Surfs Up...Heads Up!

Before you go further or register to book, know that our Hanalei property is located in a tsunami evacuation zone.

In case of tsunami or any other natural disaster here are the steps in seeking higher ground.

--Hurricane or Tsunami Evacuation Plan and Route--

FROM: Rainbow House : (5278 Malolo Place, Hanalei, HI 96714)
TO: Princeville/Hanalei Fire Station (5-4390 Kuhio Hwy, Princeville, HI 96722)

Know that there is a monthly testing of the statewide outdoor warning siren system which is done in conjunction with a test of the live audio broadcast segment of the emergency alert system at 11:45 a.m. on the first county/state government workday of the month.

If you hear the siren at any other time than the first workday of the month and siren keeps sounding please tune into your radio for further information.

For tsunami and hurricanes, present weather science allows us several hours of warning.

Place necessary possessions in your car and drive out Malolo Place to Malolo Road and take a left to Kuhio Hwy (#560). On Kuhio Highway take another left East.

Keep driving east until you cross the Hanalei River Bridge and gain the bluffs of Princeville and you get to the Hanalei/Princeville Fire Station where you can get further information.

In case of hurricane you may want to find accommodations further from the beach and bay or seek a Red Cross Shelter.

--------

Rainbow House is built in the old style of "board and batten" and on stilts; graced with high ceilings to keep the days cool.

The Rainbow House is located on the second level above parking, laundry and storage room.

You'll find ceiling fans in every room as well.

Old fashioned double hung windows are found throughout and will keep the hottest day at bay, as well as offer great views from most rooms.

Lanai of the Rainbow House from the perspective of a hammock looking into the mountains Back porch of the Rainbow House overlooking the back lawn

The panorama from the spacious lanai, kitchen, and dining room offers some exquisite views of waterfalls cascading in the distance. The tiled lanai has a bench, hammock, chairs, and a lazy rocking chair where you can spend the day counting waterfalls. The screened back porch has a table and chairs and a delightful view of the garden.

The dining and living area boasts a big dining room table with chairs and two comfortable couches. Both areas are great to linger and to lounge. A DVD player and small inventory of Videos are there to entertain.

High speed internet provided.

To adjust you to the island pace and way of life, we have eliminated land line telephone and Cable TV.

Custom kitchen cabinetry with a counter of blue tile work encloses a refrigerator, dishwasher, microwave, garbage disposal, and a vented four burner stove and oven. The kitchen is well supplied with all the essentials necessary to easily cook and dine.

Includes towels and linens (organic percale sheets).

Multicolored bright tinted plastered walls with arches and custom motifs have ceramic wall sconces highlighting Brazilian red cherry floors in every room. Each bedroom is tastefully well appointed with a queen sized bed, closet, curtains, and linens.

Master bathroom with pedestal sink and shower

Two bathrooms are colorfully tiled with contrasting pedestal sinks and showers. One bathroom has a old fashioned claw tub which is especially useful for a "soak " after a day of hiking or surfing.

Below, on the first floor is the entrance leading into a small foyer with a private entrance leading to a tiled laundry area equipped with a washer and dryer; this laundry areas is shared with the occupants of the nearby Garden Cottage vacation rental which is nestled and landscaped on the NW corner of the property.

This is a working neighborhood. Not everybody is on vacation.

Many of your neighbors are “early to bed and early to rise”.

Noise travels well and far in our small cul-de-sac.

Please try to be conscious, considerate, and courteous of your
neighbors and keep the noise down of radios, TV, stereos,
especially during any gatherings that extend past 9:00 p.m.

My work: Head Guide at Kayak Kauai.
Speaks Spanish
Born in Cuba at an early age and have spent most of my life in these tropic latitudes. e.g. Cuba, Puerto Rico, Hawaii and somehow floated up to Alaska. I grew up in Puerto Rico where I learned to surf and how and the why I ended up in Hanalei. In 1984 started Kayak Kauai with my brother and so have been lucky to have a foot in the water in every respect. See you on the trail or in the water. Aloha y Saludos, Micco (alias Miguel)
