Comfy bed for better sleep

The room-darkening shades and extra bedding are loved by guests.
Stay in the masterfully crafted Lemuel Chenoweth homestead along the rippling Tygart river. Built in 1857, this 2nd floor suite offers antiques furnishings, a private entrance, master bedroom, bathroom, kitchenette, and mud room. It has a queen bed, dresser, large porch with views of the river, a clawfoot tub with shower, sink, toilet, and a well stocked farmhouse kitchenette with a double induction cook top, sink , fridge and more. We do not offer a TV. Near Elkins.

The space
This second story suite boasts of a expansive porch with porch swing, river views, a mudroom with bench, huge master bedroom with settee, a bath room with clawfoot tub/shower, and a farmhouse kitchenette. It has a double induction cooktop with vent, sink and drainer, coffee pot, microwave, electric tea kettle, convection oven, filtered water, cutting board, small fridge, cast iron pans, stainless steel sauce pans, utensils, strainers, salad bowls, salt and pepper, oil, vinegar, snacks and table and chairs.

The space is private and all yours. Your hosts (me, my husband, and son) live underneath your suite in an apartment on the main floor. We observe quiet time from 10 pm to 8 am M-F and 11 pm to 9 am Saturday and Sunday. Outside of this time, we consciously try to keep the noise levels down during your stay.

Cleaning: Please note we disinfect everything including the floors. We also supply wipes, masks, and cleaning supplies so you can stay safe and clean up spills. :) All linens are washed after each guest and disinfected.

Under construction: Please note that we are currently scraping and painting various areas of the house and fence toward the back.

Guest access
You have access to the entire 2nd floor. You have your own private entrance and parking space. You can walk around the home, enjoy the porch, yard, sitting area by the wellhouse under the grapevine and enjoy the town. The 2nd floor suite is closed off from the main floor where my family lives. We live in the main part of the house on and off through the year and our apartment is not accessible.

Other things to note
Please note we have blow up bed that can accommodate an extra guest or couple. Make sure to note how many people you are booking.

From time to time there may be some road noise. With an active family in the bottom apartment, I like to say the stay will be quieter than a Motel 6 but noisier than a private cabin by the lake. However, it's small-town quiet from 10 pm to about 6 am. Around 5 am there is some light road noise from a shift change at the lumber mill and when the birds decide to rejoice!

Note: This home has a rich history. It withstood the burning of the Beverly Bridge during Rosser's raid, a fire in the kitchen, and multiple updates from disco-loving decorators. However, it was fully restored back to Lemuel Chenoweth's original design by my father in 1997. Old homes require constant upkeep. Currently some paint is flaking on the outside and there is some wear and tear to the porch timbers. This adds to the rustic charm of the outside. However, the inside it spotless and looks brand new.

Neighborhood highlights

The homestead is part of a historic block and historic Beverly. In fact, Stonewall Jackson's sister lived in the red brick house that is catty corner. You can walk to museums, antique and gift shops. The Chenoweth House is next to the Tygart River and railroad tracks. The train is not active. It is nice to sit on the porch and watch the sun set over Rich Mountain as the river flows by.

Nearby: Beverly Historic District, Cutlip Coins and Collectibles, Beverly Heritage Center, Antique Mall, Gretel's Moon gifts, and more.
