The Windmill was the most perfect place for myself and friends to stay at in Amsterdam! Absolutely beautiful and just like the pictures! The town of Abcoude is so cute and every thing you need is close by (the city itself is a 22 min train ride away) easy to catch public transport! - Maarten was a fantastic host, picked us up from the station and had a cold Heineken waiting for us at the Windmill and showed us around! We would love to come back one day, i was lucky enough to have the top room and the bed was super comfortable. Thanks for an awesome time. Cheers, Dani
Maarten was very welcoming and very helpful in orienting us to the windmill, surroundings, and even coordinated with my husband for flowers and champagne for our anniversary. Everyone (three generations traveling together) loved the windmill and it was definitely a unique and wonderful experience. When we arrived, the windmill was running, and Maarten and his windmill coach/instructor were super patient and took time to explain and show how it all worked.
Maarten was a fantastic host. Communication prior to arrival was very good and we certainly were completely blown away with the windmill. Like others have said we wish we had stayed for longer!!!
Maarten showed us around and how everything worked which was really useful. My kids absolutely loved the place and didn't want to leave. The area is so safe and it was great just being able to let the kids have fun on their own. We were visited twice a day by a small herd of black wooly sheep that were so friendly we really liked being so close to all the farm animals.
We were really looking forward to this experience and were not disappointed. Marten replied very quickly when we contacted him about our arrival and met us with a warm welcome. As you can imagine, this is not your everyday accommodations and he gave us a tour of the facilities as well as the history of the windmill. It is in such a lovely area of the countryside; yet only a 10 minute ride to the train station and then 25 minutes into Amsterdam Centrum.
Amazing place to stay, we wished we could have had longer. Made to feel so welcome & Maarten always on hand if we needed anything. Peaceful surroundings, an easy walk/bike to the local town and great links to Amsterdam. It was definitely the best of both worlds - staying at the beautiful windmill meant we could relax in the countryside while still being able to pack in all things touristy. We'll never forget the wonderful windmill - fingers crossed we can book in again one day.
Supergemütliche Unterkunft. Wir haben uns dort sehr wohl gefühlt. Sehr gut gelegen um Ausflüge zu machen. Wir kommen wieder einmal in die Mühle. Eveline, René, Sarah, Jerôme und Joy
Maarten was a wonderful host. He quickly replied to all of my emails/messages and provided me great information upon arriving. The village "Acoude" was perfect, you are able to ride a bike or take a walk into the village, he shared with us a couple of running paths and shared some history of the mill itself. We arrived to relax, check out Keukenhof (25 min away) and check out Clara Maria (15 min away) and it was great. Lots of space for our children, there are three bedrooms, a full kitchen with refrigerator. The kitchen was beautiful and cozy, it consisted of all the basics to cook with there and more. Internet was great and the windmill itself was beautiful. We are hoping to come back sometime again. Thank you again Maarten!
About the Host, Maarten
