The Space

Welcome to The Tiger's Den. My house is about a block from Fresh Market at Paco Plaza. This is a secure gated community with a guard at the entrance at all times. It's a five minute walk to a great gym and about a 15 minute walk to a great pool. We're about 20 minutes from the center of San Jose and 25 minutes from the main SJ airport (Juan Santamaría International Airport). We're also about 20 minutes from the Tobías Bolaños International Airport airport in Pavas.
There are two bedrooms I rent out with a queen sized bed in each. Plus my bedroom and a private suite with it's own bath and private entrance.
Provided with the cost of your bedroom are towels and linens, and a private or shared shower w/hot water, color TV and cable in your room, plus high speed wireless internet.
I enjoy sharing my space with people who are easy- going, neat, healthy, or at least interested in getting healthy, non-tobacco smokers.

This is a gay, vegetarian and animal friendly establishment. You don't have to be gay or vegetarian but I do hope you like animals. I have two cats and two puppies. If you have allergies, or don't really thrill to animals in your space, just keep your doors closed and the animals won't enter your room. If you want animals to play with mine are very friendly.

Guest Access

Although I list the place as handicap accessible, there are 3-4 steps to enter the house. There is also a bed in the front fenced in area to relax in the evening and watch the moon and stars, with a hammock and two swinging chairs.
You have access to the rest of the house including the kitchen, living room with fireplace, dining room, an outdoor bar/BBQ area, that includes a 5th full bathroom and washer and dryer, a refrigerator and running water and seating for several people.

I have a big yard with a patio, tropical plants surrounding a bar/BBQ area. The garden offers the perfect environment to read, eat, or simply relax or meditate. The bar is also a nice dry place to watch the rain in front of the fireplace during the 'green' season.

There's a dining room and a large eat in kitchen with all American-style appliances including a dishwasher. There is a large living room with a TV and fireplace.

Interaction with Guests

I interact with guests on an intermittent level. I'm in the house a lot, but also have an art studio so I'm in there for a big part of the day. I will cook meals at a cost of $10.00/per person, but usually require 24 hours notice. I'm friendly, but also busy.

The Neighborhood

This is a great neighborhood, close to everything! Gym, swimming pool, bus, a nice park, walking distance to restaurants, shopping and hundreds of services like hair salons etc.

Getting around

The bus to San Jose stops practically in front of the house. .60-.80 cents to get anywhere.

Other Things to Note

I love to teach people how to prepare great meals. You buy the food and I'll show you how to prepare it.

  • A great stay! An upscale house in a secure neighborhood. Within walking distance to the bus stop to go to downtown San Jose. Tiger goes out of her way to make your stay pleasant. Highly recommend!

  • I stay 10 days at Jilla's place, Jilla is a great person, fun to be around, unfortunately she had plans to travel during my stay and spend few hours with her, the location is fantastic in a very safe area, transportation is few blocks away, only objection I have is the mattress in the bed is worn out and too soft for me, noisy if you move around, over all I do recommend Jilla's place.

  • Unfortunately I had to cancel the booking due to medical reasons but have to say that Jilla responded quick to all my enquiries and her attitude was very positive.

  • Escazu is a lovely neighbourhood with a multi-plaza mall, Walmart, TGIFs, and many other stores a short walk away.

I had stayed with Jilla for 2 weeks during my surgery and major orthodontics. CIMA hospital, where I had my surgery, is a short 10 minute walk away. During my recovery, I was not in my best sorts. Jilla was a kind and gracious host, allowing me to use the bedroom with the TV while I recuperated. When I encountered complications, she called the doctor and helped as she could. She is a very healthy eater, making numerous shakes, of which I enjoyed a few. Thanks, Jilla.

  • The apartment is very large. There is a beautiful courtyard within the apartment!
We were mom and son (both adults) staying with Jilla.
The kitchen is big and has all the amenities of home.
Each bedroom is quite big with plenty of light, great storage, a lock box, a fan, (never was needed) plenty of linens and towels.
Tiger is an expert in physical training and gave my elderly mother some great exercises for balance. She, a creative and helpful person.
All the bowls, cups, and plates, were thrown by Tiger on her own potters wheel. They are beautiful pieces of ART!!
From the plants to the paintings, she has added so many artistic touches to her apartment.
Extremely convenient location for San Jose theaters, businesses, museums, parks, great restaurants, the new plaza, San Jose's Jewish community, and the Synagogues.
This area is one of the few that has real sidewalks making walks and jogs a pleasure. The views of the mountains from walking on the street are stupendous.
    And good internet connection!

  • The room is great, the water is hot, the condo is very clean with lots of tile and wonderful tropical wood trim. It's in a really convenient and totally safe neighborhood of upscale Escazu, a 10 minute walk to the bus which will take you directly into the heart of downtown San Jose in 20 or 25 minutes for about 60 cents US. Or, local restaurants, shops, even WalMart are within a 10 or 12 minute walk.

Tiger is a fantastic hostess, kind, considerate and really helpful. Talked me through the bus, getting around in San Jose, and cooked some wonderful meals taking into account some special dietary issues.

    I will be back again!

  • This was my first experience renting a room from someone via the Internet...and what a positive and fun experience it proved to be. The host, Jilla, AKA Tiger, is a vibrant, intelligent and kind woman, not to mention being a phenomenal host. She pays great attention to detail, esp. in her guests likes and dislikes. Additionally, she is a great tour guide, superb cook and fun to spend time with. Her home is lovely and most welcoming to all who enter her front door. My room and bathroom were clean, quiet and bright. Although only staying for 6 days, I left knowing and believing I had a forever new friend and a warm and safe place to stay upon my next visit to rainy Costa Rica. Thanks, Jilla....my time with you was a big 10-04!!!!!
