- The dining table is large. Or dine on the 300 square foot screened-in porch (no pesky flies ruining your BBQ), while watching for the occasional deer, coyote, or aoudad. There are many bird species as well, such as road runners, quail, hawks, orioles, indigo buntings, stellar jays and owls.

- The great room offers comfortable seating, and a KING bed near the bathroom. There are many board games and puzzles for adults and children. There is a smart TV with Netflix. We also have an interesting selection of books about the area.

- A spiral staircase accesses the loft bedroom which features two beds (a single and a double).

Guest access
Guests have the entire cabin centered on over 6 secluded acres of peace and quiet all to themselves. There is only one other cabin (The Hideout at Palo Duro Canyon - Rider’s Roost, which sleeps 4), on the 6.5 acre property. There are beautiful horses and two goats, Danny Boy and Fern, grazing the property. All this privacy, yet the State Park which offers hiking and mountain biking nirvana, and Palo Duro Riding Stables are all less than two miles away! And don’t forget the musical drama TEXAS which shows in the park’s outdoor amphitheater June through mid-August.
Bar Z Winery is also near by.
It’s a 30 minute drive to Amarillo, home of the famous Route 66, the Cadillac Ranch, The Big Texan Steak Ranch, the Amarillo Center for the Performing Arts, Amarillo Botanical Gardens, the American Quarter Horse Museum and the 6th street antique mall.

We as hosts and owners of the property will frequently be on the property tending to the animals, watering trees, perhaps cleaning the other cabin on the property. We will respect your privacy.

Other things to note
Due to the fact there are horses on the property, it is imperative that guests keep the entrance gate closed at all times when entering or exiting the property.

Our horses graze on our neighbor’s property. However guests are not allowed to access neighboring properties and must remain within the 6.5 fenced acres of this property. Please be sure all members in your party are aware of this.

While our horses are very friendly, DO NOT FEED THEM. They are rescue horses , with medical issues such as worn teeth, chewing difficulties, high risk of choke, and metabolic disorders requiring specialized diets. Thanks!

All activities on the property are subject to the Equine Inherent Risk Law. By renting the property you have indicated that by your presence on the grounds you have accepted the limits of liability resulting from inherent risks of equine activities under Texas Law.
Please note, it is against the law in the state of Texas to kill wild animals, including snakes on private property without owners consent.
There are snakes of all species on the property. We do not allow guests to kill any animals on the property.

Please note ONLY the number of guests booked can be on the property. This means no additional visitors. Meet with your friends at a restaurant or other public place. We do not have the septic, parking, or insurance for anyone other than the 4 (or less), in your party.

We do not accept 3rd party bookings as this is against Airbnb policy.

No smoking or vaping is allowed inside the cabin or elsewhere on the property due to high fire danger in our area. We do allow smoking/ vaping on the screened porch where we provide a cigarette disposal receptacle.

We do not recommend this rental for children under 12. Due to there being a pond, the occasional snake, wild animals roaming through to drink at the pond, and free roaming horses, parents are required to supervise children at all times. Also, the home is decorated with antiques and may not be suitable for some families. We do not allow use of the wood burning stove to guests with children and pets.

The property is a no drone zone. Use of drones is expressly prohibited. Drones frighten wildlife and could cause our horses to run through fences.

We will not ship forgotten items to you! Double check the cabin before you leave and make sure you haven’t forgotten anything.

Swimming in the pond is prohibited.

Lastly, this property is subject to HOA rules and regulations. Therefore, no parties, events.

Failure to follow property policies could result in additional cost to guests and/or early check out.

Neighborhood highlights

The cabin is located approximately 1.5 miles from the entrance to Palo Duro Canyon State Park.

During the summer months TEXAS Musical Drama shows at the park's outdoor amphitheater.

Palo Duro Riding Stables is just a stone throw from The Hideout. They’ve been around since 1962 and some of their horses are 3rd generation trail horses. Jesse and Kristen Sorenson really know their business! We highly recommend them!

Creek House Honey Farm is a great first stop on the way into the town of Canyon for lunch, or a great last stop on the way back to your cabin for a drink!

Bar Z Winery is also very close by.

We have great restaurants on the town square, such as Joe Taco's, Sayakamaryns, and Palace Coffee. Feldman’s family diner is also in town, as is Pepitos Mexican Restaurant.

The city of Amarillo is a 30 minute drive from the cabin, and has a wide variety of arts, entertainment, sporting events and restaurants. It’s home of The Big Texan Steak Ranch, home of the 72 ounce steak! Also visit the American Quarter Horse Museum!
