The space
This beautiful, tastefully decorated flat will immediately make you feel at home. We've added many personal touches to create a warm, cozy, relaxing atmosphere - great books, art on the walls, and a few antiques (1930's Native American bow with arrows is our favorite).
The property is ideally located close to all amenities of downtown and within a short 5 min drive (or nice 20-30 minutes walk) to LANL. Great restaurants, coffee shops, museums, live music, an intricate network of trails - all are within a few minutes of walking!
The kitchen comes fully stocked for the real chef. It is complete with full-sized refrigerator, stove/oven, microwave, coffee maker, toaster, mixer, food processor, blender, rice cooker, pots, pans, dishes, containers, mugs, wine glasses, utensils, etc. Our guests often leave extra food, feel free to use whatever inspires you, but please check the expiration date.
The master bedroom has a King size bed with the comfortable posturepedic memory foam mattress, the second bedroom has a twin day bed with a second twin mattress on a trundle that slides out from underneath. The second bedroom has a desk. Bed linens, duvet covers, and towels are provided. In the closet you will find extra towels, sheets, blankets, and pillows.
There are two bathrooms in the unit. One has a shower and is connected to the Master bedroom, another bathroom has a bathtub. Enjoy a deep bathtub and a never-ending supply of hot water coming from the main water heater of the building!
A compact Washer/Dryer is located in the unit. In addition, there is a coin operated laundry room on the ground floor of the building (never underestimate the fun of meeting interesting locals there :) ).
PLEASE NOTE, that the condo is on the 2nd floor (not counting the ground floor). There is no elevator in the building.
WE CARE about our guests with sensitivities, and only use fragrance free, dermatologists and pediatricians recommended laundry detergent for all bedding and towels.
The condo is equipped with air conditioner to keep you comfortable on hot summer days and a balcony with a grill, and two comfy chairs to enjoy your morning coffee, a glass of wine, or watch our beautiful sunsets.
The condo has one assigned covered parking space on the ground floor of the building. Most of the units in the buildings are occupied by LANL employees and their families, offering a safe, family friendly environment.
The location of the condo is one of the best in town. It is within a 5-10 min drive from LANL (5 min to LANL Ottowi building), a 2-3 min drive to the Smiths grocery store, a 3 minute drive to the YMCA, a 1 min drive to the Urgent Care (great facility, but hopefully you'll never have to use it!), a 1 min drive to the hospital, a 2 minute drive (or 6 min walk) to the Aquatic center with an Olympic sized indoor swimming pool.
The closest trails to the condo are the trails in the Acid canyon behind the swimming pool and the nature center (6 minutes walking). Despite the name, which probably bears some historical significance, Acid canyon trails are local favorites, especially in summer. Be prepared to spend a few hours exploring them, and carry a bear spray with you, as locals are not the only ones enjoying trails. Wild life is abundant here in Los Alamos!

Master bedroom has a large walk-in closet. The second bedroom is compact and ideal for a single adult, child, or as a home office. It doesn't have a closet.
The dryer is equipped with the indoor filtered exhaust. It doesn't produce any dust or smell when operating. We also have retractable clotheslines set up on the balcony. Standard washers and dryers are located in the laundry room at the ground floor of the building ($1 for washers, 25c for dryers).
Whenever possible we are always happy to accommodate late check-outs and early check-ins, but unfortunately can not guarantee them ahead of time. Guests are welcome to bring their belongings any time after 11 AM, check-in is at 4 PM. We often allow late check-out for the people with little kids who need to stay for a few more hours, but since we usually have guests checking in on the same day, please clean up after yourself and collect all your belongings outside by 11 AM, when a cleaning service arrives.
For TV we have Internet Sling TV with 30 cable channels. More channels including HBO can be provided for an additional fee. We also have Roku, which allows you to watch your favorite shows from your accounts with Netflix, HBOGO, AmazonPrime, HULU, etc.
OUTDOOR SAFETY
Remember your sunscreen and water, especially in summer! Dehydration and sunburns happen fast here. When enjoying outdoors, please watch out for the wildlife. Los Alamos is often visited by mountain lions, bears, coyotes and deer. Rattle snakes are common in the area as well.
Bears are the frequent visitors in town and they seem to love our trails as much as we do. Please keep an eye on your children and pets playing outside. Be especially aware of the mothers with cubs. The bear attacks that happened in the area were caused by the mother bears protecting their cubs. Pepper/bear spray is highly recommended.
FAQs
Will LANL pay for my stay at your property?
Our guests have never had any problems with that. For reimbursement our guests submit to LANL a signed receipt of their payment and a short term lease agreement. For new hires, LANL compensates 60 days of lodging expenses for staff members, and 30 days for postdocs.
Can I bike to LANL from condo?
Yes! It takes about 11 minutes to bike to LANL Otowi building (where the badge office is) from the condo.
How close is the bus stop? Can I make it to LANL on a bus?
The bus stops are within a few minutes walking distance from the condo. To take a bus to the lab, walk 6 min to the bus stop by the library. A bus stop for the buses to Santa Fe is there as well. Generally, all bus stops in town are located within 5 - 10 minutes of walking from any residence. The bus will take you to the transit center near the entrance to LANL area. From there you can walk, bike, or use the free LANL taxi (667-taxi) to get to the building you need.
How safe is the neighborhood of condo?
Los Alamos is a safe town and our crime rate is very low, all of the neighborhoods are normally safe. Condo is located in the area, where most of the residents are LANL employees and their families. But in the unlikely case you'll need it, a police department is 1 min driving away.
How often do you wash your bath mats, bath robes and duvet covers?
We always wash them between guests. Being from Europe, we couldn't resist bringing the European tradition of duvet covers to our rentals. In Europe they are used in place of flat sheets, and we think they are much more comfortable and hygienic. We hope you will like them as well! All extra duvet covers, pillows in pillowcases, and bed linens that you will find in a closet are clean. We ask you to please let us know if you have used any of them, so that we can wash them.
