Sunnyside- Queens, lovely and very safe neighborhood close to Manhattan (3 stops to Bloomingdale's shopping area and 4 stops to Central Park- 5th Avenue, Apple Store), 20' from Grand Central Station and also direct line to Times Square (30') and airports or port by metro train and buses. If driving, street safe parking. Elevator, 4th floor, sunsets and city skyline. Downstairs is a 30 years old bakery where you can find coffee and spinach pie, strudel, etc starting with 6 am or a pizzeria until 1 am, while in the vicinity, lots of ethnic restaurants/take-outs, all fresh and affordable, including ones open 24/7. Public transp. is max. two blocks away (#7 local train, bus Q32 and Q60 for Manhattan, B24 to Greenpoint Avenue and Williamsburg in Brooklyn, by the entrance of my building). My location is two blocks south from Queens Blvd ( and subway entrance), on 40th Street at intersection with Greenpoint Avenue. The room is private, tucked away along an L shaped hallway and near the bathroom. TV has only local stations( about 40) and Wi-Fi is fast. You can borrow lots of DVD-s for your room. The kitchen is small but can accommodate light cooking. Your room has an ironing board with iron, steamer, hair dryer, city guides, extra towels/bedding, a small closet and few drawers for storage. Building is very clean and located only two blocks from the number 7 subway (stop 40th Street/ Lowery). Free access to a land-line phone, a bike and the Bronx Botanical Garden.
When home, I live quietly in the other room, we share the common space and I clean the apartment almost every day. You can find in the morning oatmeal and coffee/tea made for you.(You'll never have to wait or rush for me, I'll shower only when you're out.)
I like a person that's friendly, easy-going and responsible. I'm here to help you make the most from your visit and not interfere otherwise.
I had a very good time. Iulia is very friendly, caring and really helpful. She gives recommendations where and how to go to the hot spots and other places as well as what to avoid or what you should better not do. The room was spacious and the bed very comfortable. TV and Wifi are available. Bathroom very clean. The building is rather old, as many other in the neighborhood. Bakeries and restaurants are in 3-5 minutes walking distance. The subway station (train 7) is about 5-7 minutes away and it is very convenient to get to Manhattan. I enjoyed staying with Iulia and can really recommend Iulia as a great host.
I had a lovely time at Iulia's. Really friendly and caring hosts. The bed was comfortable, the room was spacious and private, and everything was nicely provided for. The neighborhood seemed perfectly safe. The subway is just 2 blocks away and it is very convenient by the 7 train to get to Manhattan and Brooklyn. There is a great bakery next door too. All in all a wonderful experience!
Well located. Nice bakery , laundromat and eateries nearby. Lowery Street subway station is a five minute / two block walk away. Old but safe building. Nice view of Manhattan from bedroom window.
That was really comfortable staying - we felt ourselves home! Perfect location (two blocks from the 40th st.subway station), comfortable and clean room. Thank you very much, Julia!
Amazingly convenient, comfortable, clean, easy place to stay. It was our first time with airbnb, and I was a little apprehensive. Would it be safe? No worries there. Iulia is a lovely, friendly, relaxed person with a safe, clean, well-locked apartment in a safe family building in a safe neighborhood. I was there with my teenage daughter and felt comfortable and secure the whole time. I was also worried about whether Iulia would be a "mother hen," intruding upon our privacy or wanting to be too chummy. Again, no worries. She obviously understood that different people will want different amounts of contact, and she let us determine it. If we wanted, we could barely have seen her or spoken to her at all. As it happened, she was so much fun to talk with, and had so many good suggestions, that we DID wind up getting to know her, but it was clearly at our option. She never knocked on our door or acted like we owed her conversation. I never even saw her in our little hallway or bathroom.
Another concern I had was whether we could control the temperature. I like it cool at night. As it turned out we had a nice new air conditioner that cooled the room perfectly. There's also a big screened window we could open instead, which we did on cool nights, and it's safe because it's on the 4th floor. You can see the NY skyline out the window.
One of the coolest things was the location. We had initially wanted a place in Manhattan. Hotels were ridiculously priced for tiny, moldy, cramped rooms. What we found with Iulia's was that it was every bit as convenient as Manhattan, due to the fact that it's only three blocks from the subway, and the line is a direct route to Times Square that only takes about 10 minutes. You can literally leave home and be in Times Square in 15 minutes, changing trains to all over the city from there.
If you are a stickler for the empty surfaces and minimalism of hotel life, you would be better in a hotel. Here, Iulia's bookshelves are full of interesting books, and there are DVD's and personal possessions and decorations. It can't be mentioned enough, though, that the place was immaculately clean. In the bathroom are a wide range of lovely soaps, shampoos and other nice quality products you can use. She supplies a lot of conveniences that save money on the little things: coffee, tea, hot chocolate, crackers, candies, sewing kit to name but a few of the things we used. Plenty of space in the fridge, ice made from filtered water.
The bed is a wonderful tempurpedic with a big selection of comfy pillows of different sizes, including tempurpedic ones, and high quality fresh, clean linens.
In summary, we loved staying here and will refer all our friends! Thank you, Iulia for a wonderful week!
Julia is one of the best hosts! This is my third time I stayed with her and every time has been wonderful!
It was a pleasure to stay with Lulia! She is a gracious host and was very kind/easy to work with. She was prompt in her communications, very friendly and we had everything we needed! Thanks to her. We would love to stay with her again!
Iluia was a great host. Very friendly and made me feel like home. She also went through the trouble of showing me how to get around the city and to my interview location. Very recommended for any traveler who wants somewhere quiet, clean, and cozy to stay at.
Lulia was an amazing host! My bus got delayed by over an hour and we arrived in NYC past 11pm at night. Throughout the day she was responsive and extremely nice about us arriving late. We arrived at her apartment past midnight and she graciously welcomed us and showed us around.
The apartment was exactly what was shown in the pictures and the bed was comfortable too! Her house was extremely clean and close to the subway. She provided us with water, coffee, biscuits and sweets in the room and never failed to offer us some tea/coffee in the morning when we saw her.
All in all, an amazing host! And I would definitely come back again!
Great experience, Iulia was super nice to us, she received us with coffee and cookies, and helped a lot to get the best of our NY tours. Accomodation is as we saw on photos, very confortable, very well conected to city through underground, only a bit messy with too many things arround the room. Bath, beds, linen and towels were vey clean. Would come again definetly.
