Laura communicated with us before our arrival and provided us with a warm welcome and lots of recommendations for our stay. The rooms were immaculate and everything was as described.
Comfortable and cozy interior surrounded by meditative outdoor area. The house is situated in West Sedona, easily accessible to Cathedral Rock, Crescent Moon Park, Red Rock state park and the beautiful surroundings.
My experience at Laura's Zen Retreat was spectacular. Her home is clean, well maintained, and 10-20 minutes away from everything you would want to see in Sedona. She is down to earth, friendly, and willing to help you out if you need advice for things to do/see around town. I will definitely stay at her place again the next time I visit.
This was our first AirBnB experience. During the check-in we got to meet Laura and get all the information we needed to make our stay successful. In the two nights we were there we did not see her again; however, she responded quickly to text/email as needed.
The Zen Retreat is snuggled in a quiet neighborhood a couple miles outside of Sedona. All the yards were surrounded by a maze of tall fences. The parking is within such a fenced area with a large gate that needs to be negotiated to get in and out. I do not know what all the fences were about but I remember them as a child living in Phoenix, AZ.
While the amenities state air conditioning it is really something called an “evaporative cooler” or “swamp cooler”. This type of cooling struggles to cool homes in the extreme heat and humidity of July, August and September. I was not as cool as I liked but my wife was okay with it and we were out during the day when it was hottest. Electric fans were provided in the kitchen area and bedroom.
The Zen Retreat’s bathroom and bedroom were very nice. The kitchen area was well stocked with cooking/eating tools, refrigerator, microwave, and toaster oven. The table was a low coffee table with low chairs. I prefer a 30” tall table and accompanying chairs to eat at. The Zen Retreat had all sorts of stuff such as coffee, tea, soaps, etc. presumably left by past visitors for our use. The refrigerator had a carton of milk that had given up the ghost and provided my wife with a pleasant disposal task. We avoided all other orphaned foods in the refrigerator. Still, we had a nice welcome with two freshly picked apples, the non-perishables and everything in order. We recommend this place with the caveat that cell reception doesn’t exist in this area of Sedona (it does in other areas and internet at the Zen Retreat was great).
Regarding the air conditioning, when I went in after you left, I had found that you may have accidentally closed one of the main vents that allowed the cool air to flow in.
Also, maybe you didn't see the TV trays provided that would bring the height of your eating much higher. Sorry about the milk! I must have forgot to check it.
Finally, I have a cell phone that I use here and other guests have received cell reception here too. It could have been a couple of reasons your cell didn't get a signal: Your model might be older and not as strong as the newer cells or your particular carrier does not have many cell towers in the area.
Our trip was short but very sweet! We arrived at almost 10 PM but Laura was still awake to greet us! We had our own little space with a mini kitchen, bathroom, living room and bedroom. It was perfect for our short trip (We mostly just needed a place to rest our heads after hiking). Laura was very friendly and understanding when we were late for our checkout time (It is very easy to lose track of time when hiking in Sedona!)
Laura's Zen Retreat was a perfect place for our family of 3 to call home for a few short days in Sedona. Laura's place was in a perfect location for us- off the beaten path (the stars were crystal clear at night) but still close enough to get to town (less than 10 minutes by car). Laura recommended nearby Crescent Moon Ranch- great place to hike along the creek, picnic, and just enjoy the sights of the red rocks. Thanks for a great stay, Laura!
Zen retreat was exactly as described, nestled in a residential area, away from the bustle and quiet. The location was near all the sites we wanted to explore, and close access to town.
