The space
The Recker House is a five bedroom (each with a queen sized bed), 10 guest property available in Alta Vista, Iowa, which is a small town in northeast Iowa. While The Recker House is a great property in and of itself, one of its most unique features is that a second house, Grandma Z's, is located directly across the street and which is also available for short term rentals. Between the two properties, there is comfortable housing for 20 guests, making this a great area for families to gather for get aways, reunions, weddings, etc. These are also great properties for use by hunting parties, girlfriend weekends away, short term work assignments and more.

The Recker House is fully equipped with linens, towels, cookwear and dining needs. The main floor of this ranch styled house features two bedrooms, each with queen sized beds, a full bath room with a tub/shower combination (one of the bedrooms also contains a separate shower stall) , a stackable washer and dryer that can be used by guests, a large living room with seating for approximate ten and an open floor plan that allows the living, dining and kitchen areas to flow together. There is a 32" flat screen TV in the living room.

The lower level of the home features a large family room with a 32" flat screen tv with a built-in dvd player, a kitchen area with a full sized stove and refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, etc., a bathroom with a shower, three bedrooms with queen beds.

The house has central air and heat, egress window in the basement and has wireless internet access. There is a covered patio area behind the garage with table and chairs and a charcoal grill (guests will want to bring charcoal and lighter).

The doors to the home are coded with a four digit code unique to each group of guests so no need to worry about losing keys.

Our guests tell us they find everything they need here, plus more! There is a pack and play as well as a supply of toys and board games in the closets. The house is equipped with a hair dryer, iron, ironing board, two televisions each with basic cable service, washer and dryer, coffee pots, toasters, microwaves, dishwasher on main level.

When you leave, we ask that you take your garage to the containers in the garage and that you leave the house in relatively clean shape with dishes placed back in the cupboards. By doing so, you help us keep our rates low! We expect to wash the bedding and the towels and perform basic cleaning.

Guest access
Guests have access to the entire house during their stay. A bike trail with 25 plus miles of paved trails is located about four miles from the property. The house is 15 miles from New Hampton, which is home to the annual Davis Bike Rally and about 18 miles from Charles City, where a white water rafting course is available on the Cedar River.

Other things to note
Our guests tell us this is a great place to gather when visiting relatives in the area. We also have groups stay with us when they gather as a family--we seem to be a good "middle" place for many families to meet for holidays, etc. There is good pheasant and deer hunting in the area and many guests enjoy visiting the Mennonite greenhouses in the area for their annual planting needs.

Small town born and raised, we've opted to remain in the area throughout our careers. In addition to full time occupations, we operate several rental properties, including three furnished homes through which we provide short term rentals. We enjoy furnishing the homes and helping to provide get away experiences for others--and we sometimes use the homes ourselves and for the lodging of our own out of town guests! We've discovered that grandkids are about the best thing that can ever happen ... what a reward for raising kids of your own!
