We were looking for a low-key place to relax for our anniversary and the Temple Treehouse was perfect! John's pre-trip info made getting settled in super easy. John and his WWOOFer crew were friendly and welcoming. We occasionally saw guests in the other properties, but we were isolated enough that we weren't constantly running into each other.
The Treehouse itself was a great secluded alternative to a hotel or beach house. The 103 step climb isn't for the faint of heart or those that have trouble with mobility, but there are places to stop and catch your breath if needed. The reward is a great view through the trees of Sunset Beach from virtually anywhere in the Treehouse. Fantastic porch and living area, great little kitchen and a hand-built spiral staircase to the loft bedroom. Now, since the Temple is virtually open to Nature (screen walls to keep much of that Nature outside) Nature chooses the temperature, and the "cool ocean breezes" we hoped for never got that cool. There's a fan in the bedroom that we brought downstairs when we needed it and placed at the end of the bed at night to blow a breeze, but that was only possible because I had a light duty extension cord with me, so pack one in- you'll thank me.
During our four day stay we took advantage of the gear stash he has on site, using the boogie boards and SUP boards every day. Since we were new to SUP, John directed us to a sheltered cove near Turtle Bay resort where we could literally get our feet wet. And by the time we left I was pretty comfy. A word of advice - the snorkel gear is a little rough and you might want to bring your own mask/snorkel; wouldn't you rather know where that thing you're putting in your mouth has been anyways?
Bottom line - John is delightful, the Treehouse is a great way to unplug and reconnect with life, and we plan on heading back the next chance we get.
Last minute needed a place to stay to extend our vacation for a few days, John led us to The Treehouse Temple. What a majestic, spiritual place to stay. Perfect for the more adventurous folks! Next time will stay longer to take advantage of the yoga and activities of the staff.
The only way to describe my stay at the temple treehouse is simply magical. After a few days of rushing around and trying to take different places in, in a short period of time this place provided the perfect retreat. We met john on arrival who told us about the place and welcomed us. He and his wife were absolutely lovely. Tucked up in the trees watching the sunset was a wonderful feeling. To cut a long story short, my night in the temple treehouse will stay with me forever.
Cool place. Great location with easy access to gorgeous beaches. Had fun surfing with Doug
The Temple Treehouse made for a very unique stay. All those steps are worth it to then spend time in a house among the trees. The chirping birds and friendly geckos were fantastic. The mosquitos...not so much. Despite keeping the screens closed and using the net over the bed we were bitten quite a bit, so consider using spray or lighting a citronella coil. Also, the internet didn't work, so consider this property a way to unplug from a hectic life.
Very friendly folks, and a perfect getaway for nature lovers.
I have dreamed of living in a treehouse my entire life, and the one night I spent at the Temple Treehouse with my boyfriend in June 2015 fulfilled that dream, for sure! Arrival was super easy and the property is amazing. Great location across from some great beaches… Definitely check out the Elephant Thai truck for dinner! Treehouse was beautiful… sunset cocktails with the ocean view from the deck was amazing. The bed was comfortable. Bathroom and kitchen were perfect. We didn't want to leave in the morning and stayed until 11am reading and watching the geckos and birds play all around us. Pack light… there are quite a few uneven stairs to get up to the treehouse, but its certainly worth the climb!
My friend and I stayed at the Temple Treehouse in June 2015. If you are looking for a unique experience on the North Shore, this is it. The treehouse is a magical place, set high on top of a mountain side across from Sunset Beach (you can see the ocean from the treehouse). John has a very special property and the treehouse is one of several small lodgings. It's remote and rustic, without being overwhelmingly isolated. The view and ambiance are true crown jewels of this space. The building itself is beautifully constructed and maintained, we particularly loved sitting on the north facing porch.
The space is well appointed with essentials (towels, silverware, etc.) and comfortable furniture. Everything is kept perfectly clean. Recreational equipment like bikes and snorkels were also available to borrow.
I think someone else said that there wasn't much in the area, but I felt like I was in the heart of the North Shore. The beach, gas and food nearby and Haleiwa and road side farmers' stands only a short drive away. This is a space only for people able to negotiate their baggage up several flights of stairs and comfortable in an outdoorsy environment. The whole property part-wilderness, part-garden, 100% well maintained and environmentally friendly.
If you are undecided but curious about the treehouse, I'd encourage you to try it. I think you'd be hard pressed to find a better location or lodging on the North Shore. And you certainly will not regret the experience. Our night here was a highlight in our vacation.

About the Host, John
30+ year North Shore vet and crew love to share local knowledge with guests. We overlook the most beautiful ocean and love to get in it everyday! From white water first timers to big wave tow ins, kite surf, stand up paddle and traditional surfing, we do it all. The focus is fun and we will put you in the right place to maximize yours. We eat mostly vegetarian and organic, and a lot of our food we grow on the property. Yoga is a focal point for us, and if you care to join in we are all inclusive... novice first timers and seasoned yogis alike! The communal yoga deck overlooks the surf at Sunset Beach and has been the venue for some wonderful practice for our guests that have visited and ourselves as well. We enjoy inspiring and being inspired by the friends we make up here. There are a couple of other bungalows on the property that are inhabited by like minded people, we always welcome you to join us, but are very respectful of your privacy.
