Completed August 2017...Our 100 year old sharecropper house is completely restored on its original location on a working farm sitting among 11 other guest houses in historic Mound City, Arkansas. Pastoral, shady setting on the closest farm to downtown Memphis, this house faces the levee on a gated private road 7 minutes from downtown. Our 500 acre farm is a paradise for pet owners wanting plenty of space to enjoy off leash. View other farmhouses by clicking our profile (Emily and Charlie)

The space
This house is located on a working farm! There are four 100 year old sharecropper homes, three of which are listed on Airbnb. We also have two new homes designed in a similar style listed on Airbnb. All are located on a private road facing the Mississippi River levee. Mound City was named by the early settlers for the Indian Mounds located on this property. It was an important river town for east - west trade during the late 1700s and 1800s. Mound City was burned by federal troops in 1863, but remained an important trading town until the Harahan bridge was finished in 1892. The Harahan Bridge now accommodates a spectacular pedestrian and bicycle crossing connecting Arkansas and Tennessee, and is easily accessible from the house.
The old commissary at Mound City was featured as a honky-tonk in scenes of the movie “Great Balls of Fire”, featuring Dennis Quaid as Jerry Lee Lewis. It is located 200 yards from the house, and is being restored.

Guest access
The house is on 500 acres, with miles of private well-maintained dirt roads. Our guests are welcome to walk, jog or bicycle these roads when they are dry. Our dogs love long walks and get much-needed exercise on this farm! The local retriever trainers use the lake across the road and just south of the house to train their Labrador, Chesapeake and Golden retrievers.

Other things to note

Traveling from Memphis, Mound City is the first exit in Arkansas off the I -40 bridge and Exit 3A off the I -55 bridge. This is the closest working farm headquarters to downtown Memphis. Mound City is named for the Indian Mounds on which the original town was built. One large mound remains next to the commissary.
