For first time visitors to Sunset Beach, John's welcome letter covered all the details we needed to find our way to this glorious complex of bungalows in the trees. Our family of three really enjoyed unplugging from the world for a couple days, waking to a chorus of birds and the sounds of the surf. Best advice is to pack only what you really need for your stay and leave the rest in the car as it is a hike up a steep hill, as promised, to the Temple over stepping stones and a geiko or two popping out to say hello. The Temple is best suited for couples with a very comfortable queen bed in the loft but John helped accommodate our party of three, with our teenager who managed fine sleeping on the rayan sofa at night. If you want to a unique, low key, lodging experience on this beautiful part of Oahu, this is the place.
The treehouse was an amazing two night stay for me and my girlfriend. While we did not meet John (we didn't seek him out) - we were greeted in a warm aloha spirit from everyone we met on the property. It was a bit of a hike up the hill, which was well worth it - the tree house is amongst other smaller cabins - but never felt imposed on and it was super peaceful.
I will be back for sure - a beautiful location to spend a North Shore vacation. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!
John was perfect host (and the team). I was greeted with coconut, took a tour around house. Its perfect place to chill out and surf with guys (thanks Keith!), eat mango directly from tree. Amazing view from sofa and bed, prepare to wake up in the middle of Hawaian jungle.
Our stay at John's Temple Treehouse was AWESOME. Falling asleep and waking up to the birds chirping and waves crashing was unreal. It was a soothing place to be and we enjoyed every second of it. John and the rest of the folks there were so welcoming and he had so many boards and bikes for us to borrow. We practiced yoga and meditated on our balcony every morning to the sound of nature, surfed daily at the surf spot right in front of the treehouse, ate fruits, and explored all the fun spots that were so close to the treehouse. I was a little worried about mosquito bites since the treehouse was so open, but the mosquito nets helped a lot. The stairs going up to the place wasn't too bad either :). I've never been so sad to leave a place before. It was such a calming sanctuary. I'm so glad we stayed here for part of our vacation and we hope to come back again soon! Mahalo!!!
We loved our experience staying in the Treehouse. It is clean, really fun, and everything we needed was provided. John was very helpful and a delightful guy. This is a magical place with a great vibe.
Our experience was simply outstanding at the Temple Treehouse. John greeted us with a big smile and hearty handshake when we arrived, reminded us of all the wonderful amenities, water toys, and gave us the general lay of the land. The Treehouse exceeded the expectations set by the amazing photos on the listing, and the beach was incredibly close/convenient. We got a sense of the shared nature of the property, but it was even more fun than we thought sharing the land with such grounded, calm, intentional, and hospitable folks. John was even kind enough to share some food with us, too. One regret was not using the amazing yoga deck; we will have to come back for that. We have been some amazing retreat locations and this is easily in our top 5 we have visited in the world. I would highly recommend it to anyone who loves outdoor living, peacefulness, high-quality yet simple facilities, and Zen-like tranquility. There are few experiences that can rival riding out a deluge while staying dry with a hot cup of tea, a book of poems, and your sweetheart in the snug embrace of the Temple Treehouse. Thank you for a miracle of an accommodation, John and crew. When we are back on Oahu, we will be in touch.

About the Host, John
30+ year North Shore vet and crew love to share local knowledge with guests. We overlook the most beautiful ocean and love to get in it everyday! From white water first timers to big wave tow ins, kite surf, stand up paddle and traditional surfing, we do it all. The focus is fun and we will put you in the right place to maximize yours. We eat mostly vegetarian and organic, and a lot of our food we grow on the property. Yoga is a focal point for us, and if you care to join in we are all inclusive... novice first timers and seasoned yogis alike! The communal yoga deck overlooks the surf at Sunset Beach and has been the venue for some wonderful practice for our guests that have visited and ourselves as well. We enjoy inspiring and being inspired by the friends we make up here. There are a couple of other bungalows on the property that are inhabited by like minded people, we always welcome you to join us, but are very respectful of your privacy.
