The space
tinycabin is a lovingly-restored 30-year old Alaskan trapper's cabin, full of rustic charm and comfort. It's a small (11'x16') one-room log cabin, so come with someone you love! You'll be rewarded with an authentic "AK bush-town" experience in the middle of Wrangell-St. Elias National Park. tinycabin is perfect for couples, but a third person can be easily accommodated also. There is a double bed, plus a futon mattress that can be set up on the floor. A covered porch looks out on a private grassy area (additional guests could camp), wildflowers and berry bushes, and mountain scenery. The cabin has propane heater, propane and electric lights, and electrical outlets where guests can charge electronics. Wifi is available at tinycabins, but the signal may be weak at the cabin. walk next door to our cabin and get a stronger signal from outside our home. only verizon cell phones work in mccarthy. AT&T does not work here. The kitchenette is stocked with supplies for guests to cook simply, plus "semi-running water" which is a cold water cistern and basin. Towels and linens are provided, as well as filtered drinking water.

Guest access
Guests have a private, clean, new outhouse for their use and are welcome to use our hot water, outdoor shower (it's rustic, but refreshing!) under the deck of our next-door home. The town of McCarthy is 2 blocks away--a quick walk to the local general store, restaurants/bar, shuttle-to-Kennecott bus stop, flightseeing operators, guide services and historical museum. The end of the Kennicott Glacier is a 20 minute walk away and the Kennecott Mines National Historic Landmark is 4 miles away; you can walk, bike or take a shuttle. Guests can only drive to the Kennicott River, then need to walk across a footbridge and either walk or shuttle-bus the 1/2 mile into McCarthy town. If you fly into McCarthy from Chitina or Anchorage with Wrangell Mountain Air, they will shuttle you to tinycabin.

Other things to note

Neighborhood highlights

We're close enough to downtown McCarthy for easy access to nightlife and services, but just far enough that our property feels quiet and private. Enjoy wandering from tinycabin up McCarthy Creek along a woodsy trail or out in the creek bed. The softball field is nearby, where you can throw a frisbee or play softball with the locals every Friday night! Our location is the perfect mix of accessibility to both town and scenic country for wandering.

I love being outside, gardening, birdwatching, cooking, berry picking, skiing, dancing, sewing, snorkeling, hiking and wildflowers. My husband and I love to travel a bit each winter to escape the dark and cold of the north. But the rest of the year, we live in the funky little town of McCarthy, in bush Alaska. We have restored a 30-year-old trapper cabin that guests can enjoy, and we're eager to share our little piece of Alaska, Wrangell-St. Elias National Park, and McCarthy with visitors.
