About This Listing
My creekside home is the perfect downtown location to enjoy all that Ketchikan has to offer. Right on the boardwalk trail that leads to Creek Street this is the best way to experience quintessential old world Ketchikan. Full size bedroom ideal for 2
Richard Bach, author of Johnathan Livingston Seagull and Illusions walked through my door one day and insisted on visiting. He said: "I have to stay here". You may well feel the same way. My home is down home comfortable and exudes an aura of calm where stories are shared. The waterfall next to the house is soothing and time slows down. Here is a special place that I have the privilege to call home and share with guests and friends. A glass front wood stove crackles and a driftwood rocking chair creaks beneath you as you gaze out the window over the creek watching the salmon leaping on their last journey home to spawn. It is a place of quiet reflection, inspired meals, baked bread, red wine and laughter shared.
Guests will have access to the main floor, dining room and kitchen. A laundry is available for $5 per load. A shelf in the refrigerator is for your use.
The bathroom is shared. Continental breakfast.
Interaction with Guests
Interaction is on a case by case basis. I have a separate hair salon in the back of my property where I style hair so visiting tends to wander around my schedule. I try to run a Kosher household so I would appreciate no pork products in my home!
The creek, the waterfall and the quick access to shopping and the ocean. The neighborhood is busy with locals and tourists and plenty of time is spent chatting over fences.
There is a public bus stop is a short walk around the block from the house and can be ridden for $1.00 accessing all the major sites in Ketchikan.
Other Things to Note
My home was built in 1917 and the bedroom is on the second floor up a flight of fairly narrow stairs. The shared bathroom is on the lower floor. Guests with mobility issues will not enjoy this! I also have two Dachsunds, who will bark at you when you come in the door but will adore you after you stroke their ears! Dog lovers will appreciate this, but if you are allergic or ambivalent about dogs my home may not be a good fit for you. .. I have a bicycle that you are welcome to use. The spokes and handlebars a rusty, it would love to see some pavement and the bike trail along the waterfront. … I am a hairstylist and massage therapist, if you think you may want one or both of these services we need to schedule early to make sure there is room for you.
I ask for smokers to do so outside. I try to run a Kosher household in Ketchikan which is nigh on impossible but would ask that no pork products be brought into the home. You are welcome to use the food products in the refrigerator or cupboard unless specifically noted.
From Mar 1 - May 31, 2015 the minimum stay is 1 night.
Cathy was warm, welcoming, and well-prepared for my stay. Her house is beautiful, and right in the heart of town at the end of Creek Street. She makes delicious food, and is wonderful company. I couldn't recommend her place more strongly.
A very welcoming home, warm and cozy. A bakers kitchen, whipping up cakes and cookies in minutes. I enjoyed our conversations and our little adventure on the other side of Ketchikan. Great location! Hope to see you again soon!
It was a delight to share my humble little home and community with you. I am still very excited about discovering a place to go that is new to me!!!! The flowers are growing and spring, perhaps our summer is blessing us with some of the best weather I have seen in Ketchikan. You should see us know!!!! Kim saw a humpback at the end of her dock, Richard limited out on halibut and picked up a blue glass float on their beach all last night. (Just cleaned the fish, didn't catch them last night,) … Hope to see you again.
if you stay with Cathy in Ketchikan, that's probably the best decision you could have made.. the house is very cozy and right in downtown juneau.
I wouldn't have had such a good time in Ketchikan, if I haven't met Cathy, Joseph, Winnie and Pooh and Cathy's friends...
I spent 2 weeks with Cathy in January 2015 in her beautiful cosy house in Ketchikan. What a delight! Cathy came to pick me up upon my arrival and made me feel totally at home from the get go. She was a wonderful host during all of my stay. The house is very well located in the heart of historic Ketchikan, right on the boardwalk overlooking the Ketchikan creek, a must-see attraction. The private room was very confortable and overlooking the Ketchikan Creek; and each night, I would fall to sleep at the sound of the waterfall. Friends would drop in on a regular basis, which provided a great opportunity to meet and chat with some of the locals, and hear about life in Ketchikan. The location is great, I could walk to my class at the Totem Heritage Centre, to the nearby Deer mountain where I did wonderful hikes or to Creek Street, where restaurants, cafés and boutiques are in heritage buildings. Cathy's two little dogs, Winny and Pooh, are the cutest! I will never forget my stay with Cathy and recommend staying at her B&B when in Ketchikan!
I came to Ketchikan for a week to visit my son who had seasonal work there this summer. With the price of hotel rooms fairly high, I opted to trying out a B & B for the first time. What a delightful experience! Cathy's home is in a friendlly neighborhood, next to a dramatic creek which is one of the many tour stops in Ketchikan. The town is a short and lovely walk down the boardwalk path which is part of the self guided creek walk tour.
It was an added bonus to get to know Cathy in our brief daily encounters. She made me feel more like I was visiting a friend than a guest renting a room, and her two sweet little dogs that made me less homesick for my own.
I would defintely recommend staying here for many more reasons than I can fit into the number of words limited to this review. If I am luck enough to return next year...I will try to book this home early.
If you are going to Ketchikan, and need a place to stay, you must stay with Cathy; she makes you feel that her home is your home and does anything for you to enjoy your time there.
It started with getting to know a host, and ended up to have a friend / friends, in Ketchikan!!
The home was clean and cosy, the company great, and the food delicious. Cathy, Winnie and Pooh are the warmest hosts. Their home is located right next to creek street and a short stroll to downtown. Be sure to get a massage or haircut while you're there.
