Come enjoy a unique farm stay experience on the north coast of California. Our family produces organic flowers, food, and fiber on 10 private pastured acres surrounded by forest and rolling hills. Stay in comfort and quiet in our newly constructed "country chic" barn loft which includes a full kitchen, spacious bedroom, full bath, all basked in warm natural light from the south facing windows. Explore and learn on our farm or easily travel to many of Humboldt's spectacular attractions.
The space
The barn loft is up a short stair case and well insulated from farming operations. Reclaimed old growth wood frame the country charm, combined with modern amenities. Heated by a thermostat regulated pellet stove and cooled by a big ceiling fan. Cook your breakfast on the fully restored 1930's Spark gas stove using fresh organic produce and eggs available seasonally for purchase from our farm.
The master bedroom sits just off the living room and is equipped with a queen sized bed and 2 pull out single beds. The couch in the living room also opens into a queen bed. High speed Wifi is available and T.V. entertainment is located in the office nook.
Guest access
Situated on the north side of the barn, there is a spacious outdoor setting where you can lounge in the sun, climb tree stumps, greet our animals, enjoy a camp fire, and take in the scenery. Take a self guided stroll around the property or make an appointment for a detail tour and introduction to our working farm.
Besides our own home, there is one other private home on our property and these places are not open to visitors.
Other things to note
The farm barn loft is quiet, clean, and completely insulated from farming operations. However, outside, the farm is always alive and active! Between the leaping goats, fluffy puppies, flower harvesting, and tractor activities, there are many opportunities to get your hands dirty, should you desire! However, those who are less farm inclined may watch safely from behind the fences :-)
If you are traveling with kids or a big group, please keep in mind that the loft is about 650sq ft when considering your space requirements.
If you are interested in visiting us to experience (or taste!) something specific on our farm, please let us know, and we will make recommendations for the best time to book. Everything has a season here and production is always changing. As a guide, here is a general outline of what you might see throughout the calendar year:
Baby Animals - Spring
Green Veggies - Winter/Spring/Summer
Cut Flowers - Spring/Summer/Fall
Pumpkins - Fall
Hot House Produce - Summer/Fall
Pastured Pigs/Cows/Broilers - Spring/Summer
May Day Festival - May 1st (or nearest Saturday)
Pastured Eggs - Year Round (when chickens are laying!)
Mohair Yarn for Sale - Year Round

McKinleyville, California, United States
Fieldbrook is in a valley just east of the first hilly range from the McKinleyville coastline. This beautiful area consistently enjoys warm sunnier summers and the occasional snow flurry in the winter. Our community consists of a patchwork of big ranches, homesteads, and farmettes inhabited by some of the most down to earth people you will meet in Humboldt County. Our "downtown" consists of one elementary school, fire station, community hall, an award winning winery (with open hours on Sunday!), and our beloved Fieldbrook Eatery. We recommend you walk, ride a bike, or drive to the eatery at least once during your visit to enjoy a homemade meal, local beer on tap, outdoor patio, live music on Friday nights and mingle with the locals!
Our farm is conveniently located within a 12 min drive to downtown Arcata and Humboldt State University, Central McKinleyville, and Blue Lake. All of these places offer diverse entertainment, shopping, fine dining, outdoor adventures, and much more. The most popular tourist attractions, including exquisite beaches and giant redwoods are within a 20-30 min drive.
Or, just walk across the street from our farm, to visit a "you-pick" blueberry farm, open seasonally!

Hello, my name is Sarah and my husband Matt and I have enjoyed living in Humboldt County for over 20 years. We are currently raising our 2 young children on our organic farm in Fieldbrook, while Matt also works at Humboldt State University. Matt and I originally moved to Arcata to attend HSU, but stayed long after graduating because of our love for the local culture, environmental beauty, and the creative and friendly people of Humboldt County. Matt is an accomplished musician with a strong passion for acoustic old time country and bluegrass. He's a member of the beloved "Striped Pig String Band" who regularly organize and play for barn dances all over the county. While staying with us, you may occasionally hear him playing his fiddle on the porch. As a student at HSU, I focussed my studies on sustainable agriculture and have applied all I learned and more to developing our little organic farm. For years I was involved in managing some of our local farmers markets, but now my time is entirely balanced between growing/marketing our products and being a full time mom! Down time is rare, but when it rains I also enjoy crafting, baking, and knitting. We all love enjoying the natural beauty of our county. Matt surfs at many of the local wild and challenging surf breaks, we often camp and hike in the summer, and sometimes make it up to the snowy mountains in the winter. But our favorite place is always back at home!
