Extra spacious

Guests love this home’s spaciousness for a comfortable stay.
A 3rd floor apartment at the top of a Victorian home just off the corner of Centennial Park. A short walk to everything downtown.

From our guests:
"The location couldn't have been better, and the apartment was SO spacious, with everything we needed. "

"This place is great - the attic is much larger than expected from the pictures, and comfortably fit 4 of us for a weekend. I loved the cute vintage artifacts throughout the attic"

"Awesome place! Awesome location! Very roomie and quaint!"

The space
WHAT OUR GUESTS LOVE:
We have a great location next to Centennial Park, a short walk (330 yards) to shopping and eating downtown, and just off of the Hope College.
The space is larger than people expect.
The apartment is clean. We do a full wipe down, vacuum, and mopping between each guest.

OUR VIBE
A former attic turned apartment, the place is on the third floor of a Victorian house. We are hoping to cultivate a place that is restful that inspires people to think, read, write, create, draw, and engage. We are slowly adding to the spaces collection of art, books, and objects to stimulate thoughtfulness and engagement.

OUR HISTORY
A Victorian house built in 1892 for the first president of Hope College (Gerrit Kollen) and his wife Mary Van Raalte. Mary's father Albertus Van Raalte is said to be the "founder" of Holland and is represented by a large statue in Centennial Park. Our house was soon after split into multiple apartments and has been kept as multiple apartments since that time.

TRAVELING WITH KIDS
We have a 4 and 1 year old ourselves and know it can be harder to travel with kids in tow. We keep a baby gate in the apartment for the top of the stairs if you have a toddler or crawler. We do not keep toys in the space but please message us in advance if you need toys (we have a humble collection), a pack and play, a changing table, stroller, or any other items you may have forgotten or didn’t want to pack along.

It is worth a mention that running, jumping, and stomping (even for toddlers) reverberates throughout the house. You can be kind to the neighbors below you by limiting running, jumping, and stomping. Don’t worry about a little bit of running or jumping, it is only the non-stopped variety that can test the neighbors patience. If your children have unlimited and uncontainable energy that expresses itself as thunderous stomping for extended periods of time you might find our apartment frustrating.

THE LAYOUT
The main bedroom has an olympic queen bed and the second bedroom is a smaller room with a queen bed. There is an additional room for sitting in addition to a main open room, a galley kitchen, and a bathroom.

FAIR WARNINGS (We don’t like surprises either!):
* The stairs getting to the 3rd floor are steep. Not a problem if you are healthy, but possibly frustrating if you are carrying heavy loads or have health issues.
* In the summer the air conditioners are installed in the windows of the bedroom.

Guest access
Every apartment in the house has its own locked entrance. Your entrance is on the second floor. The original attic stairs will take you up to your apartment where you have the entire floor to yourself.

The 3rd floor back door and fire escape are for emergency use only. Please do not go out on the back roof top.

Other things to note
The final stairs to the apartment are the original attic stairs. They are steeper and narrower than standard steps. They may not be easy for guests with limited mobility. If you need help lifting heavy or large luggage, please don't hesitate to ask for help.

Two tenants live below your apartment and we are on the first floor. Voices don't tend to travel far so you don't need to worry about being excessively quiet. To be neighborly, you only need to avoid running, jumping, or the slamming of doors unnecessarily. Everyone who lives in the house is friendly but will also respect your privacy.

There is a dog in the west apartment. He is friendly and is relatively quiet. If he does bark it is not for very long.
