Here are some interesting facts about the Brooklyn area! (Courtesy of Wikipedia)
Brooklyn is the most populous of New York City's five boroughs, with nearly 2.6 million residents, and the second-largest in area. Since 1896, Brooklyn has had the same boundaries as Kings County, which is now the most populous county in New York State and the second-most densely populated county in the United States, after New York County (Manhattan). It is also the westernmost county on Long Island.
absolutely no smoking!
Bertie and Juliens place was great - exactly as described and clean. They graciously suggested my 5 yo could play with their toys. Great neighborhood and their recommendations are spot on!
An absolutely wonderful experience staying at Bertie's home. I would say that pictures do not do this place justice. This multi-level house is very homey - the master bedroom doesn't share the floor with the other bedrooms, creating a lot of privacy and there are multiple living area spaces - family room with Apple TV, dining area with a wonderful and large reclaimed wood table and living area, and office space. Both bathrooms also are very updated and modern. We came to celebrate my mother's 60th birthday with my family and it was a great for our family size of 4. The area is also just amazing - round the corner is an amazing market the boasts an great selection of fruits, veggies, meats, pastries etc. and then there are always restaurants and coffee shops galore to explore in the area.
Beautiful appartment in a great neighbourhood. Really enjoyed exploring Park Slope (including Prospect Park) and having a wonderful, spacious, bright home-base for our family after our various expeditions into Manhattan. Bertie was a terrific host and provided helpful recommendations regarding favourite restaurants etc. in the neighbourhood.
Bertie's apartment was absolutely perfect for our family's winter holiday visit to NYC. There was an abundance of space for two parents, a parent-in-law, and two children to relax after long days out and about. Our sons especially enjoyed access to a wonderful assortment of books and a piano on which to play carols. Just minutes from the subway and well-stocked grocery stores, the location couldn't have been better for us. We did a lot of walking directly from the apartment, including to Green-Wood Cemetery and Brooklyn's Chinatown. The apartment is very clean and filled with beautiful and interest art and photos yet also extremely homey and not at all fussy. Thanks so much to Bertie and family for hosting us for our wonderful NYC adventure!
We had a great time. Arrival went smoothly, she emailed us with all the details we needed, and there was someone there to meet us as arranged. The house is two stories on ground and lower ground with multiple lounging areas, three bedrooms, two bathrooms, washing and (great) drying and the rest. This brownstone is a family residence with other family and a guest above. Bertie’s comes with toys and fluffy towels and family pics and decent reading and interesting art. It’s just off 7th Av Brooklyn, Park Slope, which is now trendy but still with artists, small business and characters and local stores, coffee, restaurants and bars. Further afield, it’s a short walk down 7th Av Brooklyn to the F Train and West Village in 30 mins and uptown and connections further on, and that magic of NYC, the Subway, runs past midnight (unlike London, Paris). There’s some trust required here on both sides. Bertie’s generous with her things and the doors are open within the building, but no worries for us. Bertie was also responsive with a few questions. Brooklyn people are friendly and this is family. We felt at home and treated it that way. Thanks to Bertie for a great visit.
The experience of staying at Bertie's was wonderful. The location was fantastic, close to amazing restaurants and Union Market for any groceries you may need. Bertie made us feel welcome and continually checked in on us to make sure everything was going smoothly. Our family had a great time and we would highly recommend this residence to anyone looking to stay in Brooklyn.
Absolutely cannot thank Bertie and Julien (and their girls) enough for allowing us to stay in their beautiful home and for making us so welcome!
The apartment is in a gorgeous part of Brooklyn, close to absolutely everything we needed - great restaurants, bars, parks for the kids, public transport and shops. We had so much fun exploring.
Bertie's detailed personal notes about the area were so very valuable and her help in suggesting activities especially suited to our interests and needs was just brilliant.
The actual apartment was clean, bright and beautiful and having the gorgeous yard on warm summer nights (complete with fireflies!) was so special.
Finally, Julien was always on hand with suggestions, kind words, a warm smile and endless patience with our chatty son!
It was just the most wonderful three weeks in New York! Thank you!
