Room in a townhouse

Your own room in a home, plus access to shared spaces.
Our beautiful century-old house is perfectly situated for exploring the city: we're half a block from Metro Insurgentes, there is a bike share station across the street, and Ubers usually arrive within minutes. Super comfy bed, private balcony and bath. We love sharing our home with guests and helping guide them to the best spots in the Mexico City.

The space
_________________________

Our house was built in 1905 with gorgeous colonial features: high ceilings, hardwood floors, lots and lots of light! The room is located at the front of the house, and we live in the back, so there is plenty of privacy for our guests even though it's a shared house. Our office is a short walk away, and a friend has a vintage clothing store in the bottom floor of the building, so there's usually someone here in case of a lockout or any questions that might arise.

Guest access
Guests have access to their bedroom and private bath, the living room, dining room, kitchen, patio, and rooftop.

WIFI, cleaning service, nice towels and bedding, bathroom basics, healthy self-serve breakfast of fresh fruit and homemade granola, great coffee, mezcal straight from Oaxaca, maps, city tips, help booking travel, etc.

During your stay
My husband Jorge and I both adore this city and make it easy for guests to navigate and figure out. We're available to field questions, help book travel, explain public transport (it's easy!), and find hidden gems of this megacity.

I moved here from the Austin, Texas fifteen years ago and love sharing the places I've discovered, especially suggestions for where to eat! Jorge has an extensive knowledge of the history of the city. We're open to share as much as our guests like, and also happily keep to ourselves for those who prefer not to socialize. We do prefer guests who aren't partiers; we are not very late night people and we work very hard; guests arriving home at 4am on a weeknight isn't ideal (1am is ok, though — we're not super strict!). We often host friends for dinner or rooftop movies, and our kitchen always has a few bottles of mezcal that I order straight from the palenque en Oaxaca — no brand, wild magueys, and I can confidently claim you won't find better mezcal anywhere in the city.

Other things to note
We have a labrador-mix rescue dog who doesn't enter the guest room unless invited—but those with severe allergies are probably better served elsewhere. The dog, Ciro, is a sweetheart, but he does bark when people come in the door (including me) and may even growl. Guests just need to reassure him when they enter, and he'll chill out.

Noise: our street can get loud in the mornings and evenings. This is not a quiet city, and drivers regularly lay on their car horns. The schools on our block are also quite loud, with daily morning announcements and singing. Light sleepers, beware! We provide earplugs, and no guests so far have complained about the noise, I just want to make sure everyone is aware of it.

Sorry, no children allowed.

Neighborhood highlights

_________________________

Roma Norte, as you've probably already read, is full of cafes, galleries, quaint parks, etc. It's safe and beautiful. Our neighborhood was built by the aristocracy of Mexico City in the late 1800s / early 1900s, and the colonial architecture remains. Roma suffered quite a bit of damage following the earthquake of 1985 (as well as in 2018), but in the past decade has seen a rapid revitalization and the opening of many of the city's best restaurants and galleries. We're just a quick walk from Condesa, another beautiful neighborhood with lots to see and do. Colonia Juarez is also up-and-coming, and just 3 blocks away.

I’m happy to spend time with my guests or give them space
I am a graphic designer from southern Virginia who somehow found my way to Mexico City. My husband Jorge and I love to travel, and we enjoy meeting new people from around the world. I'm a little food-obsessed, and he's a little art / culture-obsessed, so I think we're a good pair to host visitors to this dynamic city.
