This private suite allows you to submerse yourself in a quiet bohemian getaway – slip into bed after taking a warm bath in this high desert New Mexico retreat. Relax, meditate, or simply nap in the hammock in the interior courtyard next to the shade tree and wall fountain pond with goldfish. Stargaze, or enjoy the mountain view from the property of the main house with a coffee or cocktail. Maybe catch a glimpse of the bobcat, deer or the wild horses of Placitas – all are regulars in the area.

Location

Placitas, New Mexico, United States

We are located in Placitas in what was considered the old North Village. The house is less than a half mile off Hwy 165, the main road to the village, and only 6.5 miles from Interstate 25. The main house sits on Arroyo del Oso and faces the north side of the Sandia Mountain range. We are conveniently located between Albuquerque (25 minutes away) and Santa Fe (40 minutes away). The Railrunner train station is just a 10-minute drive to the bottom of the hill near the Placitas exit at I-25. The train is a super lovely way to get to Santa Fe and Albuquerque.

We are super conveniently located for Balloon Fiesta – as you will be driving against traffic for the most part, not with it!

If you like hiking, mountain biking, road biking, skiing and snowboarding then Placitas has it or is near it. Continuing past your guest quarters on Hwy 165 will take you up the back road to Sandia Peak. About 7-8 miles of the trek up the mountain is dirt road but there's lots of hiking and parking /picnic areas along the way. From your guest quarters it's just 20 minutes up the mountain to 'Sandia Man Cave' archaeological site, and 45 minutes to Sandi Peak ski area, or go all the way over to the east mountains to visit Tinkertown Museum , and drive the Turquoise Trail through Madrid and on to Santa Fe.

Placitas and Sandia Peak are known for excellent mountain bike trails and road bike rides. The Placitas foothills provide world class mountain biking trails that are also open to hikers and horses. There are 2 main parking lots for these trails found here. . Road racers are often seen on HWY 165, which is also frequented by Olympic trainers.
At Sandia Peak Ski Area in the summer you can bring your mountain bike on the chair lift which is open from Memorial Day through Labor day. Helmets are required. Of course, the chair lift is also open for hikers, sight seers AND at the top of the lift is a nice restaurant and bar that overlooks all of Albuquerque.
