This newly-renovated and solar-powered historic schoolhouse overlooks our family's regenerative organic farm. The Schoolhouse is bright and open, with a modern-rustic feel. It is the perfect place to relax and enjoy a country setting with views of the Green Mountains in every direction.

The space

We've just finished renovating the Schoolhouse and are ready to begin welcoming guests. This 800 sq. ft. house is open and filled with natural light. It has vaulted ceilings, wood floors, concrete countertops, bright windows, and a large deck that looks out over the farm and the mountains to the west. Most nights, the sunset view from the deck is spectacular.

There are two queen beds in the house: one in a private downstairs bedroom, and one in an open loft bedroom. (The peak of the loft bedroom is just over 6 feet, so taller guests might be more comfortable in the downstairs bedroom.) There is also a full-size futon in the living area that can be made up to accommodate an additional two guests.

The house has wifi and a "Smart TV" (Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, streaming for your devices, etc.). There is no cable/live TV nor DVD. We also have small portable speakers so you can listen to music indoors and out.

****** The lawn has just been re-seeded after finishing extensive landscaping. It will green up quickly over the summer, but we don't want folks to be surprised by a hay-covered lawn in the meantime! ******

The Farm

The Schoolhouse is located on and above our family's 4th-generation farm. We use no chemicals (pesticides, herbicides, fertilizers, etc.) on the land. We practice regenerative agriculture—using our sheep, chickens, turkeys, bees, and perennial fruit and forage crops to make sure our farm's ecosystems and animals remain fed, protected, strong, and resilient. If you're interested in regenerative agriculture (aka carbon farming)—and if time allows—we'd be happy to give you a tour of our farm and practices. For a peek at the farm, you can check out @studiohillvt on Instagram.

Guest access

Guests will have access to the whole Schoolhouse and its surrounding yard. The yard has a fire pit and seating, as well as room for yard games. We can also direct you to some scenic trail walks (with views of the Green Mountains) throughout the farm.

The Schoolhouse is a private building with its own parking and driveway. It is a comfortable house with modern amenities, but we do want people to expect to hear the sights and sounds of a working farm. You'll occasionally hear tractors, sheep, chickens, turkeys, and a donkey in the distance.

Interaction with guests

We will meet you at the time of check-in, answer any questions you may have, and then be out of your hair. We live in a nearby house on the farm, and are available if you have any questions.

We had a wonderful stay at the Schoolhouse. The house is immaculate and Caroline has thought of every last detail to make you feel at home. She also very kindly showed us around the farm and explained about their regenerative practices, and even helped us when we encountered some unexpected car troubles! We would love to return in the future to explore the area further. Highly recommend!

If you are looking for a peaceful getaway, this place can't be beat. It's quiet, clean and beautiful. The house is bright and warm and super relaxing. You get a beautiful mountain view through the windows and there's no forgetting what a gorgeous place you're staying in. Sitting on the deck during a sunset is a special experience. We had a really nice stay and enjoyed the private space with our family. Caroline was a great host and it wasn't long before I heard back with any questions I had once our stay was underway. We love that the house is located midway between Bennington and the Manchester area for easy access to both, but is secluded and close by to some pretty great ice cream, a state park for swimming, and other local attractions. On top of that, it's on a farm that includes sheep! Doesn't get much better. If you love southern Vermont, you will love this place.

Caroline's place is a dream. Beautiful, cozy, and well-equipped with a great kitchen and living spaces. My group of four agreed: we all want to live here. The setting is perfect with the Green Mountains rising on all sides around you, and it's a short drive to tons of hikes and swimming spots. Hard to overstate how beautiful it was. Caroline was very easy to reach by text for checking-in and small questions. One morning she invited us to come see the running of the sheep to a new field to graze and answered all of our questions about raising sheep. It's pretty interesting to have the house set on an authentic working farm - but it's still very quiet! We had a great time and are already thinking of planning another trip.
