This is one of the few places in the area with free parking.
The Bakoni Hide-Away is an off-the-grid retreat, ideal for a romantic getaway for lovers of the African bush. Unfenced, it is set on a remote spot on the side of a mountain with abundant birdlife, buck and other game around. The design was inspired by the many stone circles that occur in this region and the Bakoni people who are believed to have roamed the area in the past. It is ideal for couples and 2 older children can be accommodated on the mezzanine floor if privacy is not a requirement.

The space
The cottage is targeted at birders and nature lovers familiar with the African bush who will delight in perhaps seeing a porcupine, jackal, buck or other wildlife drinking in the little rock pool close to the house. Lovely walks lead you to two waterfalls and some very special stone circle ruins that the area is known for. The cottage is not fenced in and a small rock pond has been created nearby to attract birds and game for closer viewing so this is the only cottage on our property that is not pet-friendly.

A vehicle with high clearance is required to reach the hide-away (4x4 only necessary in wet weather). The owners will happily shuttle their guests to the cottage if need be.

Guest access
The entire cottage is rented out. It is optimally designed for 2 but 4 can be squeezed in if privacy is not a concern as it is one large open-plan room with a private bathroom.

Other things to note
The cottage is off the grid with hot water being provided by a very efficient solar geyser. A large fridge / freezer is available and a gas hob and outside fire place is provided for cooking. A large iron cast "potjie" pot is available for slow cooking on the fire.

Schoemanskloof is renowned for its bird life, its stone circle ruins and terraces, and also its wildlife. Our farm is very special in that the mountainous terrain is covered in pristine bush with 2 gorges with streams and waterfalls. The traffic noise from the N4 can be heard at times but most guests still enjoy the peace of the surroundings on the mountain.
