The Forest Cottage is a little cottage that thinks it's big enough for full-sized furniture, a huge shower and a king-sized bed. This is the consummate couples retreat. Embedded in a cedar forest, this tiny house offers your destination for a second honeymoon or for a time to kick back and relax.

Going to Magnolia? You'll come home tired. This cottage is ready to pamper you and help you get ready for another day at it tomorrow. Your view is out an 8' window overlooking a deck and forest.

The space

Bring some steaks or chicken and sides if you like to grill out. Your deck is private and is lit until 9:30 each night. Or, let us know and we can turn off the landscape lights in trade for some candles.

Inside, the lights are on dimmers so you can turn it up and read or, turn them down or off for a more subdued atmosphere. Your choice.

Your cottage comes with an iPod with just about every genre of music you can think of through an app called Pandora. So, whatever your mood, enhance it with the music of your choice.

You will be close to Magnolia and Baylor (about 13 minutes) and everything else downtown Waco has to offer. For a slower pace, you're about 2 minutes away from Homestead Heritage and their number-one-rated restaurant, Cafe Homestead. They now serve breakfast Monday through Saturday. Don't just eat though. There is a lot to see and do so allow some time to walk around. Their newest shop is the Basket shop where you can see beautiful baskets or sign up to make one yourself.

THE KITCHEN
It's actually what I would call a "kitchenette." You have a microwave, a two-slice toaster, a single cup coffee maker with a variety of coffees and teas, dishes and a separate sink. If you really want to cook, remember the gas grill on the deck.

Guest access

The photos attempt to show you the house and the deck. We have some chickens in movable cages (called "chicken tractors") located in between the rows of blackberries.

Interaction with guests

We hope we can meet you when you get here so we can greet you and answer any questions you might have. We mean for you to have fresh pastries every morning but they will be in your refrigerator so you can get up and eat when you want. You're on YOUR schedule here. (Except checkout time. If we have someone coming in the day you are leaving, it takes all the time we have to get things pristine again. Hope you understand.)

Except for when you arrive, you probably won't see us unless we happen to cross paths in the parking area. Or, if you need something we can help with. You'll have my cell number when you get here. Please use it if you need anything.

Other things to note

Your water heater is a tankless (never-ending) style so, if you're the type who likes to take (l o n g) showers, you will be in Heaven.

We have WiFi that varies from blazing fast to not so great. I've been told we don't have control of that.

There is no TV.

This little cottage is a little piece of heaven. A place where you can go for some peace and quiet and enjoy nature. We had cardinals and hummingbirds and pigeons and squirrels greet us every morning through our window. The cottage was perfect for two people and it was decorated so lovely and was very clean. The bed was very comfortable. We slept great each night. I would highly recommend this place to anyone coming to Waco. And it was close to the magnolia silos and to other attractions.

I booked our 3-night stay at the Forest Cottage on a whim. My wife and I were traveling to Waco for a wedding, and at the last minute our existing plans fell through. Honestly, it changed our trip so much for the better because of what we found at this little retreat in the country. Doug and Donna are a powerhouse hosting team - Doug seems attentive to the functionality of the space (everything you could ever need is built into this little cottage) and the overall aesthetic of the property (the vine-covered walkway leading you to this cottage is straight up magical), and Donna tends to all of the comfortable details (like the mountain of pillows on the king-sized bed, the treats waiting for you in the fridge, and the handmade soaps that they encourage you to take home with you). We paid little attention to the location of the cottage prior to booking, but honestly loved the rural and relaxed vibe. We live in a suburban city and found this change of pace so refreshing. I imagine most of the visitors coming to Waco have intentions of visiting Magnolia Market, and it's only a 15-minute drive away. As an added bonus, you're only about 2 minutes from the highest rated restaurant we came across in Waco - Cafe Homestead - and it was crazy good. Obviously, we loved our stay and absolutely plan to return. Book now and enjoy your time in the generous care of Doug & Donna at the Forest Cottage!

Thank you Doug & Donna. You thought of every detail down to the black chalkboard welcome, personal card, Homestead Heritage pastry, decor accents, wood barn door, and especially the large picture window set with feeders. The cardinals and hummingbirds were the stars of the show. Thank you!

My husband and I found this gem on our way to booking an anniversary trip to Waco, TX. Magnolia was only a 10-minute drive away, and we wanted to have a quiet, charming place to unplug and reboot before our new jobs started. We were pleasantly surprised with how charming and modern the cottage truly was. Doug really thought of everything that we could've wanted or needed to enjoy our stay - pastries in the fridge, handmade soap, and even a sliding barn door leading to our rain shower! I loved all of the ways we were able to find rest and relaxation, and Doug was entirely open to answering any questions that we had. I have already told all of my friends about this place, and I hope that the Forest Cottage continues to offer numerous visitors the joy it gave us.

This little cabin was amazing. It is very clean, comfortable and looks adorable! Everything is well maintained and managed, and Doug has thought of everything to make his guests feel comfortable and welcome. I especially loved the rain shower shower head, the cinnamon rolls and the deck and the sense of humor (and honesty) in his airbnb post description. The deck was so beautiful and the birds were fun to watch! It is close enough to town for outings but away from all the hustle. They were very generous in allowing us a late check in and check out. I highly recommend this lovely rental!

Donna and I have been happily married for over 45 years and it seems like it just keeps getting better and better. She's a homemaker and my day job is as a web designer. We have three grown kids that all live within a couple of miles.

We've just started in the vacation rental business and it keeps both of us hoping to get more landscaping done now that we've finished the cottages. It's a supplement to our retirement but the real pay from owning these vacation rentals is reading your comments and feedback in the Guestbook. The guests we have had have all been absolutely wonderful.

We had another company managing the property until recently but decided to take it back because we felt distanced from everything except washing sheets and towels. So, as mentioned elsewhere, we will protect your privacy but we want to at least meet you--even if it is just to say, "You're Welcome Here."
