Clinton Hill is the typical Brooklyn neighborhood where Victorian Mansions and small townhouses mix with industrial factory loft buildings and artists' studios.
Neighbors are very friendly, don't be surprised if a stranger says "good morning" as you stroll by on your way to the subway.
There are plenty of good restaurants and bars in the area, Brooklyn has become a center for good food and entertainment.
We are minutes away of attractions such as BAM Opera and Theater, Barclays Center, the renown Brooklyn Flea, the Brooklyn Museum and the Botanic gardens. Our home is located near Fort Greene, Dumbo and Williamsburg.
Subways and buses are close by. It takes approximately 15 minutes from here to Downtown Manhattan.
Bike Share stations are all over the place, there is one just in front of the house.
Other Things to Note
Our cat's name is Elvis, he is a very gentle pet. You may choose to interact with him or he will also be happy if he is left alone.
This is a nonsmoking household (no exceptions) however smokers can step outside and smoke in the front yard. We offer a clean, quiet, warm and safe environment, help us in keeping it this way. There is a shoe off policy in most of the house. Although we are fabulous cooks, no meals are provided. Visitors other than registered guests are not permitted unless arranged in advanced.
unfortunately we didn't meet alex and lorelei. but we wrote some messages befor our arrival and that was everything allright.
during our stay the son (itai) was there. he was very welcome and helped us with everything we needed. the only thing was, that at the beginning it was very cold in our room. but after the first night the problem was solved.
shops and subway were very close to the house.
we definetely recommend a stay in this house.
Excelente experiencia. Lorelei y Alex son dos personas muy dispuestas a ayudar y están siempre a disposición. Hacen que la estadía sea más mejor. Muchas gracias por darnos un lugar en su casa!
We stayed at Alex an Lorelei for 3 nights. Their hospitality and generosity made us feel at home. Their house is very well situated, we discovered Brooklyn and Mahattan was easy to get to by bus or by Subway.
We had a great time.
Thank you !
Michel and Hélène
We enjoyed the stay at Lorelei&Alex house very much. They are friendly and helpful and we recommend using them if you are visiting New York. It's a nice area close to subway and buses.
Had a very pleasant 4 night stay in Clinton Hill with the more-than-welcoming Alex (Lorelei was away travelling). We had dinner together on the first evening which made me feel so welcome in their home as well as taking the itme to explain his work and give me a tour of his studio out back. Alex was so attentive and kind in recommending local eateries, cafes & sights to see around Brooklyn, such as the flea market. I would wholeheartedly recommend a stay with them if you want to be based in Brooklyn & the room itself is perfect for a creative to work from (I was using it to do some writing from in the daytime). It was a shame the record played in the photos was not in the room, as the collection of vinyl looked enticing for listening :( You could do a hell of a lot worse than to stay here, take it from me! Made for a lovely, comfortable and interesting stay.
My time spent in Alex and Lorelai's home was nothing but a delight. I was visiting New York for 5 days and I felt right at home, as if I lived there myself.
The atmosphere in this urban-suburban-like home was extremely welcoming and the morning chats over pots of tea were the perfect start to the day. The charming bedroom was warm and clean, with lots of space to hold belongings. Also, the designated bathroom nearby for guests was very handy.
The nearby store on Dekalb Ave had all the grocery essentials, and with Brooklyn's Saturday flea market and nearby popular pubs and restaurants, the surrounding area held the option to have a low key kind of day if you didn't want to venture into a busy New York City centre!
Although Lorelai wasn't in town during our visit, the accommodation my friend and I received from Alex was like that of two people! He gave us a basic knowledge into the working of the subway system which went a long way when it came to our navigation around the city.
He also suggested some great places to visit on top of our already to-go-to attractions! We also got a great insight of which museums/galleries to invest our money and time in which, coming from an Artist, benefitted us a lot as we chose MoMA- it went down a treat!
I would recommend this idyllic get up to anybody keen to exploring the New York area, whether they've been before or not.. It has everything you could wish for to make you feel like a true New Yorker and not so much a tourist!
Also, with such interesting characters under the roof and a cat called Elvis, it made the trip even more worth while!
Alex and Lorelei's home is an absolute gem in an up and coming Brooklyn neighborhood -- close to restaurants, cafes and the subway. Alex made sure we were checked in and was always a friendly, inviting presence. The room is very comfortable, more a suite with a couch and a TV for relaxing. Bottles of water in the room were a great touch. Their artistic touch is prevalent throughout the house and their demeanor.
My husband and I are considered by all of our friends to be amazing hosts. We are a mix of nationalities: Alex was born in Buenos Aires and I am a native New Yorker, we met in Jerusalem where we lived for a large portion of our lives. We work together as artists. We love our Brooklyn home and practically did all the work on it. Alex and I are devoted to art and to our community, we created a number of art murals around the neighborhood. Among our favorite activities: hanging out with people, cooking good and healthy meals, we are avid readers and enjoy quality cinema rather than TV. When looking back at past travelling experiences the most memorable ones are those in which we engaged with local people and became temporarily rooted in the place we visited. This is the feeling we would like to give you when staying at our home.
