This is the home and garden of Dr Steve Wignall. The property is called Villa Beji Indah. We are located very close to the center of Ubud, next to the Monkey Forest and in a picturesque village called Nyuh Kuning.
There are 18 staff who are all from Ubud and therefore exude the same charm and friendliness that is unique to this Island of the Gods.
Steve is a leading public health expert and activist having spent the last 30 years working with the Clinton Foundation, Family Health International and the Indonesian Ministry of Health. He has a foundation (a non- profit organization) that provides access to HIV testing and treatment for communities across Indonesia, including Bali. This is a man with a very large heart!
After graduating in the 1960s and a 21 year stint as a US Navy doctor he began work in Indonesia. His experience and close relationship to Indonesia, from Papua to Sumatra, is reflected in his eclectic home set in sprawling gardens featuring a 25 meter lap pool, plunge pools, a spa overlooking the river and garden pavilions.
A significant portions of the profits from Villa Beji Indah supports Yayasan Bali Peduli, an HIV NGO founded by Dr.Wignall to provide treatment for people living with the virus. Todate there are 700 people who receive regular services at the 2 clinics run by this foundation.
Our guests have often called this placed 'magical', 'peaceful' and 'amazing'. They have also told us that the pictures don't do any justice to the natural beauty of the actual site.
There are 10 unique suites (in 3 separate villas) on this beautiful property which runs along a lush river valley/ravine. We can house a maximum of 25adults.
It is therefore perfect if you are planning anything from a wedding, a special birthday party, a company retreat, a yoga retreat or family reunions.
This place is rented out as single rooms or as small villas (each of the 3 villas can accommodate about 5 - 10 people.
You can also rent the entire villa if you are planning a big event such as a wedding or retreat.
The village of Nyuhkuning is one of the most interesting hamlets in Ubud, noted for it's community civic awareness. It is home to Bumi Sehat Foundation run by famed midwife Robin Lim (CNN hero of the year) and also to the Bali Peduli Foundation (started by Steve and his colleagues) which focuses on HIV prevention, detection and friendly and accessible treatment. There are numerous small cafes and restaurants on the small road leading to Ubud's popular Monkey Forest which is a pleasant stroll away from the estate.
This is certainly the kind of magical place one needs to unwind, de-stress and refresh.
The property is currently managed by Steve's friend Yulia and staff members Aniek and Mitha. Depending on the time of your message, you will get an response from either one of us.
Well, if you want anymore information please let us know.
We hope to see you at this beautiful spot!
(Please note that the entire estate is a no smoking area. Also we are in the tropics, almost in a forest next to a river - so do expect to hear the symphony of birds and frogs along with geckos and butterflies. If you are not a nature loving person, this property is probably not suitable for you. If you love nature, this is a paradise)
