The Space

Welcome to the ridge top! I hope you find your answers to all your questions in my listing, but if not, I welcome your message. Teak (our lab), Jaye (my partner) and I really look forward to meeting you. If the time you are looking for is booked or if you need two rooms, please check out our other room we have at: https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/562550

Top reasons people stay here (and come back):

1.) Best view of Santa Cruz Mountains ever, all around, everywhere you look.
2.) My obsession with birds has lead to many feeders, and lots of finches, turkeys, hummingbirds, and even a hawks nest. You cannot sit outside and not see a bird at any given time. Fights among the territorial hummingbirds, frisky finches flapping about and hundreds of beautiful bird calls will be constant entertainment.
3.) 90% of Santa Cruz hotels are pretty aged and expensive and in undesirable areas of town. My house is private and has a great vibe about it.
4.) There is a huge bocce court in the back yard, we have a nice pool table, and sometimes we have a ping pong table out. This bocce court is lit at night and an exciting way to enjoy a starry night. There is plenty to be occupied.
5.) There is a million things to do within a few miles. Beaches, zip lines in the redwoods at Mount Hermon, many parks with hiking, restaurants, Loch Lomond, wine tasting, horseback riding, restaurants, a museum, the mystery spot, antique shops, and much more. Born and raised here, I can give you guidance of cool stuff to see and do- Santa Cruz is so much more then a Boardwalk (although I do love a good roller coaster)!
6.) There is about 10 places on the property to sit and read a book or magazines. Have you ever read a book without an noise but the calls of birds singing? Take time to enjoy the solitude on the hill.
7.) If you like blooms, you'll like it here. It's a labor of love, as it is not easy (turns out deer, gophers, certain birds, turkeys, squirrels, chipmunks, etc love them as much as I do!) Word to wise: don't get me started on the topic, I can bore you with my "look at this flower" tour! But in all seriousness, there are some really awesome plants that I've found at local nurseries.
8.) My veggie garden is cray. Seriously. I produce the veggies for a local restaurant and I just love tinkering in the yard. I have a full and sustainable ecosystem that I can share with you if you like those things.
9.) I love wine. Borderline oenophile and I am a (very) amateur winemaker. I have been to nearly every winery in the SLV mountains and county of Santa Cruz. Name a grape and I will suggest a winery (FYI, Pinots and Chardonnay in Santa Cruz Mountains blows the socks off Napa at a fraction of the price)! I have passes for you to taste at some of my many favorite wineries at no charge.

There are two rooms listed on Airbnb, check out the other room on my profile! If this room is booked for the time you wanted, check the other listing, as it is less often booked (the other listing has a bigger bed for tall folks!).

This is for booking the bedroom with the teapots and the white bed. The view is really spectacular, you can wake up to see downtown Felton and deer, and fall asleep with the distant city lights of Scotts Valley.

The rooms we host in are the ones with the pinball machine, and the one with the pots on a shelf on the wall (see my other listing for the whole house or the pinball room).

Area:
15 minutes from UCSC. 20 minutes from Beach. 10 minutes from Henry Cowell State Park. Feel like your a thousand miles from anyone. This house is situated high on a hill, no neighbors to see. Yet just 5 minutes off highway 9. Outside of the Santa Cruz "fog belt," sunny most months of the year. Join us for Open Studios in October!

House:
Panoramic views of mountains, Scotts Valley, and Felton. 3 bedroom, 3 bath, 2600 sf. Ten acres. Gated driveway, house has state-of-the-art alarm (with outdoor video surveillance), for further ease of mind. Two huge decks for sunning, both with jaw dropping views of the mountains. Idyllic brick front porch with swing. Features full kitchen with nice appliances, two outdoor eating areas, two indoor dining areas, pool table with huge tv to keep up on games, TV with satellite in room, wireless internet. Sprawling lawns, various roses, heirloom tomatoes, even fresh organic eggs from my chickens. Parking is off street, and gated. Yoga room. Laundry. Pick up some take-out, and sit outside on the decks and enjoy the the outdoor speakers on both decks and all living areas.

Quality, new white linens. Queen bed. Beautiful views. Private and clean. Next to large and clean red bathroom. Dresser to place your things. 42" Hi-Def Sony TV with Dish Hopper service, view of woods, downtown Felton, CA, and Scotts Valley CA. Locally made "dancing pots" by respected artist. Normally I only have one extra room rented, meaning you would have exclusive use of the bath. However, I sometimes have friends or an addtional airbnb guest, and in those times the bathroom would be shared.

Sadly, we do not have a permit from the county to cook for you, so we cannot offer breakfast/meals.

TOT included in price (county Transient Occupancy Tax 11%).

Guest Access

A lot of land, pool table room, dining area, two huge decks, a nice kitchen, all the things that make our place unique!

Interaction with Guests

Up to you. We both work (someone has got to keep those bird feeders filled, lol), so sometimes we do not see guests much. Other times, we have made amazing friendships!

The Neighborhood

We are really in a great spot. It is residential, but we have a very very private area gated without a neighbor in sight. Despite the disconnected feeling you enjoy, we are minutes from a fabulous grocery store, restaurants, and state parks.

Getting around

You will want a car.

Other Things to Note

This place is all about the amenities, views, proximity to local places and gardens. I know you will feel totally relaxed and at home. Our friends who leave here realize the benefit of staying with us- we are a house that we love to live in. We work to make beautiful, it is not a "vacation rental".

Must love bees! I keep bees who work with me to make veggies. If you are allergic, not the place for you to stay. But do not worry, they are not a "spicy" hive. I work them and have only been stung once in a couple of years (the day I got them of course!)

  • The pictures just don't do this place justice. Celebrating our one year anniversary on the top of a Mountain overlooking the fireworks for 4th of July was just amazing .We couldn't have been more pleased with our experience at "Heaven on Earth" because it was just that. Thank you Justin and Jay for making our special day a perfect one!

  • We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Justin and Jay are fabulous hosts and their place is spectacular. Besides the welcoming hospitality we enjoyed the views, the many birds and beautiful flowers everywhere. The gardens are lovely and the bocce ball court challenged us. I would highly recommend this stay for anyone planning a trip to the Santa Cruz area.

  • First there are not enough stars for this experience on AIRB&B ************************************************************** So here’s the deal. I was looking for a quiet secluded place to have a special personal moment with someone special for the day. It was a mental health getaway to relax, unwind and talk. After an exhausting search and a lot of letdowns I stumbled on Justin’s place by accident. I contacted Justin with my unusual request and I must say that to my surprise there are still a few people in this world who truly care about fulfilling dreams!!!!!

I don’t have all the right words to tell you what a magical afternoon we had at Justin’s place that day. If there was another word above perfection that would be the word. I am a perfectionist by heart and I wanted everything to be perfect in every way for this day. Justin truly understood what I was trying to accomplish and on his own went out of your way to accommodate me. The place setting was perfect in every way shape and form… The view was spectacular and quiet. Yes Quiet!!! Something that we take for granted in this loud world of ours. Time just flew by but the memory and the experience that we had will last a lifetime. Way, way beyond any of my expectations.

If there was a moment in time that I could relive over and over again. This would be it…
Justin has done a fabulous job with truly accommodating his guests with his attention to detail, home and garden. This is a place that you have to experience to truly appreciate. I look forward to finding a way soon to do it again!!
If I had to sum it up it into 3 words it would be: PRICELESS…….. PRICELESS…….. PRICELESS……..
    Thank you is not enough...

  • If love is the only freedom of the world, then Justin's heaven on earth is the only world of freedom. We celebrated the 100th day of our son Promi with Justin, Jaye and every soulful creature in their shared paradise where purity meets diversity and happiness embraces peace. I also couldn't find any words to describe the fabulous taste of season from the artisan pizzas at Justin's restaurant whose topping ingredients are hand-plucked from Justin's hillside farm!

  • We really enjoyed our stay with Justin. His house and the view are amazing!
    Very nice hosts! :)

  • We had a wonderful time staying at Justin and Jay's beautiful home! Impressively, the gardens are every bit as stunning in person as they are in the photos! Justin and Jay had great recommendations for the area and went above and beyond to make us feel right at home. We enjoyed wine around the fire, soaking up the beautiful views while drinking our morning coffee and hearing Justin's tales of battling a rather persistent gopher population. ;-) We wouldn't change a thing!! Thanks again!

  • The name doesn't lie! Heaven on Earth is a gorgeous place, inside and out. Justin is a talented gardener and a helpful, fun, and welcoming host. We loved being there for our 3 night stay and only regret that we weren't able to spend more time. Highly recommended!

  • This was our second experience with Airbnb, and first where we interacted with our hosts. And it couldn't have been a better experience! (Well, at least until they figure out how to get a hot tub atop that hill.)
We actually live in the area, and just wanted to escape for a night. But we felt like we were a world away and it was just perfect. The views on all sides are gorgeous, especially waking up to see the fog down below roll in like a smooth white sea. Justin and Jay were super fun to chat with, and made us feel so comfortable and welcome.

  • A truly unique, enjoyable and beautiful space, creatively mixing modern with traditional. We stayed at Justin's for two nights, including New Year's Eve, where he made us feel very welcome. Excellent bedroom, big tv and huge bed, great facilities and amazing views! A place to play (pool table, pinball etc) or relax with a great sky view. Would stay again for longer next time.

About
Good day! My partner Jaye and our pup Teak look forward to meeting you. We grew up in Ben Lomond and Santa Cruz, and can point out a thousand things to do on your visit. We get along with everyone. Hobbies are house projects, running, food (local produce and heirloom vegetables), computers/electronics, hiking, restaurants, real estate, art appreciation, p90x (need to do more of this), happy hours/wine bars, campy holiday decorations, chicken watching (WAY cooler then a fish tank and you get eggs), museums, and meeting good people.
