We arrived at two in the afternoon to find the studio really dirty. The floor had been vacuumed, but the shelves and kitchen have obviously not been cleaned properly in ages.
We found a plastic bag in a corner, with sheets stuffed into it. They smelled clean but were full of non-dissolved detergent and they were wet! Luckily, it was the middle of the day and the sun was shining, so we hung them from the balcony to dry. Not a good start.
Imagine arriving at night or in pouring rain...
Next thing was the Wifi, which actually hardly existed. We tried contacting David by phone, text message and email, but he never reacted in the three days of our stay.
Since I booked in January, I had not read all the bad reviews from February, in which case I would have cancelled. Stupid me. ;-)
The next morning the rain was pouring down and the temperature was freezing. It took hours before the heater had us even remotely comfortable, and we ended up having breakfast with our coats on.
The miniature bathroom was a horror experience, with a leaking flush mechanism and blocked drainage in the shower: just gruesome.
My impression is that David completely lost interest in being a host: looking at the reviews things have really been going downhill lately. You can't just let you guests clean for you; you can't offer useless internet connection and still advertise free wifi; you should actually provide toilet paper or tell people to bring it; as a host, you sometimes need to throw food away that people have left behind, and so forth.
We definitely left the studio in a better condition than we found it - why we bothered, I don't know - and stocked with toilet paper.
There are only three reasons to stay in this apartment:
The location is great, with everything you need close by.
The bed is very comfortable, surprisingly enough. If you are larger than average, it wouldn't sleep two people, though.
The place is in a backyard, and therefore very quiet.
If you really don't care about cleanliness, being cold or having wifi, go ahead and book. Otherwise, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
David was very warm and all around a very nice person. My sister and I stayed at David's place during the busiest time in Paris ie the Valentine's weekend nonetheless David was very accommodating. We had some problems initially. The wifi and the light in the bathroom wasn't working but David tended to them the best way he could - even ran up and down 6 floors just so he could buy a new bulb, change the light for us and catch his train after that.
As for the place, it's a real climb (6 floors) but worth it. Relatively small but just nice for two persons to stay at comfortably for several days in Paris. It's clean, has everything you need - heater, wifi, clean towels, clean sheets, pillows, comfy bed etc. It's near the Guy Moquet subway and there are a lot of shops around. My sister and I had a pleasant stay :)
The apartment is cute and in a great location though it is very basic. The futon is actually supremely comfortable and the 6 flights of stairs are not as bad as you might think. However the kitchen and in particular the bathroom are very, very small. The kitchen was barely equipped, only plastic plates and cups, not even a complete set of cutlery, just one fork and one knife. A complimentary bottle of wine was left, though there was no wine knife with which to open it. There was dust in the lounge and stains in the kitchen, we arguably left the apartment cleaner then when we arrived. Mostly this was all okay, as we spent most of our time out of the apartment. However the internet was not working, it dropped out every 2 minutes, and was extremely slow. When we contacted the host we had no answer. It definitely was a nice, cute apartment but there were definite issues that are easily fixed.
No sink.
Metro a 300 metri.
Non la prenoterei di nuovo per nessuna ragione al mondo.
I never thought I should ask a host if there was a sink in the bathroom. There wasn't, and he didn't say anything about. I went and I had this bad surprise.
The house was dirty as hell. I do understand to lower the price for not including cleaning fees, but once in a while you should clean it.
As for the rest, the house was well situated, 300mt from subway, in a nice area with a quiet neighborhood.
I would never book it again.
Excelente todo, buena ubicacion, lindo barrio, muy buena comunicación con el anfitrion. Muy recomendable!
The communication with David was easy. The apartment was clean, it's very small but there is all you need and the bed is comfortable. The bathroom is really special, I haven't seen such a tiny bathroom before, but it works. Sometimes the wifi didn't work in the apartment, but it's free wifi all over Paris, where you can use the same hotspot. The apartment is located really central and you can walk to Sacre Coeur in 20min. Nearby are a lot of restaurants and supermarkets. We had a great stay and would book it again.
We had good communication with David. The place was in a great location. Close to the Metro and there were a lot of cafés and patisseries near by.
There is a small kitchenette with a stove, microwave, and pots/pans. That was helpful on the nights we stayed in (there was also a market a few doors down).
The futon was comfortable, and we had clean linens. He does state that the occupants need to do some of the cleaning, which isn't a problem since it's such a small place.
Some downsides are that the bathroom was a little cramped and 6 flights of stairs can be a bit much carrying a huge bag on your back or after a long day of walking around (both of which I knew ahead of time from the description and photos).
Overall, a great experience.
Overall good experience. The apartment was fairly clean upon arrival. Getting the key from the owner was no hassle as he left it where he had told us and was easy to find.
Location. The apartment is located walking distance to Montmartre and Sacre Coeur. There's a couple cafes right down the block for your morning cafe/croissant, a subway stop less then 5 minutes away and a grocery store next door.
The owner. Although we have not met David in person, I enjoyed communicating with him prior to our trip. He replied to all our questions and emails very promptly and was very friendly.
Kitchenette. There a microwave, coffee machine and a fridge. We did not use them since we were out all day and until late, but I could see it being useful if you want to spend a night in.
Comfort. The futon was actually quite comfortable (David had left clean linen and towels for us to use) and the apartment is quiet at night.
Bathroom. For those guests who value privacy, you should know that there a door to the bathroom, it is open onto a small hallway. So in order to get some privacy while in the there, all you can do is close the door to the living room/main room. Also, for some reason there was no toilet paper to find anywhere in the studio when we arrive and so we had to go out and buy some ourselves. A small inconvenience, but not one we were expecting...
WIFI. There is free wifi, but it is EXTREMELY spotty. We were able to use it for a few minutes upon arrival and were never able to use it again after that. It was a minor inconvenience for us as we were mostly out and about, but if you need to coordinate/plan something using the internet, you should be aware of this.
Overall a good experience for the price. I would recommend it for low maintenance travelers wanting to use it simply as a place to crash after exploring the city all day.
