plan living area with cathedral ceiling, wooden floors, patio doors, comfortable sofa and chairs, TV/DVD/Bluray player, desk, wifi, dining table and chairs and kitchen area, plus enclosed ground floor bedroom (with twin beds which can be converted to a king size double on request) and bathroom with shower, washbasin and lavatory.
Upstairs on the mezzanine is a large loft-style double bedroom with king size bed. The bedroom area is not visible from the lower living area because of the solid balcony.
The heating comes from electric storage heaters and panel heaters and the house is very well-insulated so stays cosy even in the coldest weather.
Some of the furniture within the house is antique or has been creatively upcycled to add individuality and character to the interior.
Great for a family holiday or a romantic getaway - and if you come for Christmas, we'll even throw in a real Christmas tree from our own managed wood. If you prefer a more traditional rustic setting, try our other house at Coille Bheag, The Cottage, which was built in 1841.
Coille Bheag is in a very rural area, so you will need your own transport to get around as public transport is extremely limited. Huge sandy beaches are however within walking distance, or five minutes' drive by car. The house commands beautiful panoramic views over Loch Ewe and the mountains and there is no street lighting for miles, so if you're a stargazer you'll see wonderful dark starry skies on a clear night. If you're lucky you might even catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights!
Guest access
The whole of The Lodge is yours to enjoy during your stay, and you are free to wander on our croft and access the loch shore. Please close all gates and bear in mind that this is a working croft in a very rural area, so there are possible hazards, and in wet weather there will be muddy areas and puddles, so bring wellies and waterproofs! Please keep children and dogs under supervision, stick to the paths, and stay out of outbuildings and woodland areas for your own safety - thanks!
Other things to note
Home-grown vegetables from our polytunnel may be available to buy in season. Coille Bheag has free wi-fi, but the available bandwidth is shared between The Cottage, The Lodge and our own house so although it is fine for surfing the net or checking email etc, it will probably not be sufficient for Zoom calls or streaming video. We have satellite TV (not dependent on wifi) and there is good local mobile coverage on most networks for voice calls and texts when out and about. If you're on EE, you have access to a 4G signal, so if you bring a mobile router you will have enhanced access to the internet if you need to work.
