Beautiful area

This home is in a scenic location.

Mountain view

Soak up the view during your stay.
Cozy, off-grid, solar-powered cabin with stunning forest views. Escape and reconnect! Hike, bike, ski, snowshoe, relax or photograph nature from the front door. Potable water is in 5-gal containers. 1 Queen, 1 full, 2 single bunks. 4 person max. Truck/AWD best until mid-April.
IMPORTANT-Once we have significant snowfall (normally in December and lasting until April), The last 1.5 miles to the cabin is traveled STRICTLY by hiking, snowshoes, ski or any tracked vehicle. Pet ok with fee.

The space
This is as "getaway" as it gets. Just stars and moonlight at night. If you have ever watched a show about a remote cabin in Alaska with zero grid connection, you have an idea of what we enjoy here.

If you need a reset from the daily grind, this is the place to relax. You can also fish in the nearby pond. Enjoy your meals on the covered deck with views of the beautiful forest. There are no standard 110V power outlets that are powered full time. Since we are off grid, if you need overnight power(CPAP) or full time power (besides what the solar system will give), you'll need to bring fuel for the generator * Off Grid defined : The term off-the-grid (OTG) can refer to living in a self-sufficient manner without reliance on one or more public utilities. Off-the-grid homes aim to achieve autonomy; they do not rely on one or more of municipal water supply, sewer, gas, electrical power grid, or similar utility services. There is an inside toilet and battery powered shower. Water is limited so the shower should be used sparingly and the toilet for liquids only.
-Location: On Mt Emily 20 miles from La Grande, 3 miles of gravel road.

NOTE: Pet friendly house and there is a $20 per night pet fee for up to 2 pets. We do not charge more than 4 nights pet fee for any rental.

** IMPORTANT ** 1) --> Water- we carry our water in. You'll have many containers to use during your stay. Showers are battery powered and manually heated . Be comfortable but please conserve.

** IMPORTANT ** 2) --> Solar power is limited according to the sun and clouds, you may have to conserve energy. Generator and fuel is supplied (in case).

** IMPORTANT ** 3) --> WINTER REQUIREMENTS- Once we have significant snowfall (normally in December and lasting until April), The last 1.5 miles to the cabin is traveled STRICTLY by hiking, snowshoes, ski or any tracked vehicle. You must have and display an Oregon Snow park pass to park at the Snow Park. As an option I can sometimes arrange to drop you off and pick you up from the snow park as long as we have made arrangements well in advance ($60 roundtrip for this service and you can leave your vehicle at my house in La Grande). At times I can offer to drive you and your gear in, in a tracked side by side. This is a $204 roundtrip charge.

Guest access
Fishing in a pond very close (3 minute drive). Mountain biking, hiking, nature watching all as soon as you step off the porch. The large cabin is all yours. If, on occasion we have another guest or my wife and I are in the other cabin, the fire pit and outhouse might be used by others.

Other things to note
NOTE: This is a pet friendly house and there is a $20 per night pet fee for up to 2 pets.

No smoking or vaping inside.

Please read EVERYTHING before you request to book. Especially from December to April due to winter access.

There is a deep cycle 12V solar powered system with USB ports. We have a TV and DVD/Blu-ray player and some books. There are two toilets, one is indoor and the other toilet is an outhouse pit toilet(no #2 in the in-cabin toilet, pee only). There is a fire pit out front, but please bring some wood or gather dead wood in the nearby forest floor as we do not provide wood for the fire-pit. (beware of fire laws, no campfires during extreme fire danger conditions). We provide all the wood for your heat inside.
