Fearrington Village, North Carolina is a lovely rural community, just eight miles south of Chapel Hill. Over 50 visual artists live and create in Fearrington. Nature-inspired painter and sculptor, Dr. Forrest Greenslade has his Organic Forrestry Studio and Forrest Dweller Sculpture Garden at his home in Fearrington Village. The Artist’s Garret BNB, just above Forrest’s studio, is a comfortable one bedroom apartment with gallery sitting room, full kitchen and bath, all decorated with Greenslade’s art.
After parking in a private space, you will be greeted with a fresh arrangement from the garden and some unique North Carolina treats. Take a few moments to enjoy some of Forrest’s sculpture in the front yard or paintings in the Greenslades home gallery. Forrest and his wife Carol-Ann will be happy to give you a personal tour. We can also arrange for you to visit other Artist Studios at Fearrington Village. You will also find information on local recreation, shopping and dining in the surrounding areas in your room.
The BNB is in a separate building over the studio. The sunny BNB kitchen has new granite counters with stainless sink, refrigerator-freezer, well stocked Keurig coffee maker, microwave, toaster, range and dishwasher. You can enjoy a snack or meal at Aunt Addie’s antique maple dinette table & chairs, recently decorated by local artist friend Kate Ladd. Make your breakfast here, or go to the Dancing Goat in the Fearrington Village Center.
The large gallery sitting room is filled with light, right up to the cathedral ceilings. A colorful rug that Carol-Ann dragged home from Tunisia, dresses up the newly refinished parquet wood floor. You can sit in the comfortable leather chair, and put your feet up on the matching ottoman, or use your computer via wifi at the partner’s desk, on which Forrest wrote his PhD thesis, nearly 50 years ago.
The cozy bedroom has a new queen-sized bed, with 500 thread count Egyptian cotton sheets. The room is decorated with keepsakes and childhood works by daughter-artist Kathryn Greenslade Armstrong. Watch some cable TV, do some reading, and get a good night’s sleep. Just off the full bath, is a walk-in closet and library.
The BNB has central heat and air conditioning with an electronic air scrubber.
Enjoy the sculpture garden. Take a long walk on one of the community trails that adjoins the Greenslade garden, which is a National Wildlife Federation certified wildlife habitat. The garden has been featured in Carolina gardener Magazine.
The Artist’s Garret BNB is a quick walk to the Fearrington Village Center, with incredible gardens, gourmet restaurants, a first-rate independent bookstore, spa, hair salon and charming shops. Fearrington Village is a unique rural community with many creative residents.
Fearrington is in the country, so walking and driving are the primary modes of transit.
If you are interested in the arts and love staying in a pastoral area with easy access to two university small towns, and a state capital as well, this is the place for you! Fearrington Village is a charming development 8 miles south of Chapel Hill. You can walk to three restaurants, make an appointment at a spa, take pictures of the Galloway cows, and walk on trails through pines. Chatham County is home to an amazing number of artists, of which Forrest is one. He can point you in the direction of other artists, whether they paint, craft sculptures, do pottery, make jewelry or provide different musical genres. Great soda shoppe (with ice cream) is minutes away!
I have known the Greenslades for 8 years, and have collaborated with Forrest many times on art projects. They are warm, kind people, who make you feel welcomed immediately. Carol-Ann is generous and fun, with an eye for the details that make a house a home. Forrest is an excellent fine artist and writer, who loves to share his enthusiasm for life with others. His artwork is pleasing to the eye, earthy, sometimes fanciful and often textural. As past-president of the Chatham Artists Guild, of which I am a member, he demonstrated his natural abilities to lead and get things done. He is fully tapped into the thriving local arts and music scene. I have been to their home, and the BNB apartment is beautiful. The whole property is a peaceful sanctuary, with walking trails punctuated by Carol-Ann’s gardens and Forrest’s nature-inspired sculptures. I would love to stay at a retreat like the Artist’s Garret.
Forrest has had a longstanding interest in international women's health issues, and I met him occasionally at meetings over the past few decades. He'd be a fascinating and delightful airbnb host.
What a delight to stay at Forrest's B&B because of him.
Forrest is a fascinating man as well as a fine artist. His genuine interest in other people and the world around him make him an ideal host.
As a friend, I find Forrest warm, fun to be around and always willing to help when asked.
His art is sometimes whimsical, sometimes speaks a serious message and always great to observe and enjoy.
I am confident that anyone meeting Forrest for the first time will seek opportunities to spend time with him again and again. He is what I would call a well put together, happy person.
Haven't seen Forrest in a while but we know each other through our work commitments to women's health. Forrest is a good guy, gentle, funny, a good listener. Has great integrity. Someone you can be comfortable around. Seems to me to be the kind of person good for Airbnb where strangers become friendly but not intrusive fast.
My dear friend Forrest is not only an amazing artist, a scientist extraordinaire, but also one of the most friendly and warm people I have ever known. We have been friends for over 10 years when we worked together on an arts council in North Carolina, and though time may pass between our time together, his open warm nature brings one inside his karma immediately. His interests are so varied your time spent with him will open new worlds and expand your current ones dramatically.
Gosh, I guess I've known Forrest for over 20 years now! As former colleagues, I can say that it's great to work with him; he's fair, thoughtful, smart and fun. He approaches life and art with the same curiosity, sense of wonder, respect and delight. I value his friendship and his service to the community-- he's a great neighbor and I'd stay in his B&B anytime!
Forrest is one of my favourite personalities in the community I live in; creative but not egotistical, a contributor to many public causes and a person who laughs easily. I think of him as kind, sensitive, responsible, flexible and interesting; in other words the perfect guest.
