Beautiful area

Guests love this home’s scenic location.
Mountains higher than Yellowstone, wildlife that's really wild, exciting history, and no crowds! The Bighorn region is a vacation destination for the discriminating visitor, and this rustic cabin with a huge new deck and a treehouse view on the eastern face of the mountains is filled with charm and located near Sheridan, Wyoming. Owners occupy a separate basement apartment. Single group rental includes shared deck space and laundry access and by request at extra charge additional sleeping space.

The space
This is not a fancy hotel. It's a rustic, quirky, charming 30-year old cabin on the face of a mountain, but with a 2022 remodel/refresh throughout. Adventurous guests only! This cabin was built by hand by its only previous owner, modeled after The Old Faithful Inn in Yellowstone, where he was a park ranger in his younger days. It runs on solar power and propane heat with two wood burning stoves for those extra chilly mornings. The house was a very popular bed and breakfast for many years.

Stairs: You can access one bedroom, the kitchen and dining, two bathrooms, and a living area with no stairs, but there are multiple staircases to the other areas of the house.

Extra bedroom may be available upon request at additional charge, May-July 2025.

Note that we will decline requests for bookings longer than fourteen days.

Guest access
We have a full kitchen with appliances and cookware, dishes, and utensils, keurig, and a coffee percolator. There are two wood-burning stoves. We provide towels and linens, toilet paper, paper towels, soap, shampoo, and dishwashing soap and pods.

Other things to note
This mountain house is gorgeous...AND it requires operation and living "intentionally." If the owners aren't there, you will need to follow instructions on how to conserve power, run a generator, use a fireplace, and fill cistern water. It is at the end of a single lane private road which is winding and steep. The power is from solar, the water from a well, the sewer is septic. It has excellent 4G/LTE cell phone reception and fast, reliable internet which the owners use for endless Zoom calls, very successfully.

Monitor the weather daily, bring appropriate gear for severe weather year-round.

We have unpenned outdoor dogs and cats, and we have draft-cross horses onsite. You may see wild animals near the house. You may see a mouse in the house. Also, you are renting a mountain cabin without maid service during your stay. In some months, mountain cabins will have flies. Period. If you want a pest-free vacation experience, you should NOT pick a rustic mountain cabin, and you should expect that authentic pests come with an authentic mountain cabin experience. :-)

In the warm months, there is no air conditioner. In the cold months, you will need to augment the heat with wood burning stoves and dress warmly.

Absolutely NO electric vehicles are to be charged at the property! You will face a $1000 fee and immediately be asked to vacate the property.

If these things don't deter you, you will adore this charming, creaky, gorgeous place, which is bordered on two sides by BLM land and has access to the entire Bighorn National Forest. It's on the eastern face of the mountains overlooking Sheridan and on into Montana to the north and Moncrief Ridge to the east. Neighborhood highlights

Our nearest neighbor is 1/2-mile away and is awesome. We are at the end of a private road. The property is bordered on two sides by BLM land which is adjacent to the Bighorn National Forest. The setting is spectacular, and as you drink coffee on the deck, the land opens up into a gulch with rock cliffs before you.
