Known as the John A. Kramer 1902 Historic Home, located in the Main St Historic District; we are a AirBnB Affliated Bed & Breakfast and licensed with Elizabeth City, NC. We are a short walk to the Harbor waterfront, downtown dining, shopping & exploring. Our front porch awaits with rockers & swings for morning contemplation's, book reading, afternoon resting and good old fashioned Porch Sitting in the evenings. We love meeting new people and telling them about our "Mayberry" type town.
I am originally from New York State, my husband is originally from Florida & we moved here to Elizabeth City, because of this Historic home, hopefully to retire early and that it was located right in between our North and South family's. The hospitality business world has always been in my blood, so when we discovered this home in 2002, how we felt looking at it and standing within its walls, instant Love! I knew that I wanted people who would stay with us to feel like invited family and not actual guests. To create a relaxed easy atmosphere to unwind and leave the stress behind. So in our reality, staying at the Inn means...Serving tea iced instead of hot, smelling fresh baked cookies, trying to decide which porch or patio to hangout on, hearing the gentle squeak of the porch swings and the rhythmic sound of rockers , Sitting on the front porch listening to the gentle rain and how it smells so clean, Listening to Cicadas and watching fireflies in the yard.
Our location is great in that we are 45 minutes from Norfolk VA International Airport (ORF) along with major shopping (if that is your desire) 60+ minutes by car to the Outer Banks (Ocean Water and Beach time fix) and a day trip to the National Seashore to Cape Hatteras and with that said, we are also far enough inland to be pretty safe from Hurricanes.
Northeast North Carolina is a coastal place, we are located on the Pasquotank River which flows into the Albemarle Sound, which connects to the Pamlico Sound, then to the Ocean. There are places here to bike ride, boat, paddle board, canoe, walk and hike. The sunrises on the riverfront here are breathtaking and remind us constantly of how to slow down and relax. We are also a designated US Coast Guard City and home to the largest East Coast Base. If you are a history buff, there is certainly plenty of it here in this region. Start with the Museum of the Albemarle, located downtown which services our 13 county region. The admission is free and the exhibits are incredible. Also located in the building is our local Tourism Center where brochures, maps, Historic Walking Tour Guides and other information can be obtained.
So come stay with us, life slows down here and become part of our growing family. We look forward to your arrival.
