Private, Tranquil, Rustic Cabin 20 minutes from Baker City, nestled in the foothills of the Elkhorn Mountains. Ready for a bit of adventure? Outgoing plumbing only (no running water). Bucket your washing and flushing water from the creek off of the back deck which runs most of the year. Pets are welcome but please notify host. Sleeps 4 (1 bed, 1 futon), pricing is for 2.

No internet, TV service or Freezer. Cell service may be sketchy.

4 wheel drive for winter access December through March.

The space
The Enchanting A-Frame is private outside of 2 neighboring cabins, one may be visited with dogs and the other is a full-year resident with one little old french bulldog "French Fry" and her sweet Rottweiler friend "Tess" that may come around for a visit.

This 900 square foot cabin is rustic, not all conveniences, but very comfortable, like camping but much better, safer, warmer, drier .... some cabin dust, a few bugs & an occasional mouse to be expected.

Being an A-Frame, the upstairs bedroom/loft is much warmer than downstairs, especially in the winter. There are fans on both levels to encourage circulation of heat from the propane vent-less heater.

The bathroom is small and tight quarters and can be a bit of a challenge. The shower is also on the small side and is a camp shower ( with water heated from the stove). The spiral staircase is narrow and steep with a minimal handrail.

A stone fireplace provides additional comfort during the colder and wetter seasons so bring lots of firewood to add to the starter stock provided. (No fires of any kind however during wildfire season, generally July - September.)

Light breakfast foods, coffee, tea and hot chocolate are available for guests to enjoy. The kitchen is stocked with all basics, plates, glasses, utensils, pots and pans etc.

Four wheel drive and traction tires are highly recommended in the winter months, generally December through March.

The cabin is tucked away off of a gravel road. It is located at the base of the Elkhorn Mountains and is surrounded by tall evergreens and two neighboring cabins. The homes below the cabin sit on 5 plus acres of rural living. Deer and wild turkeys frequently visit our yards and fields. Above the cabin is a county road but mostly private property. Some helicopter logging may be in operation and might be noisier than expected at times.

My husband and I love Eastern Oregon and all that this beautiful area has to offer. The Mountains, the wildlife and the lifestyle available to us. We enjoy the many benefits of living in a small agricultural community.

I (Betty) lived in the Enchanting A-Frame for 7 years after taking a year and a half break leaving my fast paced and over committed world of work behind in order to relax, regroup and to travel to several countries and explore many more local areas.

The water situation was challenging, but I became quite comfortable with it. I love the serenity and charm of the cabin (which was transformed by a local contractor, Tom, who later became my husband). After getting married and building our home, the cabin was no longer being utilized except on occasion. We were encouraged by many to open it up to guests, sharing this special, unusual getaway.

During your stay

Sometimes we meet guests at check-in to introduce the cabin and it's quirks. Otherwise and usually, a code will be provided for the combination lock on the back door and the cabin summary is printed and on the table for guests reference. We are available by phone (texting and voice) and live just down the road if needed for any reason by guests of the cabin.
