The space
Cool Water Barn is the artful renovation of an old structure with emphasis on functionality and comfort. This beautiful 6 acre saltwater view property offers a peaceful retreat in a quiet corner of the the world for those who seek peace and tranquility or, within a short driving distance , a world of outdoor adventures and discoveries.
The property can sleep six adults. There is one bedroom with a queen bed and a spacious loft space with two queen beds. One large bathroom adjacent to the master bedroom with an oversize shower, accommodates all guests. Guests can enjoy a large deck with a propane grill most of the year. The property also has high speed internet and satellite TV plus a full laundry facility.

Guest access
Guests can drive directly to the front of the unit and park on the gravel driveway just steps from the main barn entrance, making arrival easy and convenient.

The main floor of the barn has been preserved in its original, functional state and was designed to accommodate horses (there are currently no domestic animals on the property). A short staircase leads to the private loft unit above. The door is typically open for your convenience, with the keys located on the kitchen counter.

Inside, you’ll be welcomed by a rich and eclectic collection of original artwork, including paintings, photography, Western, and Native American pieces. Many of these works were created, collected, or used by your hosts, Barbara and Mory, during their ranching and riding days, giving the space a unique sense of history and character.

Guests are invited to explore and enjoy the entire property. While there is no direct beach access from the backyard, the views more than make up for it. Take in spectacular sunrises and sunsets overlooking the San Juan Islands and the British Columbia coastline. Relax on the deck beside the cedar gazebo and watch bald eagles perch in the old-growth cedars before diving for salmon below. On rare and lucky days, you may even spot orca or gray whales offshore.

In the summer months, the orchard behind Cool Water Barn is filled with cherries, plums, and figs, with apples and pears ripening in the fall. Guests are welcome to wander the orchard and enjoy the fruit.

For those who enjoy walking, running, or cycling, a short walk down Gehrke Road leads to the Olympic Discovery Trail, which stretches for hundreds of miles across the peninsula and along the coastline.

Cool Water Barn offers a peaceful retreat where art, nature, and sweeping coastal views come together for an unforgettable stay.
