Our experience was simply outstanding at the Temple Treehouse. John greeted us with a big smile and hearty handshake when we arrived, reminded us of all the wonderful amenities, water toys, and gave us the general lay of the land. The Treehouse exceeded the expectations set by the amazing photos on the listing, and the beach was incredibly close/convenient. We got a sense of the shared nature of the property, but it was even more fun than we thought sharing the land with such grounded, calm, intentional, and hospitable folks. John was even kind enough to share some food with us, too. One regret was not using the amazing yoga deck; we will have to come back for that. We have been some amazing retreat locations and this is easily in our top 5 we have visited in the world. I would highly recommend it to anyone who loves outdoor living, peacefulness, high-quality yet simple facilities, and Zen-like tranquility. There are few experiences that can rival riding out a deluge while staying dry with a hot cup of tea, a book of poems, and your sweetheart in the snug embrace of the Temple Treehouse. Thank you for a miracle of an accommodation, John and crew. When we are back on Oahu, we will be in touch.
The treehouse is in a beautiful location and very relaxing. The bed and couch were very comfortable. John and the property manager were welcoming and helpful. The amenities included in the stay are great - brand new communal yoga space overlooking the beach, bikes and boards. We would definitely come back.
I can't write anything that hasn't already been said--the treehouse is AMAZING! In fact, the whole property is a really special place. It's so lush and green, with such gorgeous plants, and so many beautiful little cabins and spaces. The view of Sunset Beach from the deck, looking through the beautiful foliage, is magnificent, and then at night the view of the stars (especially when you turn all the lights off!) is marvelous.
We trotted down to Ted's (A MUST GO) to grab dinner and dessert and ate on the deck with a bottle of wine every night. It was the first time I felt I was experiencing "real" Hawaii, not the tourist traps that characterize other parts of the island.
John was always great about communication and there was always someone on the property to help us out if we needed it.
A few things to keep in mind before you go:
1.) there aren't that many food places around, and it's a bit difficult to get to them since the treehouse is a bit out of the way. I advise you either stock up at the grocery, which is a little drive down Kam highway, or do what we did--grab dinner and dessert (and, for that matter, breakfast and lunch) at Ted's Bakery.
2.) the treehouse is quite a climb! We are pretty fit so it wasn't difficult, but nonetheless you get out of breath. Try not to bring too many things to haul up there!
3.) the treehouse is really open. We felt totally safe on the property, but we laughed that the treehouse had a key because a person could simply climb AROUND the door--there are no walls! The people who work on the property are very trustworthy, but in case you worry about roving randoms, perhaps bring a lockbox or leave valuables at home.
4.) Stay MULTIPLE nights! Two days were not enough for us :)
The Temple treehouse was the perfect place to spend 5 days relaxing on the north shore. John has a beautiful piece of property and it was amazing to fall asleep to the sound of waves and feel in the middle of nature while still sleeping on a comfy bed with a nice bathroom and our own little kitchen. This was glamping at its best! The location is perfect --- just a short walk to Sunset Beach with a grocery store and coffee shop about 2 miles away and our favorite North Shore style food trucks scattered nearby. We read books, sun bathed, hiked and explored and were always happy to come home to the treehouse. John was helpful and friendly --- we'd definitely go back!
John was very careful and our stay was amazing! everybody on the property is also very nice. I just have to thank's and i definitely recommend the place! tip: don't bring a heavy bag!
absolutely great staying at the Tree House! amazing location. Can only recommend it!
This was truly an incredible experience! The house was beautiful, the scenery gorgeous, and our host was incredibly welcoming. John made himself available throughout our stay. He let us know that his door was open anytime we needed anything, and he or his son were always available if we had a question. He checked in with us when we passed by the parking area often to make sure everything was okay and to check if we needed anything, but was never invasive. John also had his stand up paddle boards and bikes available to borrow. My husband and I could not be happier with our experience!

30+ year North Shore vet and crew love to share local knowledge with guests. We overlook the most beautiful ocean and love to get in it everyday! From white water first timers to big wave tow ins, kite surf, stand up paddle and traditional surfing, we do it all. The focus is fun and we will put you in the right place to maximize yours. We eat mostly vegetarian and organic, and a lot of our food we grow on the property. Yoga is a focal point for us, and if you care to join in we are all inclusive... novice first timers and seasoned yogis alike! The communal yoga deck overlooks the surf at Sunset Beach and has been the venue for some wonderful practice for our guests that have visited and ourselves as well. We enjoy inspiring and being inspired by the friends we make up here. There are a couple of other bungalows on the property that are inhabited by like minded people, we always welcome you to join us, but are very respectful of your privacy.
