The perfect downtown, creek side location to enjoy all that Ketchikan has to offer. Right on the boardwalk trail that leads to Creek Street my home offers a unique way to experience quintessential old world Ketchikan. Full size bedroom ideal for 2.

The space

Richard Bach, author of Johnathan Livingston Seagull and Illusions walked through my door one day and insisted on visiting. He said: "I have to stay here". You may well feel the same way. My home is down home comfortable and exudes an aura of calm where stories are shared. The waterfall next to the house is soothing and time slows down. Here is a special place that I have the privilege to call home and share with guests and friends. A glass front wood stove crackles and a driftwood rocking chair creaks beneath you as you gaze out the window over the creek watching the salmon leaping on their last journey home to spawn. It is a place of quiet reflection, inspired meals, baked bread, red wine and laughter shared.

Guest access

Guests will have access to the main floor, dining room and kitchen. A laundry is available for $5 per load. A shelf in the refrigerator is for your use.
The bathroom is shared.

Interaction with guests

Interaction is on a case by case basis. I have a separate hair salon in the back of my property where I style hair so visiting tends to wander around my schedule. I try to run a Kosher household so I would appreciate no pork products in my home!
Cooking is my passion. Cooked meals and breakfasts are available during your stay. Breakfast $10-$15. Evening meals $20-$25.
If you would like to tour to the end of the road and see more of our town I enjoy taking an evening trip to see the tide flats where bears are often seen feeding on salmon as they return to spawn. A 2.5 hour trip is available for $40.

Other things to note

My home was built in 1917 and the bedroom is on the second floor up a flight of fairly narrow stairs. The shared bathroom is on the lower floor. Guests with mobility issues will not enjoy this! I also have two Dachsunds, who will bark at you when you come in the door but will adore you after you stroke their ears! Dog lovers will appreciate this, but if you are allergic or ambivalent about dogs my home may not be a good fit for you. I am a hairstylist and massage therapist, if you think you may want one or both of these services we need to schedule early to make sure there is room for you.

Cathy is a great host who makes her guests feel most welcome. The fresh homemade bread is a wonderful treat. Her location is great for walking to downtown and then making connections for all excursions or activities.

I am so lucky that I was able to stay at Cathy's place during my stay in Ketchikan. The room and more importantly the bed was very comfortable and I had everything a guest needs. More importantly, Cathy is a wonderful person and a great host. Cathy was very gracious to offer me her time even before I arrived to answer some of the questions I had regarding the area and activities. Then when I was there, she gave me all her time to answer my questions and guide me during my stay. She went out of her way to help me and make me feel comfortable. Her homemade bread, granola and coffee are wonderful! Thank you Cathy! I also truly enjoyed her company and being able to chat and interact with her some evenings. I felt I had known her for years.. She is such a nice person, and I felt really “at home”. I would recommend Cathy's place to people looking for a comfortable room and having a great host! Thank you so very much for everything Cathy….. You are a great host!

Cathy is a great host. She was very warm and welcome. The room and whole house is charming and located perfectly so I could walk to town to see the shops/restaurants/cafes, or walk to the Deer Mountain trailhead for a nice and steep hike to get a terrific view of the town and surrounding mountains - weather permitting. (She provides a great hiker's guide in the room, as well.) As other reviewers said, the white noise of the creek was pleasantly lulling at night, for me. She also let me know there was a yoga studio just a few minutes walk along Married Man's trail and Historic Creek Street, which was a welcome activity after getting off an overnight ferry ride from Juneau. She provided a satisfying breakfast, even cooked a fresh sourdough round and insisted I take the remaining with me on the two-day ferry ride to Bellingham. She invited me to an outing with a friend of hers to a hatchery that was offering free salmon. We also happened to witness a bear at the foot of the hatchery salmon ladder, so it was a nice way to experience Ketchikan. Her dogs are sweet and politely sought out out belly rubs and ear scratches, which I was more than happy to oblige to.

We stayed 1 night with Cathy and thoroughly enjoyed our stay!! She let us drop our bags off early, which was a huge help since I hadn't planned accordingly, and wasn't prepared to haul 2 suitcases, 2 backpacks, and a 7 year old around Ketchikan until check in. Location is spot on, and the creek was wonderful to fall asleep too! We would definitely stay again :)

Response from Cathy:
Thinking of you brings a smile to face. I have a hunch the world is a better place just because you and Lila are in it.

Cathy was an incredibly welcoming host. She was very responsive to all pre-arrival communication and any questions I had during my stay. She is a natural host and ensures visitor comfort. Her pups are a great addition to any visitor who needs a doggy fix and her home is in the perfect location for just about anything (town shops, creek street, hikes, parks, cruise ship berths, etc)
