The Space

The flat is located in the city center, in the beautiful island of Ortigia, near the most important shops and the famous daily fish-market and the best restaurants.
The house is composed of three bed rooms, where 6 people can comfortable stay. Every room has heaters and air conditioning, every room (email hidden) high speed internet connection.
There is also a crib for my little guests.

Guest Access

My guests can use every part of my apartment, the kitchen is fully equipped (microwave, kettle, stove, oven, Hd-Tv, ETC...)
In my apartment you can stay on the little balconies and admire the Big Port (Porto-Grande) and The Small Port (Porto Piccolo), the house is on the last floor of an old historical building.

Interaction with Guests

I'll interact with my guests, if they want.. I like cooking Sicilian dishes and if you want we can go to the daily fish-fruit-vegetables-cheese market, I'll introduce you to the sellers of the daily market, and I'll give you some advices to live like an authentic Siracusano (Inhabitants of Siracusa) and we can organize an original Sicilian dinner.

The Neighborhood

The area is very quite and people living in the building are very characteristic inhabitants from the southern Italy.
My neighborhood is very authentic, the apartment is located in the historical centre, people living in the building are old nice people living here since they were born. They have always something to tell you about their life and they have lot of free time..In the morning you can listen to my best neighbor, Mr. Mazzarino, singing and listening old Italian songs.. I love him!

Getting around

The public transport system in Sicily, is very you need to rent a car.... but the best way to go around the City is by bike, but take care of car drivers... they are really crazy!!
If you want I can also organize a transfer from the airport.
If you are coming by airplane (destination airport: Catania or Palermo), the best way is to take a bus from Catania Airport to the railway station of Siracusa (last stop).
I recommend "INTERBUS" and "AST" bus companies, if needed, on their website you can check the timetable.
If you're coming by car you can park for free just below my apartment (it's really safe)
If you are coming by train, my house it's nearby the rail station.
If you want I can organize a visit on the Volcano Etna with a guide (a friend of mine)

  • Mario was a charming intelligent young guy who came to collect us from the station, unexpectedly. He was proud of his apartment and spent time showing us the facilities. It was a terrific apartment in an outstanding location.

  • The apartment was perfectly located. Mario was extremely helpful with restaurant suggestions and all the local resources. He was especially knowledgeable about the nearby cultural sights and beaches. We couldn't have asked for a better apartment or a better host. We truly enjoyed our visit and would definitely come back.

  • Mario's place is sensational. It's right next to Ortiga and is extremely spacious. If you're lucky you'll get taken to the markets by Mario and shown the best place to eat around. It really made a happy start to our trip to Sicily. Highly recommended.

  • My wife and I hold the record for the length of stay at Mario's place having booked it for 32 nights. And we've since dubbed him Super Mario because nobody could have helped us settle into a place like Mario. He's a gem. And he's as genuine as the day is long. As other reviewers have stated, he showed us the places at the market to shop, places to eat, (Amuni) across the road from his apartment is magnificent, and gave us invaluable advice of what to see and how to see it. And he was unbelievably kind when we had to urgently return to Australia for a few days for a funeral. The apartment is probably bigger in real life than we imagined, with three big bedrooms, a big toilet and a kitchen big enough to prepare meals and to sit around the table with four people and enjoy a glass of of wine. We particularly enjoyed the location because of its proximity to everything, a walk around Ortigia takes roughly around 40 minutes. And within 10 minutes of Mario's front door, you can be in the magnificent duomo piazza enjoying a spritz while watching the world go by. It far exceeded our expectations, and like many other people, we'll be back. But hopefully, we might see Mario sooner because we have offered him a standing invitation to stay with us in Perth any time he wants to pursue his passion for windsurfing.

  • We really enjoyed Siracusa and this beautiful and big apartment located very close to Ortigia (historical center of the city). Everything was perfect. Mario is a nice host and communication with him was easy. I truly recommend it!

  • Mario speaks good English, so communication was not a problem. He was very kind and helpful, even met us at the bus station and gave us a lift to the apartment. The apartment itself is character decorated, spacious, clean (although the shower cabin is a bit mouldy) and stocked with pretty much everything you’ll need for a short stay. It is rather noisy as the windows are paper thin, so you may need to pack some earplugs. It is on the third floor and there’s no lift, so maybe not suitable for everyone in this respect. The location is perfect for exploring Ortigia. It’s also close to the rail and bus station – about 10 minutes walking. We didn’t have a car, but I’d say parking may be a bit of a challenge. Internet connection was fine. All in all - not a bad choice for a budget stay.

  • Hi
We had a lovely time at Mario's home. Mario was kind enough to pick us up from the bus station and dropped us at the apartment. Following which he showed us the local market, restaurants to go and avoid as well.

I do not think there was anything negative. I guess the only point is it is on the third floor so bit of a climb but which Mario has made it clear in the description.

He also helped us arrange a taxi for a very good price as it was a Easter Monday.

I love windsurfing, surfing and snowboarding...I'm studying to become a lawyer. I'm living in Milan but my apartment is managed by my parents Francesco&Silvana. I often travel between Siracusa and Milan. I can't stay without sea, I like travelling for windsurfing, know new people from all over the world. My favourite place is Morocco, Essaouira, I don't know why... My ideal trip is by a sailing boat around the Greek Islands. My best food are all Sicilian dishes, I love eating fresh fish cooked by my mother...and the "arancine " from the best place in Siracusa by "bar Midolo" close to my house in have to taste it!!! My favourite quotation is: “Never to go on trips with anyone you do not love.” Ernest Hemingway, A Moveable Feast
