Relax + soak in the gorgeous rice paddy views + traditional Balinese village life from this lovely house located just outside of central Ubud. You have the comforts of a modern home but can see the nature and beauty all around you from the balcony.
Nestled amidst the green hills of Ubud in lush natural surroundings, “Kubu Rama” is a place of comfort and relaxation. The villa is blessed with an unobstructed view of the rice fields, Balinese temple and jungle from its breezy balcony, where you can enjoy the sunset and watch the famous white heron birds fly past on their route home to nest. If you are lucky you can also see the resplendent blue Javan Kingfisher fly by. Night time brings a chorus of nature sounds from the paddy fields and the magical glow of the fireflies. On festival days you can hear the sounds of Gamelan music and chanting echoing across the night from the nearby village.
Kubu Rama also offers a comfy living space. The house is equipped with high speed wi-fi internet, 29" inch TV and home theater system, parking space, wide balcony with incredible view, spacious garden and sun bathing area, air conditioner in the bedroom, full kitchen facilities, drinking water, linens provided, hot water with bathtub and rain shower heads in semi-open air bathroom. All this plus daily cleaning service by the wonderful Sutri and assistance from Kadek living off site nearby in the village, but able to help with anything should there be a need.
The villa is situated in a quiet setting down a small path and away from the main road, but in a spot where you can see Balinese cultural/natural life come to life in rice harvests, temple ceremonies, children flying kites, and duck herding, all from the comfort and privacy of home.
You have the house to yourself!
Kubu Rama is located in a traditional Balinese village setting just outside of central Ubud in the hamlet of Kutuh Kaja. There are several small restaurants within walking distance, a pool next door where you can swim all day for a very small fee (possibly a pool for the house later in 2015!), laundry place in walking distance, and the village also has several convenience shops. The Ubud Botanical Gardens is almost across the street. If you are lucky enough to be staying during a Balinese ceremony the streets and temples of the village will come alive with the colorful offerings, traditional costume and dance, and enchanting sounds of Gamelan music. Very lovely area.
It is about 7 minutes ride by vehicle to Ubud town center. Please note there is no public transportation just as in any of the small villages outside Ubud - so motorbike would be the best way to get to and from town and in general is the best way to get around and explore the Ubud area on your own - we can help to arrange rental, it is very inexpensive. We can also help to arrange very reasonably priced taxi service. Bicycle is also possible but recommended for the fit because of the tropical heat. Walking would take longer to reach town center - although it's a beautiful walk passing through rural scenery and you will witness Balinese village life along the way. We can help to arrange also airport pickup and day trips with polite and relaxed English speaking drivers.
Respect the peace, nature and culture in the area. Please smoke outside only.
Kuba Rama is a beautiful flat just moments outside of town and was exactly what I was looking for during my trip to Ubud. The check in was very smooth and Shakrs helper was very sweet and was available to let us in as soon as we arrived. We really enjoyed the outdoor shower as I have never tried this before. Your in a private garden and the sun is shining over head and there are beautiful flower! We also really enjoyed sitting on the front porch and looking at the rice fields and wildlife. A great stay and would highly recommend this property to anyone who wants to visit Ubud!
Wow, this place is really something else. We visit Ubud quite frequently and have stayed in lots of beautiful villas there but this is our favourite so far. We're not the type of travelers who tend to stay in the same place twice, but next time we're in Ubud this will be our first port of call. It's hard to pinpoint exactly what it is that makes it so special ... whether it's the flower filled open air bathroom set amongst a fruit forest, or the panoramic views onto lush green rice paddies filled with ducks and butterflies... then of course there's the casual parade of exotic birds and wildlife that bless you with their sacred presence throughout the day, followed by the symphony of frogs and dance of the fireflies that dazzle the senses by night. *Sigh!*
The villa had everything we needed and nothing we didn't, making it the perfect retreat. Probably not for you if you require a high level of personal attention/service or if an ant or gecko is going to be a cause for concern, but if you want to experience the real Bali and synchronise your soul with its ebbs and flow, I can think of no better place to do it than here.
Shakar is a knowledgeable and friendly host who responds very quickly to queries and is well connected with all the people you'll need to make your stay easy. The villa's location is far enough from town to be peaceful and authentic and yet close enough to be able to drop in during the day without having to think too much about the distance. Oh and did I mention there is both a coconut cafe and an organic restaurant just down the road?
Short story - this was an awesome stay. Highly recommended!
The host Shakar was not there to greet us, however the driver he sent to pick us up from the airport was very helpful and welcoming, as was Kadek who met us at the property soon after we arrived. Shakar checked in with us via email to make sure everything was going well.
The listing description was accurate and the house was immaculate and very comfortable. The bed was quite hard but not bad and the big day bed in the lounge room was perfect for relaxing. The internet worked fine and it was nice to have drinking water supplied.
The outdoor/open-air bathroom was one of the highlights of the house. We loved the outdoor shower!
The property is close to Ubud village (about 5 minutes drive), and we would recommend you rent a scooter (Kadek organised that for us) so that getting around is easy. Ubud village is a fun and interesting place with lots of options for activities. It was lovely to come home to our very peaceful and quiet home away from the hustle and bustle.
We really enjoyed our stay here!
Great hospitality by Shakar and Kadek. They help you with everything you need and want to know. Kubu Rama itself is a lovely place. You could sit all day long on the balcony and view the rice fields and listen to nature. Another highlight is the open air bath"room", it's a unique experience to shower under the stars and palm trees. There's lots of fascinating stuff to do in and around Ubud, so you probably want to rent a scooter or call the driver on the phone list that is provided. By that you are in the town center in no time. There is nothing to complain about. If you are in Ubud then Kubu Rama will prettify your experience.
The accomodation is beautiful here as the picture shows directly in the rice fields! The owner and manager are both fantastic and will help you with anything you need. The place is close to the Main Street, just need to walk directly down the road for around 20-25 minutes into Ubud. Some lovely restaurants directly outside the place about 1 min walk. Beautiful gardens!
It was a lovely peaceful place. We enjoyed the view, the
ducks, the sweet dog (outside guarding over us). Ubud is a lovely city and lots of stuff to discover.
In the house some things need to be fixed (shower and bath), so check if it has been done. As for the rest, I would recommend the place to you.

Hello and welcome to all those planning a trip to this beautiful village of Ubud. I have been living here already 10 years, and in that time I have also traveled extensively around the world. But I can honestly say that "home sweet home" is right here, surrounded by nature, art, and culture, on the island of Bali. And there is no better place to experience all this than right in the heartland of Ubud.
My life here is basically all about arts, culture, and nature. I enjoy taking part in many Balinese cultural ceremonies, and if you come and stay here you will be most welcome too, with traditional clothing to wear available to you. My house is close to the people in the village, but also in a very private setting with only jungle, rice paddy, garden around you. It's a simple and beautiful life.
If you come and stay at my place, I will also be happy to tell you all the good info about places to see around the island, amazing and delicious foods to eat, and whatever other insider knowledge I can offer to you. I love nature activities such as bird watching and exploring the undersea world, and I can let you know the best spots. But it may well be that you never want to leave the house because it is just so peaceful and delightful in these natural surroundings.
Looking forward to welcome you.
