Less than a mile from the Peavy Arboretum gateway to McDonald Forest and an easy 15 minute drive to Corvallis and OSU, this stand-alone guest suite offers the peace of the outdoors with the close proximity of the city. With a studio style bedroom, kitchenette, bathroom, and off street parking, guests have the privacy and freedom to come and go as they please. For summer visitors, Anderson's Blueberry Farm is right next door. Grab a map of the trails or the city from the bookshelf and explore!

The space
Note: This suite is ideal for social distancing measures as it is entirely separate from the main house and shares no interior space.

Furnished with a Queen bed and a brand NEW (Oct '20) Tuft&Needle mattress, a kitchen table, and chairs, an individual or couple will have plenty of space to spread out and enjoy their stay. On rainy days or quiet afternoons, a floor to ceiling bookshelf is loaded with a wide variety of books and a blue tooth speaker for playing music. A 4k Smart TV is also available for entertainment. Please note that there is no cable television, but the TV is set up so you can log into any of your Netflix, Hulu or Youtube accounts or rent a movie for the night on Amazon. Air conditioning and an easy to use heating system, keep the space pleasant in every season.

The kitchenette comes equipped with dining ware, a Keurig coffee machine, a microwave, a toaster oven, and a small fridge. Please note that the kitchenette does not offer a stove or full-sized oven. Light breakfast items including organic instant oatmeal, cold cereal, local milk, fruit, coffee and tea are provided. A fully-stocked picnic tote is available for guests wishing to take their meals outdoors or adventure out into the woods and nearby wineries.

In a private bathroom, guests will find freshly laundered towels and all the basic toiletries they might need. The standing shower is easy to access and a private water heater ensures that guests will never run out of hot water.

The side door opens up onto a small, covered patio with a swing. Take your coffee outside and enjoy watching the hummingbirds argue over the feeders.

The suite is located on a small homestead with goats, chickens, ducks, and more! Please feel free to explore, but take care not to enter any closed gates or pastures without permission.

Guest access
While the main house is off limits for guests, visitors are welcome to enjoy the 1 acre grounds which are in the VERY early stages of becoming a permaculture food forest. We have been planting fruit trees and bushes all over the property to mix in among the existing flora. As the food forest begins to grow, please help yourself to any of the produce growing in the garden or on trees. We are currently in the process of constructing a greenhouse in front. If it has been completed by your visit, you are welcome to step inside. We have brought our citrus love with us from South America. Varieties of citrus, coffee, papaya, and cinnamon trees will have you dreaming of the tropics from our temperate climate in the PNW.

Other things to note
**In light of the Covid-19 situation, I want to assure guests that I am taking extra precautions. I always clean the guest suite thoroughly between guests, however, to make it a safer and cleaner place for guests, I am airing out the suite between reservations, I am disinfecting all surfaces that are touched, and I wear gloves while I clean. All linens are always washed between guests, but I am taking the extra step of using clean linens that were not used by the previous guest and have been stored in a clean and safe place. If you have any additional requests that relate to Covid-19, please let me know and I will do my best to accommodate. An example would be leaving the bed unmade so that I minimize my handling of the linens.

Please be aware that there is a house dog and two friendly livestock guardian dog puppies (large!). They may bark when you first arrive, all are extremely friendly. Take care not to let them out of the fenced yard as they will happily follow you on all of your adventures. The two guardian dogs are puppies and still learning, so please do not leave any shoes or items out on the side patio. We also have chickens and ducks on the homestead. They provide the eggs we supply in the suite. We do raise our own chicks, so there is a rooster who also protects the flock from predators. If threatened or disturbed at night, he may wake up earlier than normal and start calling. Closing the windows is usually enough to block out his calling as he is located on the other side of the property.

The neighborhood consists of one long stretch of road right next to the forest. Most of our neighbors are farmers, homesteaders, or private residents. Anderson's Blueberry Farm is right next door and a must visit if you are around during blueberry season. For hikers, mountain bikers, and nature enthusiasts, Peavy Arboretum is a half mile down the road. The Arboretum is the entrance to hundreds of acres of OSU research forest. The trails are open to the public year round (seasonally for mountain bikers) and can keep you busy for 15 minutes or weeks on end depending on your skill level or interest. There is no formal sidewalk, but the wide shoulder allows for frequent dog walkers during the day. All of our neighbors have been very friendly and happily wave as you walk by.

I can almost always be found outdoors, working in the garden or hiking around with our babies and dog. My husband and I moved here from Paraguay, where he is from and I was serving as a Peace Corps volunteer, just over 2 years ago. We bought a house just on the edge of the woods with an acre to transform into a living food forest. We have two little boys and love traveling whenever possible. We have explored large parts of South America and are hoping to make it to see the rest of the world soon. We speak English, Spanish, Guarani, and understand some Portuguese.

During your stay
We are always puttering around the property, planting or building something. You are welcome to come say hi or join us if you desire. While we recently moved here from South America, I was born and raised in the local area and would be happy to provide recommendations or directions to local attractions, wineries, hiking, and food of course! All of that being said, as introverts ourselves, we make your privacy and need for personal space our highest priority. With a private key, you can come and go as you please and interact as much or as little with us as you like.
