Ever wondered what life of a miller would be like?
Come and see, experience and enjoy the peace and beauty of the countryside so close to Amsterdam.
no smoking, nothing special further.
We were really looking forward to this experience and were not disappointed. Marten replied very quickly when we contacted him about our arrival and met us with a warm welcome. As you can imagine, this is not your everyday accommodations and he gave us a tour of the facilities as well as the history of the windmill. It is in such a lovely area of the countryside; yet only a 10 minute ride to the train station and then 25 minutes into Amsterdam Centrum.
Amazing place to stay, we wished we could have had longer. Made to feel so welcome & Maarten always on hand if we needed anything. Peaceful surroundings, an easy walk/bike to the local town and great links to Amsterdam. It was definitely the best of both worlds - staying at the beautiful windmill meant we could relax in the countryside while still being able to pack in all things touristy. We'll never forget the wonderful windmill - fingers crossed we can book in again one day.
Supergemütliche Unterkunft. Wir haben uns dort sehr wohl gefühlt. Sehr gut gelegen um Ausflüge zu machen. Wir kommen wieder einmal in die Mühle. Eveline, René, Sarah, Jerôme und Joy
Maarten was a wonderful host. He quickly replied to all of my emails/messages and provided me great information upon arriving. The village "Acoude" was perfect, you are able to ride a bike or take a walk into the village, he shared with us a couple of running paths and shared some history of the mill itself. We arrived to relax, check out Keukenhof (25 min away) and check out Clara Maria (15 min away) and it was great. Lots of space for our children, there are three bedrooms, a full kitchen with refrigerator. The kitchen was beautiful and cozy, it consisted of all the basics to cook with there and more. Internet was great and the windmill itself was beautiful. We are hoping to come back sometime again. Thank you again Maarten!
The windmill is even better than the pictures! Six of us shared a great 3 nights here and only wish we had longer to enjoy it. Bedrooms are incredibly comfy and Maarten is a great host with a good sense of humour.
We loved checking out the inner workings of the mill and the surrounding countryside.
Looking forward to the next time!
Maarten was fantastic and went far beyond what was necessary to make our (family of 6) visit as pleasant as possible. He drove us from the train station to the windmill, and even gave a short tour of Abcoude on the way. I mentioned that I am a big soccer fan and he offered to purchase tickets for us and brought his family along to the Ajax game as well.
They have done a remarkable job renovating the windmill. The bedrooms are spacious and the beds very comfortable. It is a very unique and special experience staying there! The bikes are like new and provided easy transport to the train station.
Definitely recommend staying here if you are looking for a unique Dutch experience. Our only regret is not having time to get to know Maarten and his family better.
About the Host, Maarten
Homemade cheese, youghurt and butter and of course milk: straight from the cows. Open on thur/fri/sat 9-5
For coffee/tea and homemade farm products, great to sit outside. Catering available.
The great city to enjoy, just sit on a terrace along one of the canals after visiting the Rijksmuseum (Rembrand! and many more)
15 minutes by car or 20 minutes by train)
