Originally crafted as an artist residency, this inspiring private apartment near Lake Merritt is a dedicated space for visitors. It has a separate entrance, huge window, separate bedroom with a door, and access to our unique garden. There are countless amenities within walking distance. We are a 35 minute walk from downtown Oakland, a 15 minute walk from Kaiser. In support of our local artist community, we feature rotating shows by local artists on our walls.

The space
Great attention to detail makes this 550 sq. ft. space inviting. No one lives here full-time, so it feels like an urban vacation, complete with all of the good stuff: private landscaped entrance, large window in the living room with natural light all day long, bathtub, gas stovetop for cooking, counter-top toaster oven, full-size refrigerator, access to our beautiful garden, queen bed in a separate bedroom with a door. It feels a bit like a cozy cabin, handmade with love.

Please note: there is no microwave or TV (since people normally stream on their laptop while traveling these days), but we do have a few new additions to the space: an air filter/purifier, a space heater, a fan, and a dedicated wifi access point w/hard-wired ethernet cable.

The apartment is on the ground level and completely separate from our home, but please note: we live upstairs! Though we will most likely never cross paths unless we try, you will certainly hear us going about our daily lives. We normally keep reasonable hours, but still – if you require absolute silence, we probably aren't the best fit for you. If you don't mind the normal living noises you might hear in an apartment building, we'll be just fine.

The apartment doubles as a part-time artist residency, and your staying here helps us keep the residency going. It is fully equipped with basics, and we are happy to provide anything special that you might require. Enjoy our backyard garden, and our advice if you want it. We're happy to tell you about our favorite spots, local hikes, public transportation, etc. We love our neighborhood and think you will too.

Our wifi signal is strong these days, but if you'd like, you are also able to plug directly into the internet via the ethernet cable we provide. Please note: if your laptop accepts ethernet cables, you should be all set, *however* if your laptop requires an adapter for an ethernet cable, please bring it with you as we don't have any adapters.

We are a few blocks away from the Morcom Rose Garden, Lake Merritt, Piedmont Ave and Kaiser Permanente, Grand Ave/Lakeshore Ave, Saturday Farmer's Market, some of Oakland's best restaurants, two great movie theaters and many grocery stores (Whole Foods, Trader Joe's and Safeway).

We are about 1 mile from downtown Oakland and 19th St BART station. There are stops on our block for the AC Transit buses that will get you to/from San Francisco quickly. Extensive transportation details provided upon booking.

Other things to note
The floors are concrete with thin kilim rugs on top. With radiant heat embedded in the concrete floors, the temperature is perhaps the best you'll find the Bay Area – nice and cool on a hot day and warm and toasty on a chilly day. There is a space heater in case you need additional heat.

The toilet is on a sensitive sewage ejection system. It's crucial that *nothing* be flushed besides toilet paper. All feminine products and wipes must be thrown in the trash can, otherwise the pump will get jammed, an emergency will ensue, and the only way to fix it will be an expensive visit from the plumber.
